One day some students will be saying the same thing about the literature today.

Great examples on how literature can influence and change the world for better or for worse.

It has happen to me before and it is healing as well too. Sometimes with some words of courage its all you need to keep reaching your goals.

I may not be a literature buff myself, but I can certainly appreciate how well you were able to articulate your very well put together and concise thoughts on the subject.
Eric wrote: "When I hear the word literature I think back to a time long ago. I think of poets such as Shakespeare or Edgar Allen Poe. I also think of a language that I could not comprehend. Though some of this..."Eric I would think the same way as you. Every time I would hear literature I kept thinking Romeo and Juliet and of all the past complicated stories to read about. Maybe we should of kept talking and writing like in that past era, we would sound way more intellectual.

That is a definitely a great reason to pick up a book. Thank you for that bit of information. Cheers.

I don’t agree with you Christina, for me literature does not represent language nor culture. Although it can represent tradition as well as history. You also mention “how it is a creative writing and thinking where you are able to express your feelings and thoughts towards what you are reading and also develop ideas from poems, stories, novels and books. You are able to interpret the author’s message and share your ideas and input your personal experience.” Which I disagree with that too although what you think about the writing is important as well for me literature has more to do with the author’s point of view on a topic and the message he is trying to get across through he’s writing. In literature you will learn new vocabulary and it is a way to keep yourself entertain although you are able to do that with any other kind of writing and be knowledgeable.

It is amazing how words can change your mood, weather if it makes you happy, sad or even laugh.

I totally agree with you Miguel, literature is a type of written material and I also see that it can be used to inform, persuade, or entertain the audience. I also agree and like your comment that “literature can also be used to express yourself,” which I do believe that is the main purpose of literature it gives the authors a chance to express themselves and their believes, emotions, experience, and their morals through their writing. You also but in there it was has to have a purpose doesn’t matter whether is positive or negative and I agree with that too I believe literature gives you a chance to judge and have some knowledge of what is going on in the world other than where you live in and it also reminds you of history events you weren’t there to live it but can get an idea what it was like. I also like your last comment “Literature has influence the world,” it is true thanks to literature people will read they got more knowledge of what is right from wrong and started to stand up for themselves which in some cases it has caused wars, but in others it has also cause good things to happen for example, woman suffrage, and the end of slavery.
Jesus wrote: "Literature is written work by people that want to express who they feel or tell a story. It can be fiction or non-fiction, poetry, true events that happened to them, or just ideas that they have in..."Hey Jesus, I agree with you that Literature means something different to everyone. Literature can mean many things.
Jaqueline wrote: "Literature is the act of putting thoughts and feelings into words in a way that appeals to an audience. It is successfully conveying what the average person thinks and feels. Literature is any work..."Jaqueline, I agree with you when you say literature allows us to view other peoples point of view and perspectives. I think its cool to be able to get an idea how things were back in the ancient times through literature.

Should it be published? Interesting. The snob in me wants to say yes, but we do have oral stories that were never published in its original form. It was published much later, and we consider it literature. It's an interesting point, Frank. One that makes you think. Good job.

Very good. Some people do find it hard to express themselves verbally, so writing is therapeutic. I always encourage journal writing when we can not express ourselves out loud.

Literature could be used as a way to express ourselves, a tool in which we can share our life experiences.

I agree with you Arlette, literature can be used as a form to influence a way of life. Like you mentioned the Bible is a very influential, and it is written in such a way that you need to read and understand.

It can represent culture but it's not necessarily the main idea here. I agree it is a course everyone should take to appreciate writing and understand writing.

The fact that you bring up dead languages is fascinating. I wonder what past works have been lost to the times or simply to the lack of knowledge.
Everyone Has Their Little SecretsHello, I am the author of Everyone Has Their Little Secrets, a coming of age, young adult book about a 13 yr old girl. For every action, for every choice, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Hey Christina, I totally agree with you! Reading in general can help us extend our vocabulary. But reading literature can help us learn things from the past and possibly make it easier to remember them!
