I read this book in 2016-2018 and remember it being fantasy and possibly sci-fi. The one plot point i remember is early in the narrative, a villain approaches the hero, and attacks him with a corrupting monster that threatens to take over his mind. I remember the villain talking about how the hero wont have to think or feel anymore, convincing him to let go.

Its funny, now i'm remembering it might have even been a graphic novel, i remember it used color a lot. Sadly the winter king does not ring a bell.

The hero was younger, and the book was more marketed towards teens. Sadly all i remember is that one scene because the antagonists speech about letting go, and not having to feel or think any more made a big impact on me.
