It seems that both girls are quite strong, but they wouldn't have been if they weren't there together. They drew strength from each other.

They were so close and it gave them strength. They worked as a team. Hopefully they can do the same thing as they heal from this horrendous experience.
Maybe because I listened to the story my perceptions of these two are different. Charlie emerged as the one who kept the two of them hopeful, doing things to not have Amy sink into her anxiety. Elizabeth and Stephen both felt she’d benefit from having Charlie with her, knowing she’d take care of her.
Charlie had to come up with the plan to get Amy out of there, having to talk her into it because she couldn’t do it herself. It took some prodding but Amy finally did exactly what Charlie told her to do.
I was shocked that Will was also at that location. For some reason or another, I thought he was somewhere else. It shocked me when he began chasing Amy.
