Day 1. Jan 1. 2021

Started the day and year with an impulse read - theekadal kudanjeduthu thirumadhuram - a malayalam novel based on the historic malayali poet Thunjathezhuthachan .
at 17 pages, its mesmerising . I know its too early to tell, still i am positive about this one.

Also plannning to atart Poetry Killer - Another malayalam book- crime thriller for my Snake and Ladder (SL) prompt 4 - comfort read
Started a couple of pages of " Dear Mrs. Bird " as a part of 52 books in 52 weeks BR with EmLo and Others

Day 2. Jan 2 2021
Completed my first book of the year
Dear Mrs. Bird Dear Mrs. Bird by A.J. Pearce
Wasn't as good as I expected, but it fulfilled 2 categories ..no. 4 comfort read in snake and ladders ,
Prompt 8- read a book whose title begins with D - of 52 books in 52 weeks .

Was a quick and easy read , though not very scintillating and not my usual kind.
I don't even remember how I came to add it to my TBR, but there it was when me and Em were in search for a book with title beginning with D , for our 52 week challenge .
The story of wartime England with most young men out fighting and women trying to do their bit in their own way . Emmy and Bunty are great friends sharing the same dwelling and Emmy wants to be a war correspondent but fate has other things in store . She becomes an assistant to a woman who answers moral or (otherwise) questions in a weekly magazine, loses a beau, gains another and finally ends up almost losing her friend and her job .

Will I reco this to anyone ?
Perhaps no.
It isn't that great a read , though quite decent .

My first abandonment .. so soon in the year !
The noteworthy is "Lincoln in the Bardo" by George Saunders.
It was a torture to read. I plodded on... But at 40 percent decided that life is too short to read what I hate .

This was for prompt 2 at position 7 of snake and ladder .

Day 9:
A slow reading year as of now with only one book conquered..
Blame me not , dear friends , blame my occupation and responsibilities.
How I wish I can run off and read in isolation whenever I feel like and return to home , family and work whenever I am sated.

Last couple of years, started with a heavy one which took months to finish - Emperor of all Maladies, and before that Bhyrappa for two preceeding years.

Last year i read in patches. Some months I gulp down 20+ books and in some was able to read 3-4 books. I have an inclination that this year will be no different. Hence am trying to gain as many books as possible before the dry season come.

Reading Shashawnk . At 40%. As of now it is just so-so. Failing to impress me. But I have heard only good things about it. So presuming better is yet to come

Title - Rita Hayworth and the Shashawnk redemption.

As part of 52 books in 52 weeks challenge along with EmLo, Greedini and HP.

Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption:Hope Springs Eternal Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption Hope Springs Eternal (Different Seasons, #1) by Stephen King

For 52 books in 52 weeks along with EMS
The prompt was book to series / movie

Em suggested 3 and I choose this. Emgree and HP too are reading this

Somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars , but not quite 4.
Had heard of this novella by King for quite some time now .
So when EmLo gave this as a choice among 3 for our buddy read of 52 books in 52 weeks I didn't hesitate to choose this over others.
Started eagerly and found it mildly boring, nevertheless quite exquisitely detailed .
Came to know a little about life in prison. Not that I didn't know how it would.be , but that I could feel as if I was there .
Was interested in the life events of the narrator and Andy . Felt very bad for Andy in his undeserved hapless situation .
And 8t was only at 90 percent of the book that I understood the significance of the title .
This book also made me contemplate about the way tiny events and ill luck shape our destiny. Further thoughts on this causes goosebumps and shivers .

Loved the slightly incomplete ending , for once . ( Usually I like neatly tied up endings )

Some day will surely watch the movie.

Emma A Modern Retelling (The Austen Project, #3) by Alexander McCall Smith

Started this yesterday as part of my snake and ladder challenge. it's by Alexander mccall Smith one of my favourite authors and I hope to like it. at 15% it's going good but guess it's too early to say.

Oh, you should. It's staple in the top-10 best movies of all time lists, I think you and Gautham will like it (although it is a bit slow).

Could complete 2 books this weekend. Both 3.5 star sort of
1. the wrong family by Tarryn Fisher which makes me realise binge reading psychothrillers is not a good idea. I will lose all my enjoyment.

2. Emma: a retelling . this one reiterates the fact that the original is always the best ( atleast 9 times out of 10)
This retelling was by one of my favourite authors, Alexander McCall Smith, yet it didn't give the Austen feel , and it also didn't feel like Smith, whose original works are much better.than this
