Mari Kaisel | 4 comments Read it definately on 21st century but problem is I read it in my native language so it might have been written earlier. The girl has inherited some books from her father and possibly a diary or something similar. Remember vaguely that the diary was, if stared into it, the key mean in escaping into other books. Escaping literally means that she disappeared from her own world and reappeared in the scenery of a classic (Jane Austen?) book.Naturally, there were some bad grey (?) guys involved who chase her and want to take away the diary and possibly hurt her.

Mari, around what year did you read this book and in which language?

Would you call this a mystery, suspense or thriller? Any romance? How old is the girl?

message 4: by Mari (new)

Mari Kaisel | 4 comments Nope its not the Breath of Eyre. Kris, I suppose I read it in around 2010ish in Estonian. I am quite certain though that the original language of the book was English. I would call it suspense if asked. The girl might be in her early 20ies or maybe late teens. No romance that i can remember. The surrounding is cityscape. Brightest memory about the plot is that the girl is running away from a couple of brutes who want the fathers diary. She locks herself into the fathers apartment and the brutes break down the door. She holds the diary (or maybe not diary but just a leatherbound notebook) and concentrates and ends up in a totally different environment. In the end of the book she plots a plan to hide herself into one of the books but the plan is not further elaborated... It seems that the author had clearly a sequence in mind.

Bobby (bobbyb-aka-plarry) | 37 comments Could this be one of the Thursday Next novels by Jasper Fforde? I have not read all of them so it might be a later one.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5522 comments It might be on this list - Book Jumping or Book Travelling

Mari Kaisel | 4 comments You know what, I think it is indeed one of the Thursday Next novels by Jasper FForde - namely I believe it is "Lost in a good book". Thanks a lot, Bobby, for the tip! Have forgotten all about the alternative history and that she was a detective - will see if I find it to re-read it!

Thanks, Kris, checked it out and that's it - will re-read it soon - I have a vague memory that I was not sure whether I liked it or not :)

Julie | 6 comments Doesn't sound like your book, but similar plot is YA Story Thieves series.

Mari, if Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde isn't your book, I'd suggest moving your request back to the "Unsolved" folder where more people will see it.

Moving back to Unsolved.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5522 comments I'm confused - in Message 9, Mari says, 'Thanks, Kris, checked it out and that's it' (referring to Lost in A Good Book by Jasper Fforde), which sounds like solved to me. Am I missing something?

The OP had put this in Possibly Solved, hence the confusion.
