message 352: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31636 comments For Homonym:

If the dictionary shows the same pronunciation for words and the definition is distinct, I will allow it for the Homonym task. It needs to be shown as the same, because I am absolutely hopeless with what all the diacritical marks mean in the phonetic spelling! If it doesn't show in my dictionary, I may ask for links if not already provided.

In context. Though I think that one should always work, I always include that disclaimer for combo tags.

Sorry I missed this. Yes, that works.

In context, that will work. So basically as long as the precis and other tags don't contradict the enemies to lovers, it is good.

MountainKat | 31636 comments I finally got all caught up with the tracking!! 🤪

And guess what?! We have the potential for a public safety power outage again. 😡🤯 We literally still have snow on the ground from the storm after Christmas! No Red Flag Warning, no Fire Weather Watch, we don't even have a High Wind Warning or Watch! But we are supposed to get some wind so they are threatening to shut off our power yet again... 🤬

So, I might or might not be around much the next day or two. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hopefully it won't interfere with things, but just in case - remember not to edit your posts after the date ends!! If I am not around to post the end of date message, I will be using the date/time stamp to confirm the completion posts were made before the date ends.

I have started working on the qualifications for Date 5 and should be able to get them posted one way or the other tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, but you all read too many books this week! 😂

message 369: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31636 comments Thanks everyone! We avoided most of the winds, though it did seem iffy at times. I hope the weather treats everyone well!

Grace, we've been unusually warm too - it's just weird that the snow hasn't melted completely. It's just shady, not piled. The last two days have gotten rid of nearly all of it though - just in time for more to be forecast early in the week! This back and forth weather is so odd!

MountainKat | 31636 comments Date 5 - Tasks: Breakdown of the qualifications for possible tasks for Date 5.

Please remember that all tags/lists must qualify IN CONTEXT!! Links MUST be provided.

Don't make more work for yourself than necessary - if the qualifier is in the title or on the cover, use it! You don't have to go searching for tags to make it work. 😊 If the link you use for the book is the same you are using for the page count and edition - say so (see above edition or something similar)! That saves us all some steps. But please double check your links!

You may use separate editions of your Scavenger Hunt books to qualify for the different tasks. Links MUST be provided.

E is for Eat - Read a book set in the food/beverage industry, i.e. restaurant, bakery or bistro.

To qualify for this task, the title, series title, precis, tags or lists need to indicate that the book is set in the food/beverage industry. Settings such as restaurants, bakeries, bistros, bars, coffee shops, breweries or wineries will work. Occupations such as chef, baker, waiter/waitress, bartender, barista or restaurant owner will also work. For this task, farmers, ranchers, etc will not be accepted.

E is for Even - Read a book initially published in an even month and an even year.

To qualify, the initial publication date needs to be in an even month and an even year. For example, February 2018 would work, but January of 2020 would not. If there is an initial publication date listed on the editions page, use that. Otherwise I will will looking for the earliest dated English language edition for the qualification.

E is for Everlasting - Read a book featuring an established couple or mates.

To qualify for this task, the book needs to feature an established couple or mates. The couple needs to be together at the beginning of the book, not only at the end. The qualification for this task can come from the precis, tags or lists.

E is for Exterior - Read a book with the exterior of a building on the cover.

To qualify for this task, the cover needs to clearly show the exterior of a building.

message 372: by Laks (new)

Laks | 1953 comments Mountainkat... About the even number - Are you talking about earliest publication ( paperback or ebook) or earliest kindle publication?

message 373: by Laks (new)

Laks | 1953 comments And about mates - what about paranormal romances where some couple are "fated mates"? Even some normal romances have couple who are considered to be "fated mates"?

message 374: by Laks (last edited Jan 15, 2021 09:46PM) (new)

Laks | 1953 comments Again about Everlasting - will mention of "boyfriend ", " lover" or "husband" in tags or precis work?

About Eat - how about working as a cook of a house / ranch ? Will that work?

Sorry for the multiple questions, but Week E qualifications are really confusing!

message 375: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31636 comments Laks wrote: "Mountainkat... About the even number - Are you talking about earliest publication ( paperback or ebook) or earliest kindle publication?"

The qualification is the initial publication date regardless of format. If there is a date listed at the top of the editions page, use that one.

MountainKat | 31636 comments Laks wrote: "And about mates - what about paranormal romances where some couple are "fated mates"? Even some normal romances have couple who are considered to be "fated mates"?"

Mates are acceptable, but they need to be an established couple - they can't meet in the book.

'Boyfriend', 'lover' or 'husband' will work in context. (Though I would imagine husband should always work.) Something like 'book boyfriend' would not work.

Cook as a profession would work. A ranch worker would not though.

Hi Kat
For E is for Everlasting , would tags such as ‘childhood sweetheart’ , second chance love and rekindle work?

message 381: by D.G. (last edited Jan 16, 2021 06:45AM) (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments I was also wondering if second chance (ex boyfriends, ex-husbands, past lovers etc. would work). I imagine not because there's a second chance task in date 8 but wanted to confirm. :)

Or are you looking for books where the MCs are already a couple in page 1? Something like:
- a couple that has already gotten together in prior books like Jamie & Wes got together in Him (wouldn't work) but they are a couple and living together in Us (would work.)
- a couple that is already together (even if there aren't previous books about them) like in Love Her or Lose Her where the precis states "Rosie and Dominic Vega are the perfect couple: high school sweethearts, best friends, madly in love."

D.G. | 4477 comments More questions!
Sleepless in Manhattan (From Manhattan with Love, #1) by Sarah Morgan - are silhouettes enough for exterior?

What happens with books where the original pub date in GR has only the year? Allowed or not? Rupert of Hentzau by Anthony Hope only has 1898 as the pub year when you check all editions (yes, this is a book from my TBR!! :)

No, that could be interior or exterior. It needs to obviously be exterior.

MountainKat | 31636 comments Lea wrote: "For E is for Everlasting , would tags such as ‘childhood sweetheart’ , second chance love and rekindle work?"

'Childhood sweetheart' would work in context - for example, I'm married to my high school sweetheart. But a second chance romance is not what this task is about.

No to second chance romance. Yes, to your examples. Jamie and Wes in Him do not work, but in Us they do. Also yes, to your second example.

Silhouettes are enough as long as you can see the buildings.

For Even, I would need a month and a year for the book to qualify.

Use the date at the top of the editions page if there is one, in this case 12/1/2020. If there is no date there, you would use the earliest date regardless of format.

MountainKat | 31636 comments Date 6 - Tasks: Breakdown of the qualifications for possible tasks for Date 6.

Please remember that all tags/lists must qualify IN CONTEXT!! Links MUST be provided.

L is for Laconic - Read a book with a one word title.

To qualify for this task, the selected books need to have one word titles as listed on GR. Articles and subtitles are included in the title word count for this task.

L is for Lately - Read a book published within the last 6 months

To qualify for this task, the book needs to have been initially published on or after 7.23.2020. For this task, use the initial publication date. If there is a date listed at the top of the editions page - use that one. Otherwise, I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition regardless of format.
**Please note that I changed this from 3 to 6 months, because I am nice like that. 😊**

L is for Limerick - Read a humorous book in a series with at least 5 books.

To qualify for this task, the book needs to be humorous AND in a series with at least 5 books as listed on GR. To meet the HUMOROUS aspect of the task, the precis, tags or lists needs to indicate that the book is humorous. Tags such as 'funny', 'humor', 'humorous' or 'lol' will work. To meet the SERIES requirement of the task, the selected book needs to be in a series listed on GR with at least 5 books included in the series. In between books will count in the series total for this task. Not all books in the series need to have been released, but an unpublished book needs to have a title and an expected release date available for the series to qualify.

L is for Linguistic - Read a book released in two or more languages

To qualify, the selected books need to have been released in two or more languages. Please include the languages, i.e. English and Italian, and a link to the second language book in your completion posts.
