Alan Hodge | 8 comments I made my novel 'A Death on the Somme' available as a free download on Amazon from Dec 1st. to 5th. and I asked people to write a review in return. As yet no one has written a review, either here or on Amazon. At least, no more than the 9 reviews that existed on here and the 3 on amazon.co.uk, prior to the free Kindle book offer.
What I have received is several emails from people offering to guarantee me lots of reviews - in return for a payment, of course.
I have no intention of paying people to review any of my books, but it is somewhat dispiriting that although quite a number of people did take advantage of the free download, they have not as yet written a review. It could be that they have not actually read the book yet, but it has made me wonder how many of the reviews you see on here and elsewhere are paid for.

Hi Alan, I did the same with my books - free for the first time from 7th to 11th Dec. I've had plenty of downloads but no new reviews. I too have received plenty of offers to review with money in mind. It seems that people are interested in my 'bucks' but not my books. However, paid-for feedback is false, I'd rather do without it. Good luck with your new book.

Alan Hodge | 8 comments Hi Gordon, I never started to write inorder to make money really, but as sure as Hell, I don't want to pay people to write a review of my books. It's sad but true that some authors will go down that route.
I think people need to appreciate that as a new author, it is very difficult to get any kind of foothold in this business. If you want to encourage new authors whose books you enjoy, do please leave a review. It's really not asking too much.

Darice Cairns | 2 comments Hello to you all,

I too am requesting a review of my book called, "The Art of Finding Truth..." It is very much appreciated.

Taken from a previous review... "It is a beautiful life story that weaves together a perfect blend of inner spiritual worth, history, love and life. An extraordinary novel with an enduring message about life, that will linger long after the final page."

Louise Bélanger | 43 comments Hi!

Always looking for new readers and reviews :)

Free with Kindle Unlimited. Your Words is my first book, a collection of poems and photographs.

Beautiful and inspiring poetry about different life subjects, about my relationship with God and how I turn to Him, especially during this pandemic. Other poems are just beautiful, some are for children. And the photographs complement the writing.

I invite you to look at the book trailer in the Videos section of my Author's page here on Goodreads.

Also until December 31, 2020, enter for a chance to win a copy, Kindle edition. As part of the Goodreads Giveaway, 100 copies are available.

Mark Mullane | 27 comments Dilemma for indie authors.....It’s hard to get reviews for a new book. If you don’t have reviews then nobody buys it, but if nobody buys it, how can you ever get reviews?

If you read Doodlebugs.....thank you in advance! If you enjoyed the story and would consider providing a review/rating on Amazon it would be greatly appreciated.

I just joined a few weeks ago and have not posted. I have seen reviewers here on GR (I'm a member 3 years) and on Amazon (where I was a Vine member between 2011 and early 2015, left when Amazon required my SSN to continue). There are plenty of readers who download whatever is free, if you want readers either do so one on one or charge a small fee on Amazon. I love to read but frankly, I'm really cautious not to over commit as I think most reviewers do. I won't befriend anyone on GR who I see consistently reviewing everything 5 stars (c'mon, that isn't possible) or who make it obvious they are all about helping the author regardless of quality (which I suspect an agreement is happening behind the scenes, one reviewer from UK named Sue seemed to convey this clearly without using those words). One woman on Amazon was duplicating the publisher's blurb and posting 10-15 reviews a day, she went by Harriet and the honest reviewers begged Amazon for more than a year to remove her (I don't remember if they did or not, I may have left before resolution?). My point is there has to be some accountability. If someone sends me a book, I do my best to review it quickly. If I can't I'll let them know why. When I finish an ARC, I then give it to someone asking them to leave a review (most promise but don't). I wish you success.

Woodrow Bell | 4 comments Aloha all! I have an ARC going on my brand new novel, Oneiros! The link and synopsis are below. It’s completely free to sign up and you get a free copy of my book in exchange for an unbiased review!

https://booksprout.co/arc/55348/oneiros

Would you be willing to lose your family to save the world?

In the near future, the Earth is on the verge of destruction. Major Asher Gray is at the end of his career and the government asks him to undertake one final secret mission. For thirty years, asteroids have pummeled the planet and the Military believes the rock strikes are an intentional attack and they want Asher to find the source before it is too late.

The catch is that Asher will have to spend years away from his family at the edge of the Solar System on the Oort Cloud Space Station. Further, Asher thinks the government is hiding something from him about his mission. Finally, before he departs his father hints at a dark family secret that could upend everything Asher’s entire reality.

The stakes are high: Asher must save the Earth, keep his family together, and find out what the government is really after. The only way to to accomplish his goals is to rush headlong into deep space and confront whatever is threatening everything he holds dear.

Book Review for Story of a Stolen Girl for award-winning author Pat Spencer by Kathy Woods, Editor North County Daily Star

Story of a Stolen Girl by Pat Spencer is definitely a best-selling novel. This fictional, but real story for what is happening at this time, is full of horror, love, and bravery. Darby was kidnapped, drugged, and trafficked to another country where she was enslaved like an animal.

Each chapter moved back and forth in time and location and in circumstances from daughter and mother as the investigation progressed each day through the help of the authorities.

Enslavement and fear engulfed them as Nina, Darby’s mom, searched for her daughter. Once she learned where her daughter was taken, thanks to the authorities, this mother risked her own life and willingly allowed herself to be kidnapped and trafficked to find her daughter.

“What would you do to rescue your child?”

I couldn’t put the book down until it was finished. I read it every minute I had available till the very end. Will she find her? Will she be rescued? Will they escape and make it home, ALIVE?

Thousands of boys and girls are taken every day. Some will never be found. Kidnapping and human trafficking is a billion-dollar business and the victims, if found, are scarred forever.

Story of a Stolen Girl is available on Amazon and online at Barnes & Noble. Learn more about human trafficking prevention and services to support survivors as well as more about this author at
Pat’s website at patspencer.net and on FB.

Thank you, Pat Spencer, for sharing your book. This MUST STOP! A must-read for ALL!
