Leilin (leilinbooks) | 1787 comments Ok, working on this...

Thanks for the other Steven Carroll: if you happen to find any more authors of that name, let me know (might as well try to differentiate all of them while I'm at it)

Leilin (leilinbooks) | 1787 comments I'm just starting now with the series, but I cleaned up and updated all the novels.

Questions to other librarians:

1) what to do with "revised" works: should they be combined or left as entirely different novels, like, say, a retelling would be handle. Assuming the latter makes more sense, I left them separate and just included a note in the description saying it was a revised version of that same story.
See The Lovers' Room -> revised version of Momoko: A Novel of Betrayal
Or Twilight in Venice -> substantially re-written and abridged version of The Love Song of Lucy McBride

2) I'm still unclear as to how to handle author name transliteration. I tried to go about it like we do for pen names - I added both names on books when it was relevant, keeping the name used in the original work (English one, here) as the first. I marked the other name as "Transliteration" in term of "role" though not sure that's how it should be.

Suzi | 8661 comments part 1 - combine them, but Revised Edition in the edition field. Make sure the original title is in the field at the bottom, and possibly add that to the description in italics.

part 2 - Transliteration doesn't go in the role field, but you can add it to the bio information for the Transliterated author

Leilin (leilinbooks) | 1787 comments Ok, thanks!

For part 2 - what should I put (if anything) for the role, then?

I don't usually put anything. Other librarians may have other opinions about it but I'm not aware of a policy.

Arenda | 26447 comments An alternate spelling of the author doesn't need a role.

In the description of the author profile of the alternate spelling, a link to the default author profile can be added.

See for an example:
alternate French spelling: Alexandre Pouchkine
which has a link to default (English) profile: Alexander Pushkin

Leilin (leilinbooks) | 1787 comments Ok, I think I have it all.
So the new author profile is now Steven^^Carroll with 2 spaces (^=space).
Let me know if you see anything that I missed... hopefully it's all sorted out now!

(And I moved the other one you found to the 3-spaced profile: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...)

Thanks Suzi and Arenda: I edited the the profile of the alternative spelling author to link to the main profile as you suggested. I also combined the revised novels he wrote with the original versions: they are now part of the same work, but I left notes to explain which is what.

One last question though:

3) I found an ACE that has been created with the visual of the original book without its paper jacket: does that qualify as a valid ACE? (I wanted to check before I go ahead and merge it)

Sandra | 31455 comments We can't use Dymocks as a source as they are a bookseller. We can use the publisher HarperCollins though.

Leilin (leilinbooks) | 1787 comments No worries at all! And do feel free to keep updating this author using this thread, if you find anything else or next time he publishes a new work :)

As for that last book, I was using his Wikipedia page and they didn't have that last book listed on it yet, so I had totally missed it: added, now!

--> Sandra: actually, that's where I went to check that the cover was the same and for page count, etc.
