Sofia (sofloaf) Did you like this series, or is it overhyped?

- What were your thoughts on the love triangle?
- Did the sequels get better or worse?
- Did you like Katniss as a character?

- What were your thoughts on the love triangle? It was good, but I wish Gale was cut out sooner!
- Did the sequels get better or worse? Catching Fire was just as good, Mockingjay was worse
- Did you like Katniss as a character? I liked her!

Cecilia Sorenson | 4 comments - I liked the series.
- Honestly, I was okay with the love triangle. The love triangle is an overused trope, but, you know, I think Suzanne Collins pulled it off.
- I'm not going to claim that Catching Fire was as good as the first one, but I really liked Mockingjay. It gets hated on a lot for being a "sad and bland wrap-up," but I don't think the Hunger Games should have ended any other way.
- Katniss...whoof. She's a flawed character for sure, and I understand why people like her, but personally I found her too manipulative and unfeeling.

Ayla (storiesandfolklore) -I did really like this series. A bit overhyped in my opinion though.
-The love triangle sucked in my opinion. Gale was a stubborn idiot and Peeta was a piece of cardboard, so there's that. Also, I don't ship Katniss with either of them. I'm Team Katniss/Team Neither. Those thoughts are probably why I don't like the love triangle very much.
-Sequels got worse. The Hunger Games was definitely the best, although Catching Fire was very close. Mockingjay went downhill with all the political business and it didn't have enough action in my opinion. Katniss was also more reckless and insecure which got repetitive and boring after a while.
-Katniss was fine. A bit flat, but she wasn't terrible. Not the worst protagonist either, but there are much better. AND IF ANYONE WANTS TO FIGHT ME, CLOVE IS BY FAR THE BEST CHARACTER. (and Rue, Rue was is amazing too.)

I did like it, it's been a really long time since I've read it, but the world building was great, and I loved the first book. The emotions in it were exquisite, wonderful!

- What were your thoughts on the love triangle?
I felt that the love triangle was just. Not a love triangle. I knew from the very beginning who she was going to end up with, and to keep gale there, for an extended amount of time for the romance, was just not good on his character. He's just the second male interest, nothing else.
- Did the sequels get better or worse?
Like I said, the world building was great, and I loved all the intricate details that they added, the way that the characters interacted. I felt that the first book was better, but I enjoyed all of them.
- Did you like Katniss as a character?
I adored her. I loved that cunning side of her, it was unique, at least at that time, for a character who wasn't all good and virtuous, who was flawed. Sometimes she could get a bit, um I not sure how to say this properly, but like you know where the main character is just a window into the world, like they don't have any personality except to show you what's going on? Yeah a bit like that. But I liked many parts of her.
