and would giving this link work?

Thank you!

Or are these not the kind of connections you're looking for Janice?

If you click on the masks picture, you get a better link: https://static01.nyt.com/images/2019/...
(I presume this is the collection item you are referring to.)
If you chose this picture as your interactive item, you can either use a site like Imgur or Photobucket to host the picture for you and then use the Image settings under "some html is ok", or use the link I posted above.
You get to decide what task you want to do. So if you chose "mask on cover", you certainly may. It may be hard to tell from the picture, so you may need to use the title in your justification.
Just remember that the cover rules apply. The mask must be on the edition you read and it must be prevalent (large). Does that answer your question?

Yes, that's it exactly, Peggy.
In the instructions, I said that if you are really stuck to find a collection item, you can use the picture that I post under #3 - Collections as your #4 - Interactive, but assign another task to it. You can also borrow from other members. So if Marie uses the mask picture, you could use it as well but make a completely different task. For instance, underneath the picture, it says, "19th-century wooden Bambara masks from Mali". You could do setting in 19th century, "Wood/wooden" in title, set in Mali, etc. Some of those masks look like African antelope or other animals. You could make an association with the animals being safari animals, and make your task with "safari" in the title, or the book is a safari theme.

it does thanks I have decided only to gopher my first 4 cards and see how i go. You have certainly outdone yourself this year

Hmmm... it sounds questionable. There is a task specific to African-American authors. Maybe it would be more suitable there. (Museum 5, About).

I answered this in the general discussion thread.

I think it's probably the exception to the rule that the first publication date is missing. I looked at your book and there are only 3 editions, all published in 2019. I would say it's save to say it was first published in 2019. I think we're going to have to evaluate each situation if it comes up again.

I went through them and found the pictures of the exteriors of each museum there. Could I use those pictures for creating interactive tasks? e.g. I found a picture showing sky with clouds - Could I use for a task like this - Read a book with clouds on the sky
Thanks.

For creating the interactive task for this museum, I went to the link:
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/15/ar...
There is a write up about the museum in between the pictures. Could interactive tasks be created with such write ups?
e.g. there is a reference about the visit of Pope John Paul II to the museum. Could I create task like this with such information? e.g.
Read a book with a Pope as a character or
Read a book with MPG - Religion or
Read a book featuring Crusades or Holy Land or Vatican

I just want to know if the following sample tasks using some of the pictures found in this museum would work? As I am not good at uploading pictures I have used the links of the pictures.
a. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/15/ar...
Dress maker/Designer MC in the book
b. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/15/ar...
Cosmetic products/perfume ( I do not know how to form this task in sentence - need help)
c. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/15/ar...
Something made of glass on cover
d. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/15/ar...
Sports related/ Golf link involved (again task formation problem - could there be two options in a single task?)
I only want to know if I am going the right way about the interactive tasks. I would be happy if any mistakes made in the tasks posted above as samples are pointed out to me. Also would love some guidance to help me to create better tasks.
Tips about things that should not be done in creating a task would be very helpful to me.
Thanks.

Sorry Viji, none of those links work :(
Also, not many people have created tasks before either, so just give it a go. There is no "better" task, promise.

Viji wrote: "Is it mandatory that each interactive task should be based on a picture?"
In answer to both of these Viji, Janice is pretty clear in the description of the tasks:
"Task: Your choice based on your selection from the collection "
That means not someone who visited the museum, not the building (although I know some museums count their architecture as an exhibit, but not the norm), not the sky outside the museum.
You need to pick an item within the collection of the museum (eg. The Mona Lisa at the Louvre), you link a picture of that item, and explain to Janice what your task is and why it ties into that item (eg. read a book with a woman in a black dress on the cover, as the Mona Lisa is wearing a black dress as you can see here...).
Hope that helps.

That certainly looks like a piece of art in the museum. As long as it is housed in the Museum of Black Civilizations, which is the museum for this task, then I would say it is fine to use it. Just create a task that relates to the item.

For the most part, no. There may be structures that are considered part of the collection - like the pyramid outside of the Louvre, the spider outside of Canada's National Art museum, etc that are acceptable. Japan's building is all glass and I have approved it. Use of the building would require a ruling.

Your links are broken. But in going to the website with the article, I think I can figure out what you're referring to.
a. https://static01.nyt.com/images/2019/...
"The Forest of Africa" by designer by Oumou Sy.
b. https://static01.nyt.com/images/2019/...
"Chroma Key" by Cuban Artist Benito
I think those are enough samples to answer your question. If those are the pictures, then the tasks you've designed are fitting and allowable.
re: c & d, I can't tell what picture you're looking at. If c is the building, no.
re: d - you may not give yourselves options to chose between. Pick one and go with it.

This thread was originally for museum 1, Museum of Black Civilizations, so I'm pretty sure that picture was for that museum. It's a really cool piece.

No, you don't need to make sure your task is unique. That's a make work project. It's just that if you are borrowing, you need to write a different task that the one you borrowed from. It's an effort to have you writing your own task.

Is this what you had in mind?

Yes, definitely.

Janice, thanks for the help. Could I please have some tips or help as to how to post links (without breaking)?
I clicked on the pictures in the link for Museum 1 and copied the links shown on the top (browser space) and posted them. But I find that they are not working. You have been kind enough to post two links from my list which work well.
What is the best way to get links that open and show the picture properly ?
Also, it would be a great help to me if somebody could post step-by-step instructions for downloading pictures from the Museum/Wikipedia links for posting in the group thread.
I did not know where to post this request and so I am posting this here. Pl. also let me know where do I post any such general requests pertaining to the Interactive Tasks?
Thanks.

Is this what you had in mind?

Welp. Thank you for proving Lexx right who said "I bet you get questions on that one as it'll be unclear". Bah lol
I was going along the wiki definition:
"A pattern is a regularity in the world, in human-made design, or in abstract ideas. As such, the elements of a pattern repeat in a predictable manner. A geometric pattern is a kind of pattern formed of geometric shapes and typically repeated like a wallpaper design."
I was looking at this list for inspo https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
Not all of them, but particularly look at Flatland, The Origin of the Species, The Stranger, The Museum of Modern Love, The Female Persuasion, and The Wrath and the Dawn.
So off this, Go is close, but I think you can do better. But I am interested in the book, thanks!

Please note that I have changed this thread to discuss interactive tasks since it seems to be the entire discussion. I've made a new thread to discuss Museum 1.
Use this thread to talk about interactive tasks - how to do them, how to find collections/exhibitions etc.
