I was a bit surprised why Inga went along with the plan at first. She didn't seem the type and nearly immediately sensed she'd made a mistake but by then it was too late. It wasn't till the third perpetrator was revealed at the end of the book and how she psychologically manipulated Inga it made more sense. Inga was way out of her depth from the beginning.
I thought she might go back to the house where she had once worked to confess to the family. My second thought was that when she knew she was going to die, that she might leave some kind of message for the family to help them find Amy. Since both of those things didn't happen, I guess I was giving her character too much credit.
I thought the only way Inga was going to get out of this alive was to turn herself into the police before Symes got ahold of her. Of course, since she knew who the third perpetrator was, going to the police was not an option. She had to get herself out of town and away from these people if she was going to survive.
I think deep down she saw Will and Symes’ flaws and lack of empathy. She got spooked, rightly so, and tried to save herself. She was so close to getting to the police and making it but tried to walk in on her own. Inga should have had them come to her. Yes, she knew Helen was on the inside but there were ways around this. She was doomed from the start and I was hoping she’d make it, despite her role in duping those girls into this dangerous enterprise.
