Introduce yourself! - new thread for 2021!
Hi! I’m Carrie. I barely joined goodreads and found this group so I thought I’d try it out. I have a long list of classics that I’d like to read and am looking forward to reading alongside/with this group in the coming year. My current favorite classic is Pride and Prejudice and my 2021 reading goal is 36 books. I would like the majority of them to be classics, however I do like sprinkling in some other things here and there. Looking forward to a new year with great reads!
Hi, I’m Mary and I’ve been on and off again reading classics since I was around 13 years old. This year I want to read at least 12 classics along with my other historical fiction, YA, and books for school. My favorite classics that I’ve read are Jane Eyre, Anne of Green Gables, Frankenstein, and Pride and Prejudice. I also really enjoyed Julius Caesar by Shakespeare and I am hoping to read more of his works this year. I’m going to try and read Rebecca, more Jane Austen, as well as children’s classics that I haven’t read since I was younger so I can revisit them.
Hi everyone, My name is Ruth, 24, Belgian, and a French and English literature and linguistics student. I first came to this community in 2020 and ... probably didn't quite stick with my classics-reading resolutions. I remember I said I wanted to read some more Russian literature and I did in a sense, because I read some expatriate Russian authors: I read Lolita by Nabokov for my American literature class, and then I also read some short stories by Irène Némirovsky and Elsa Triolet (French-Russian authors). I also did a lot of background reading for these two authors. I am slightly obsessed :) I also think I said I wanted to read some more non-fiction (as in memoirs, autobiographies etc.). I did read the second volume in Simone de Beauvoir's series of memoirs (in French it's called La force de l'âge, it's really very interesting). I also finally got round to reading Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, which was an amazing experience. In short, lots and lots of great reading experiences in 2020! For 2021, I would like to read the third volume in Simone de Beauvoir's memoirs, I would also like to finally read Villette by Charlotte Bronte. The Birds Fall Down by Rebecca West is also very high up on my list, so if I can find a copy of that, I will definitely give it a go. And then I would also like to read The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers and Suite française by Irène Némirovsky. And then also some Daphne du Maurier and some Beryl Bainbridge, because I love their writing and am excited for more. I'm so happy this community will continue into 2021!
Hello I am Jane from Maryland USA. Working FT but found the group through Lucy's YOUTUBE channel and decided to join in order to motivate me to more classic reads. LOVE LOVE LOVE Tolstoy. Want to read Jane Austen and Dickens. Decided to start my new years challenge early though with Little Women and decided I am going to try my hand at poetry too which I have not read in a LONG time! Thanks for sharing about yourselves. It motivates me!!
Hi all, I'm Sue from Maryland. New to the group this year and don't have plan yet other than to read Anna Karenina and a few Jane Austen novels that have been on my list for too long now.Happy New Year everyone!
Hi, I'm Ashleigh! I'm a UK based English student, and plan to start an MA on the Victorian Gothic in 2022. I discovered how much I enjoy classics when I started my degree, and my favourite is Wuthering Heights. I really want to read more Jane Austen this year, as well as George Eliot. I'd love to boast that I've read Middlemarch by the end of 2021!
Hello Everyone and Happy New Year. I’m DJ from Kansas. No the “D” does not stand for Dorothy. At sometime in my life I should probably read The Wizard of Oz, but not sure 2021 is the year for it. I love John Steinbeck’s books. Pride & Prejudice, and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn are also contenders for my favorite classic. My 2021 reading list consists of primarily uplifting, happy, and humorous books. I plan to read books by Mark Twain and Shakespeare’s comedies. Certainly, I look forward to your suggestions.
Hello. I'm Luke, and I'm currently completing a degree in English Literature. I found out about the group in 2020 but didn't take part, something which I regretted. So 2021 is going to be the year I take part.Because of uni, classics have naturally become a part of my reading diet, though I do enjoy reading them for fun outside of academics. I dont tend to make lists; Im much more of a mood reader, though I am really keen to read Around The World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne and Far From The Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy. Both are books I started when I was younger, adored and then shelved for various reasons. Again, I don't know why I shelved them and this year I will be able to say I read them.
Happy new year everybody :)

Hi, i just found this group. I'm Anja, 19, from Slovenia and I lately started reading classics and fell absolutely in love. My favourite classic is either The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald or 1984 by George Orwell (more of a modern classic). For 2021 my main reading goal is to finish 50 books and I want at least 10 of them to be classics :)
I hope everyone will have a great new reading year and that you will reach all of your reading goals :) <3

Hi, my name is Lori. I love the classics, but I read lots of things. I think this year I will try to read a classic each month, so 12 for 2021.

Hello! I'm Constanze from Greece...I wanted to join the group so i can jump into deeper waters! I have read quite a few classics some were a hit and some not so much ( I'm looking at you Dostoevsky), so i just want to keep trying to find those little diamonds to me in the sea of classics. I am thinking starting with Rebecca.
Hey! I’m Elizabeth and I’m from the UK. I joined this challenge last year but ending up not actually reading that many classics as I retreated to my comfort reads in times of stress. I want to try again this year and my aim is to read 15 classics in total as well as some classics from outside of the UK. I have a blog post out tomorrow about my 2021 classics tbr and I’d really appreciate if anyone would read it (the link is in my bio). I’d love to make friends who are trying to read more classics so hit me up with a friends request, if you want 💖
Hi!I’m Elaine from London. I love reading but generally go for ‘light’ reads. I want to try and read more classics. Favourite is probably Pride and Prejudice.

This year I’m hoping to read 28 books and I’d like like at least 7 of those to be classics. I want to tackle a Charles Dickens novel (either Great Expectations or A Tale of Two Cities), The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, and Emma, among others. I loved North and South when I read it in high school and I’d love to explore more Elizabeth Gaskell titles as well.
Hi, I`m Julia, a high school student from Russia. I joined this community last year, but then I kind of forgot about it so I haven`t participated in any events. My goal this year is to be active here and take part in at least one buddy read.
Hi, I'm Marissa from New York and, like everyone here, I love reading classics! My favorite classics are anything by Jane Austen or The Brontë sisters. I'm also a big fan of Little Women, North and South, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and so many more! This year I'm hosting a year long readathon on my booktube channel where I plan to reread all of the Brontë sisters' novels. It's been quite a few years since I've read some of them, and it's about time for a reread. If you'd like to join please check out my announcement video for more info: https://youtu.be/Cv9nWH9e5NY

I also really enjoy Anthony Trollope, George Eliot, and Elizabeth Glaskell. I'm always up for buddy reads and recommendations!
Happy Reading!!
Hi all!I'm Heather and I am a 34 year old mum of 3 from Scotland. I also joined last year, but couldn't stick to the 'classicathon' as much as I intended to, due to 2020 being the year from hell. It just so happened that I started to lose my hearing and by August I was profoundly deaf, so I'm still struggling concentration wise, but trying my very best that I don't lose my love for reading. When I'm struggling I like to break the monotony up with graphic novels and recently found a love for manga; it doesn't help that I'm also a mood reader, so I'm really looking forward to tackling the classics again and my aim is to read at least a classic a month, whilst I'm still adapting... Hopefully I'll receive a Cochlear implant soon and I can get back to listening to my audiobooks...
Happy reading x

Hello all. I am Susan and live in Ohio USA. I am amusic teacher, wife and mom of a teen. Thanks to Victober and Lucy, I have fallen in love with classics again and expanded my TBR exponentially. My all time favorite classic is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I also love Persuasion by Jane Austen. I plan to begin the year with The Professor by Charlotte Bronte and then tackle Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I am buddy reading this one with a friend...one section per month through May. That book is pure genius :)
Hello, I'm Murph from the US. I have a fond love for the ancient Greeks and Romans, Homer, Euripides, Virgil, etc, but I am looking forward to reading more classic lit this year. In fact I'm reading Anthony Brigg's translation of Tolstoy's War & Peace now and loving every bit of it. I've never read Don Quixote either, so that is on the definite list for this year as well. I read a lot of genre fiction and history as well, so this challenge will be interspersed with my reading of others as well.
Hi, I'm Eli. Trying to re-ignite my passion for reading, and in recent years I've found I enjoy the classics and contemporary literature best. I'd really like to read some Dostoyevsky this year.
Hi, I'm Dan. I'm a huge reader ceaselessly striving to cover gaps in my reading experiences. After a youth spent poring over Faulkner, Conrad, and Dostoyevsky, I recently started reading "essential classics" which everyone but me seems to have read and enjoyed. I was pleasantly surprised by Anne of the Green Gables, The Age of Innocence, and Jane Eyre. I look forward to reading more. This looks like a comfortable place to see what I'm missing.

Hello, My name is Colleen and I am from the US. I am a former high school English teacher. Right now I am mostly caring for family, but joining different book groups has really helped me to keep my love of literature alive. I am planning on reading a lot of Anthony Trollope, Thomas Hardy, and Charles Dickens this year. My favorite classic is Middlemarch by my favorite author George Eliot, but I love Victorian literature in general.
Hi! I’m Ravni from London. A new year, a new passion. I have decided to get into classics this year, starting with Anna Karenina. If you haven’t read it yet, or fancy a re-read, join in!
Hello! I am Mary from Singapore! I have been actively reading what I love last year because working from home just gave me so much more time to read! Really want to keep up this reading habit :) The last time I actively read Classics was for Literature in High School so I am looking forward to falling back in love with it again! I am quite pumped for the year long Brönte Readathon hosted by Marissa! So I am beginning the year with Villette by Charlotte Brönte!

Hello I'm Gabrielle currently studying criminology in university. I have started to fall in love with classics this past year and it's been great! I couple all time favourites I have are Rebecca (Daphne du Maurier), A Christmas Carol (Dickens) and Anne of Green Gables (L.M. Montgomery). Right now I'm currently reading the Count of Monte Cristo (the unabridged version) and so far it's been so good!
Hi everyone, my name is Heather. I am originally from Scotland but now I live in the Netherlands. When I was in high school I loved reading classic books. However, due to my reading demands during my university degree, I stopped reading classics as often. A few of my favourites are:
Jane Eyre
A Christmas Carol
Tess of the D'Urbervilles
I am hoping this year to try and reread some of the classics that I already own as well as reading some of the Russian classics that I attempted in high school but struggled with.
I have already read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall this year which I loved, I received it as a Christmas present. I want to also read Agnes Grey this year.
I am looking forward to reading some classics this year. Today I started readingCrime and Punishment.
Hello!I'm a bit late, but my name is Caitlin, from the UK, not a student but a drop out. I however love playwrights, my 2021 goal is to read all of Shakespeare's play's.
Hello everyone! I know I am about 3 weeks late to the party, but I joined Goodreads at the beginning of the year at the suggestion of a friend. Earlier this week, I was browsing YouTube and came upon Lucy's page, which lead me here. :) My name is Alicia and I am from South Carolina USA. I have always loved to read, however, the last several years I had to slow down due to pursuing a career in accounting. 2020 was great in that I rediscovered my passion again for reading books, and actually have the time and energy to read them. I like to read a wide range of books from classics to horror to nonfiction to murder mystery to romance to historical fiction. I set my goal low compared to most of you, but I have not read 12 books in a given year since maybe 2014/15 so I thought that would be a good doable goal. I would like to read several books from my bookshelves- most notably The Secret Garden and the Anne of Green Gables series. I would also like to read a Dickens novel or two- A Tale of Two Cities comes to mind, and while I am reading nonfiction about the French Revolution also try to read Les Mis. I will probably pick up a book or two from the reading groups, so I think that will easily take me to the end of the year. Look forward to a few buddy reads and group discussions.
Hi everyone!! My name is Ana, I'm from Brazil! My favorite classic is WE by Yevgeny Zamyatin - It is a sci-fi novel.

Hi Janice I'm Lizzy, a fellow Canadian. Other than Pride and Prejudice were there any other classics you are specifically planning to read this year?
