What a fun read! This book won't win any literary awards, but it is clever and thought provoking nevertheless. I love the way the story begins, with Allen escaping from his nursing home by climbing out the window on his 100th birthday. A new adventure begins, but how will it compare to a lifetime of adventures that have taken Allen all over the world and into the orbits of the most famous people in history? For a man so disinterested in politics, he ends up in the middle of some of the most important, history-defining political moments in history. It was fascinating to follow how he is woven into these events as the 20th century unfolds; definitely reminded me of Forrest Gump. Another good fit for the international tag, as Allen travels from Sweden to France, China, Russia, USA, Iran, Indonesia, and many more places.

Yes, it is a fun read, and so is the second one, although it follows a much shorter time frame and not everyone likes both equally. Is it realistic? No, not entirely, but that is part of the fun.
