Time was important, but I think she could have taken one of the men with her, however, that would have made the outcome much less dramatic.

This is a bit of a pattern with Kim. Didn't she do the same thing in the last book? It's not really procedure I wouldn't think and it could lead to tragedy but as Lynn mentioned it does bring a dramatic resolution to the ending.

I thought she should have taken one of the guys with her. I think they only needed one person to stay with Will Carter and Amy.

I keep forgetting that they don’t carry guns! Bryant probably could have handled both but he and Dawson have learned to do what Kim tells them to do.
I don’t see that she had many options. Kim had already learned from Syme’s profile that he’d enjoy hurting Charlie. She knew that he’d stay back and do that before going after Amy and she was right.
It was the best out of lousy options.

I agree that made that scene dramatic and intense. I was on the edge of my seat. I thought I missed something again and was wondering why Kim didn't have a gun!

I listen to the books so that scene was horrible to hear, especially as I couldn’t skim it. He was really hurting Kim.

Even reading some of the scenes in this particular book made me cringe. I'm interested how they do Symes' voice? Do they portray him as rough, uneducated? Is it the combination of the tone of his voice or what he is saying to get across how dangerous he is? And what sort of voice do they give Will?

The narrator is female and she concentrates on the character personalities, not taking that silly option of trying to sound male by lowering her voice. When it came to Symes, she made him sound confident, arrogant and fierce. You could hear his sneer and how he enjoyed that people underestimated him. She narrated him perfectly as I was scared of him and got that he was fearless. It was definitely tone but it was like she was wearing his skin.
Will came across as likable and harmless...until he wasn’t. When he made the decision to let Symes have the girls, he sounded like the decision didn’t bother him a bit.
The narrator is an outstanding storyteller. I love how she does Kim. I can almost see her impatience with people.

I find sometimes when I read a scene like that I have a way of filtering out some of the violence but listening is harder to do that. It seems like all of sudden I am paying more attention when I listen. lol I do have a kindle book for the next one but I think I will also listen to it since you recommend listening to it, Jonetta!
