Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I'm going to start my Wyoming book. It's only worth setting. I'm tired of looking. I don't like James Patterson's newer stuff. My library doesn't have the one book Eloisa James published in 2013.

I'll keep an eye on what other people are reading and I see anything else I can get and want to read, I'll switch. But at least I'll have something started.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Mary: PBSR, have you ever read anything by Peter James?

message 153: by Gisela, Moderator (last edited Feb 08, 2015 06:21PM) (new)

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments How about Julie James?

message 154: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments Never heard of him.

I like to start a series in the beginning. So far all the author names I've come across that I would read don't seem to have a 1st in a series or stand alone that work for anything but name.

Does narrator count for name?

message 155: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Ryan also works as a name, Mary. Here is your "to-read" list of Ryan authors.

Let me check with the other Mods.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments Part of the problem is I am trying to find an audiobook. With school and work, audio is all I am having time for lately.

message 158: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Ah! Alright. Let me check my audios. I've got a ton. LOL!

message 159: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I was thinking of audiobook narrator James Langton.

I'm perusing my library's digital library content and I can't find anything that matches more than 1 category.

And really I am tired of looking. I've squandered my whole evening looking.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Other James authors:
P.D. James
Lorelei James
James Rollins - Map of Bones (is #2, but works as a stand-alone)

message 162: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I have looked at all those. I don't like spy/military type books. Not really into the erotica stuff anymore. Couldn't find a PD James book that I could get quickly that isn't in the middle of a series.

I'm not trying to be difficult. But I don't want to buy anything and I don't want to start in the middle of a series to match year.

message 163: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Yay! Mary, "James" as a narrator is acceptable. You thinking James Marsters?

message 164: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I just borrowed this from the library, I didn't like the first book in the series but I'll try this one. But my library only had the ebook and so it might take me all week to finish.

I haven't finished a non-school e or print book in weeks.

message 165: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Which book, Mary?

message 166: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments Oops, sorry:

The Newcomer (Thunder Point, #2) by Robyn Carr

message 167: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments You going to listen to it on audio, Mary? I was thinking of getting the audio CD from the library, or from audible.com - but I didn't want to use a credit, if I could help it.

I didn't like the first book much either...

message 169: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments My library doesn't have it on audio. I checked out the ebook. I have a break this week from schoolwork so I might be able to finish it. Audiobook will be easier because I really need to catch up on housework during this school break.

I didn't like the first one because it was a romance but then it took forever for the couple to actually meet.

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments I loved both #1 and #2. You shouldn't expect romance from it . It's more "small town life" than romance.

message 171: by Mary X (last edited Feb 09, 2015 08:19AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I was going to start my next Walt Longmire book because it's at least set in Wyoming. But I've decided to start something else on audio because it gives me BB in the Alphabet Bus challenge. It was first published in 2013 and might give cover points for having a road. I've asked in the Questions thread.

Buried in a Bog (County Cork, #1) by Sheila Connolly

eta: gets year and cover points so only 8 pts.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I just checked the spreadsheet and we are in last place.

message 173: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments My library has this ready to download and it's worth 11. I just borrowed it and I think I will switch. Probably won't boost us up much especially if we are the last to finish again. I have more time this week due to my classes being on break.

And Then She Fell (The Cynster Sisters Duo #1) by Stephanie Laurens

message 174: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Looks good to go, Mary. Glad you found something. Well, several somethings.

message 175: by Mary X (new)

Try to read the first book in that series whenever you can. I really love the characters and the story.

Kate (tulosai) | 49 comments Alright I am not the biggest Eloisa James fan but I'm going to suck it up and read her 2013 book

Once Upon a Tower (Fairy Tales, #5) by Eloisa James

should be 5 points for name and 6 for 2013. will keep an eye out for moon in the book.

Let me know ASAP if it being published in 2013 doesn't count and it has to be set in 2013 and i will switch

Sorry for my late start on this one. week has been crazy. will do my best to finish by Thurs.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments Hmm. Well the Walt Longmire books would have worked for Plot too. The books all have constant references and frequent flashback to Walt & Henry's days in Vietnam. So they work for the soldier/ex-soldier thing. But I'm sticking with the Stephanie Laurens book because I have a large chunk of it done.

message 187: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Yes, I thought the Walt Longmire books would work, from what I remember of that one. Sorry, Mary: PBSR.

Kate (tulosai) | 49 comments Once Upon a Tower

Rating: 1.5 stars, going to round up to 2 when officially rate on goodreads.

Oh Lord

So I am not the biggest Eloisa James fan, which I knew going in. Not even that could have braced me for this. I will say first, what saves this from a one star rating is that James has a very pleasant narrative style. Her books are quick and easy to read, and generally, even as you are cringing, you want to go on reading.

From almost the first moment though this book had problems. The hero's name is Gowan. There is really no coming back from that.

Really, the plot is unimaginably stupid. Edie, the heroine (yup, another name it's almost impossible to recover from) has the audacity to fake some orgasms. When Gowan finds out, he decides IT IS THE END OF THE WORLD. Oh the conflict! Oh the drama! Clearly having faked an orgasm or two means one can NEVER BE TRUSTED AGAIN.

I didn't even want these two to have a happy ending.

Name: James (5 pts)
Setting = 2013 publish date (6 pts)

11 points

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I'm almost done. I thought I'd finish last night but my arm was bothering me so much I just wanted to lay down and watch TV.

message 194: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments What's wrong with your arm, Mary: PBSR? You mean from holding the book?

message 195: by Mary X (last edited Feb 11, 2015 09:18AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I tore a ligament in my left arm while shoveling snow. I'm a lefty too which makes it difficult to do somethings. I keep aggravating it because it's my natural instinct to use my left hand automatically for pretty much everything.

They have me on prednisone but I haven't been on it long enough to get any relief yet. But I have noticed it's really affecting my attention span.

Catherine | 728 comments I finished last night...and then promptly fell asleep before I could come on and post! sorry about your arm Mary...I know what you mean about being frustrated! I have pain in my right arm someimes...it randomly fall asleep..(and contrary to popular belief..pins and needles don't alys tickle!) my right elbow and wrist bother me all the time...and i'm supposed to rest...but I have to use my hand constantly at work! :( hope yours feels better soon.

message 198: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 728 comments so...my book. The Kept by James Scott ..James Scott

Rate: 4 stars

Review: overall, I really liked the story. what I didn't like was that it opened kind of randomly, and never really caught up with itself. the story also kind of goes wandering randomly between the characters, and it gets a bit cinfusing as to which character is highlighted because there is no clear distinction. but I iked the time period...the author really brings you into the 1890's New York/ Pennsyvania...yoou feelike you're living in the period.

message 199: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I was reading that sometimes arm pain like that is actually a pinched never in your neck.

I don't have the pins & needles but I do have some numbness in my fingers which is why it being my left arm and me being lefty is making it worse.

But in my case the injury is actually in the left arm. I can fee where the tear is just pressing a certain spot on my bicep and I felt a tear there. Dr. agreed. But you may have a pinched nerve in your neck.

message 200: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments A couple of years ago I pinched a nerve in my lower back on the right side and the pain and numbness went right down my right leg into my foot. That was pretty much crippling for several days. Especially when I turned out to be allergic to the muscle relaxer.

I'm also allergic to ibuprofen. If I could have taken that right away, I might not have had to go to the Dr. It's an anti-inflammatory. But it gives me hives and aggravates asthma.
