Susan (jazzescrapper) | 1590 comments How do you like the book and the series Leane?

message 16724: by Leane (new)

Leane I enjoy the story, not so much the romance parts of it.

message 16725: by Susan (new)

Susan (jazzescrapper) | 1590 comments I was always a mystery and romance reader until about 2 years ago my daughter left a book on my bed and it changed my whole reading perspective and I love fantasy and pretty much everything I can get my hands on. I'm always on the lookout for a good new series

message 16726: by Leane (new)

Leane I have been branching out some more. Until last year (or 2016) I had no idea what a cozy mystery was. Now I love them.

message 16727: by Leane (new)

Leane Anyone want to do :00 for 20?

message 16728: by Susan (new)

Susan (jazzescrapper) | 1590 comments Danica- one of my bingo squares is a book on magical realism and I looked up your book and it's listed magical realism. Is it good?

message 16729: by Danica (new)

Danica (lumosliterati) | 849 comments I can sprint at :00 for 20, Leane :)

message 16730: by Susan (new)

Susan (jazzescrapper) | 1590 comments I haven't hear of cozy mystery either what is it?

message 16731: by [deleted user] (new)

i can do that

message 16732: by Susan (new)

Susan (jazzescrapper) | 1590 comments that time is good by me

message 16733: by Danica (new)

Danica (lumosliterati) | 849 comments Susan - I’ve enjoyed reading it. Alice Hoffman’s writing style can get a bit too dreamy at times, though, so in the middle of the book I kinda got tired of her style mostly because there wasn’t much action going on in terms of plot. “Practical Magic” was just the right page length, whereas this one is a bit longer than I would’ve liked. “The Rules of Magic” is the prequel to “Practical Magic”, btw.

message 16734: by Leane (new)

Leane It's more lighthearted mysteries. There usually isn't a ton of blood and gore. Maybe considered PG13. There are a few other things that make it a "cozy". Usually the story takes place in a more small knit community setting and the detective is usually not in law enforcement. There's usually a craft or trade involved. For example: a story could take place in a small New England town where the local floral shop owner finds herself figuring out the clues to a recent murder in town. That kind of thing.

message 16743: by Leane (new)

Leane With the exception of a quick snack break, I'll be reading for awhile. NJ is buried under snow so I'm not going anywhere.

:30 for 20?

message 16744: by Danica (new)

Danica (lumosliterati) | 849 comments Leane - it’s only the first week of the year ;) technically I started my book in December but got into a reading slump, so I’m glad I finally got around to finishing it!
