Why Read Caste for a Feminist Book Club Launch?

For our inaugural book discussion beginning 2021, we will be reading "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents" by Isabel Wilkerson to better understand the history of America's racist past, why racism is America's unique form of a caste system, and how gender fits in to the system. This book will help us create a primer as a tool for our future discussions of the intersection of "race" and "gender." To understand sexism, misogyny, and patriarchy in America, we must first understand our history of racism, classism, and caste.
