The le Carre quote about 'A Tale of Two Cities' being nothing but a thriller vexes me a little bit - it smells like sour grapes or rancid shoulder-chips. And it brought to mind the headl..."
Is that what le Carre meant to say? "nothing but a thriller"? In a context, as quoted by Bill, where he, if understood that correctly, objects to books being put into genre-drawers that would be quite bizarre.
