Andrew (andrewsweet) | 54 comments Good afternoon!

I run a meetup group of about 36 NextDoor members just outside of Seattle who meet using Microsoft Teams. We're currently undergoing a change, so I think we'd like to invite authors in about once a month to pitch a book and give us some thoughts about writing, etc.

Only a handful of members tend to attend any particular meeting. Please let me know if it would interest you to have a conversation with a few people about writing and promote your latest work!

Many regards,
Andrew Sweet
Author of: Models and Citizens

Robert Edmondson | 6 comments Andrew, I would be interested for sure but not sure my book qualifies for what your looking for. I just republished my novel by the way (with the new edits and proofreading!). It should be up and available by the end of this week. Peace
Rob

Hello Andrew, I am Microsoft alumni (retired) and live on the Puget Sound.
I would welcome a chance to meet with your team. In fact, my book SWARM was inspired by a true story of a program that escaped NSA labs and never recaptured.
The book deals with factual issues of AI, AI weapon development, cyber-security and other topics that will interest your team.

You can see a collection of the Amazon and non-Amazon reviews at: https://www.guymorrisbooks.com/critic...
You can find the book on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/SWARM-Artifici...

Hey, that's excellent. I can't wait to see the new edits! Great - let me present to the group - we're still in very much the planning phase.

Awesome, Guy! This group isn't 100% science fiction, but some of the die harders definitely are. I've seen your book and have been interested - once I'm back into the reading mode, it's on my list. I work hard scifi too at least for the Reality Gradient series:
Models and Citizens
Bodhi Rising
Libera, Goddess of Worlds

(that last one is really, really out there)

Still in planning, I will come back to this list after a chat with the group. Thanks!

It may interest you to know the story is not dystopic or sci-fi (perhaps a tad) but actually inspired by a true story about a program that escaped NSA labs, a 2016 Russian hack of a CIA tool kit, and and FBI visit to my home. In fact, my website provides links and support for most of the book claims on cyber-security, AI, AI weapons and prophecy. Reviewers have likened it to Dan Brown or Bourne. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Helen Gould (helenclairegould) | 130 comments If you don't mind a UK writer I'd be interested, especially when my next book The Zarduth Imperative: Discovery comes out. I write science fiction, fantasy and horror, or mainly one of these with elements of the others. My current novel is Floodtide (SFF) and I have 2 smaller books out, The Stallion (SFF/ecological fantasy) and She... (a collection with 2 short horror stories and a time travel novelette). I write as Helen Claire Gould.

I've seen your list of works - very intriguing! I'm sure we would benefit and given that we're just trying this out, not at all a problem about the UK. Markets are different, and that would bring a very interesting perspective with it. Thanks for expressing interest!

Not a problem per se. I think that the time zone might be interesting to work around now that I think about it, but do-able. Thanks for responding Gordon!

Helen Gould (helenclairegould) | 130 comments Well, I had been trying to run some writing and self-publishing Zoom workshops in the States, so if I need to get up or stay up, I'm sure I could manage that. I also have a friend who lives in New York State and we Skype every week, so I am familiar with working around the time zones. I haven't used Microsoft Teams, but I'm sure I could work around that. If you want to find out more about what I do, you could check out my online spoken word night, Fiction Fix Online, which is posted to my YouTube channel - here's the latest one from Sunday afternoon: https://youtu.be/Dkb6lY_vP5I.

Hi Maria! Welcome, and thank you for your message. Would something like I've described here be interesting to you as a reader? That is, meeting some of the authors you read, learning a bit about them and their process? Happy to take feedback!

Let me know if you're interested in having an old boomer sail into one of your meetups.

Ha ha! Absolutely, Douglas. Great to meet you. I'll be putting together a schedule and probably starting these after the holidays. If you (or anyone else) have additional ideas about the format, definitely share!

Toi Powell (toistori) | 4 comments Hello, I'm an author with 2 books under my belt lol and it's great to meet other authors! I just released my 2nd book this week on Amazon 'A King's Ransom' book 2 in my trilogy series. My 1st book is called 'Blood of a Queen' book 1. I'd love to be part of any meet ups or discussions.

Andrew,
I am, perhaps, a somewhat unique writer looking for opportunities to discuss my first novel, Overnight Deliver: A Hank Anderson Thriller, released in November in my pen name, Raymond Parish. My first thriller arrives after twenty some years as an author, and the release of four nonfiction books, in my chosen profession as a counseling professional. I would be greatly interested in discussing my novel with your group. I've included a link to my book on Amazon. The blurb will give you a sense of the first in the Hank series.

Thanks and best wishes in building your group project.

Hi Toi!

Great to meet you! There's more interest here than I expected (a fantastic thing!). I've got some organizing to do - but I think it'll be one "Meet the Author" thing a month (we normally critique each other's works about twice a month).

What a great concept (referring to your book).

Curious how you like Kindle Unlimited so far? I've heard that it can really help boost your circulation - I hope that's going well for you. Thank you for throwing your hat in the ring. It's encouraging that so many folks are interested. I will keep you posted as things move along.

Andrew (andrewsweet) | 54 comments Awesome! Thanks for the great responses. I've taken notes on everyone here who has said they would be willing to date. I'd like to close the thread for now since I think we've gotten most of the serious inquiries. I'll reach out individually as I get more organized around the idea - thanks!
