Agent Sapphirus had returned to base after a hard mission and had just been debriefed when she got a notification on her phone. She checked it and was surprised, " The Avengers Initiative ? Oooookay... To Avengers Tower it is " she sighed and walked out of the base
Caledonia landed the quinjet on the outside of the base, at the tarmac as agents surrounded it. As soon as it was landed in it's spit, she unbuckled her seat belt and turned. "Ready? I swear I won't let anyone hurt you."
She let the jet open up, and led him out of the tarmac to greet a few agents. "I told them you're coming," she told Carl.
"Carl, this is one of our doctors, she'll just take a look sample when you're settled." She moved on. "These are our some of our surveillance, communications technicians, they have been told to keep an eye out for your creep." She moved along. "This is Commander Hill, she's our agency's second in command and one of my bosses."
The woman in question gave Carl a nod, her blue eyes scanning him, and she stepped back, and then jerked her head.
Caledonia took a step forward. "Ma'am?" She greeted quietly.
"Agent Hayden. You know he's a risk."
"I know. I'm keeping an eye on him, but you also know that was being chased by someone who may or may not have a connection to hydra. Carl seems harmless so far, and he'll always be monitored."
Hill nodded. "If anything goes wrong with him, it's on you."
"Understood, ma'am." She pulled back and towards Carl. "Do you need food?" She asked him. "Water? And after I'm going to ask you a few questions."

"Follow me." As she led him inside, she tucked her hands behind her back and stifled a sigh. She'd have to find time to get away from here at some other point. "So, tell me," she started casually, "do you have a favorite food?"
Oh gracious. "So what was this life like? You had absolutely nothing of your own free will? I'm intrigued, what was life on a daily basis like?"
She was genuinely horrified now. Kill him? Actually kill him? And the fear in his eyes was testament to the truth of his words, or at least to what he thought was the truth. What if he was just unsure?
Still, this place was bad, and this man in the park had been bad. She was lucky she'd had her hair pin on her when she did. She'd need to re-charge it or get a new one. Part of her felt guilty for speaking about his time in this place, but if SHIELD was going to help they needed all they could. "So it was mass experimentation," she mused. "And...I'm sorry. I really am, you didn't deserve that." She awkwardly patted his shoulder when he started crying, unsure what to do about emotion other than when someone was angry. When someone cried she was at a major loss. "They killed you and brought you back to life?"

"Hey. Hey." Caledonia felt like she was making a mess of everything but this needed to happen. She turned and paced both hands on his shoulders. "Okay. Is that why they were experimenting on you? To see why you couldn't die? Are you Inhuman?" A number. So she'd been right about what he was going to say earlier. "You're not a number. Your name is Carl if that's what you want it to be," she added firmly.
She nodded. "So what was your power? What is your power?" She asked him calmly. "And there are other kids? Okay. See, this helps. The more you tell us, the more information we have to raid the place and free all those kids. Which we will."
"Okay." She squeezed his shoulder. "I'm sorry. I am. That's wrong." She took a deep breath. "And now he's out looking for you again and it sounds to me like he somehow has a sense for some people with powers. He may come after us. You, and I guess now us. But he doesn't know where we are, I had our ship cloaked so with any luck he cannot find this location. Let's get you some food, thank you fir telling me this." A bit of guilt twisted inside her for manipulating him into telling her what she needed to hear, but it was a part of the job.
"Mm-hmm. Come on." She led him to the cafeteria as she typed furiously into one of her communication devices, sending all the information she could to the commander, director, and anyone else. She suggested they send a search team immediately, and beyond that, heighten base security and maybe even cloak the place.
She arched a dark brow. "I kinda figured. But that's what fascinates me...why would a leader go after one person gone missing unless you were vitally important to him? You need to stay hidden."
They entered the cafeteria, the smell of the food sometimes enough to make Caledonia's stomach rumble. "Here we are...stick with me, though, I have clearance to get a meal and you don't."

"So he won't die. Ugh, everyone and their idiotic dreams of immortality," she snapped. "Now, what do you want?"
"Okay." She took his arm and led him to a salad bar, and made sure he had a healthy serving of a chicken salad with tomatoes, lettuce, and dressing, and handed it to him.
"Salad. It's healthy." She was surprised he wasn't dead off the same food day in and day out. "Lettuce, chicken, tomatoes...just try it, if you don't like it, we have more options."
She sighed as she ate. She was glad he seemed to like it, but sickened because he had been viciously tortured and mistreated all his life with no opportunity to live even halfway normally.
She smiled a little. "Good, I'm glad you liked it. And here's a cookie." She handed him a wrapped chocolate chip cookie. "Unwrap the plastic and eat the cookie, it's sweet."
She took a deep breath. "Like a bedroom? It's not very decorated but it has a bed and lights. You can decorate it later if you stay."
"Here, let's go." She stood up and threw her trash away. "I know this is a little overwhelming, you good?"
She led him to a wing of the base where the agents who stayed here lived. Not many did, but she was one of them. She pulled open a door at the end of the hallway. "I was told you can have this one."
"You're welcome." She watched as he entered, leaning against the doorway with crossed arms, studying him in his fascination, almost child-like. It was just sad to her that someone could take kids and kidnap them, experiment on them, and never feel remorse. And that it happened in general, it never should have happened, never should happen again.
"I...I know. So...I gave someone all the information you told me. Is there anything else you can tell me to help us catch Carter?" She asked him.
"Thanks." She typed furiously on a pad and sent it off. "So. Did you...I'm sorry, I didn't get you pajamas..."
"I should have expected that question. They're clothes you sleep in. More... comfortable than those."
"Here, wait." Shw headed down the hall and unlocked her own door, grabbed something, and headed back. "It's...here. Sweatpants. They...should work. I'm older than you and these are baggy so they should fit. They're clean."
"Yeah. I overdo the sweatpants, I have too many." She did like to get one new pair of SHIELD sweatpants each year, they were just comfortable.
"Well, it looked like you could use some kindness," she stated quietly. Of course she did feel bad for him. And maybe she had been somewhat kind. But she'd also needed the answers from him and had used the favorite food question to start them off. So she felt a little manipulative right now, but half of her didn't care. It was her job. But the other half of her cared. And she did think that he needed kindness. "You're welcome. Is there anything else I can do?"
"Okay. Well I'm off duty for the next hour so...if you need me I'm going to be in my bunk. There should be a brush and toiletries in the attacked bathroom in your bunk."
"You're welcome. I'll see you soon...I'll come get you for dinner and you can try some other foods."
Inside her room, Caledonia washed her face at the sink and then dried it. With a sigh, she pulled out her laptop and started to work on the case of who this Carter was.
Using a picture of Carter she'd taken at the park, she used SHIELD tech to find him and place him on the index.
"How did you get here?" Maria Hill, who was overseeing something on the tarmac, immediately aimed a gun at him alongside other agents. "I have Intel on you. And we don't have time to discuss this."
All the agents immediately fired at him from all sides.
All the agents immediately fired at him from all sides.
She uttered a curse and yelled for backup, and more agents stopped what they were doing and everyone began firing at the clones.
Hill and the agents kept firing at the clones, and then a giant panther as more backup spilled out.
But a few clones dropped, too, their aim deadly.
Inside the base, an alarm started sounding. Caledonia switched on surveillance and gaped. Her stomach dropped as she caught sight of the fight on the tarmac.
She ran from her room, strapping on additional weapons, and ran down the hall. She knocked on the door of 27--Carl.
"Get up!" She screamed. "We have to leave, now!"
