Trisha (trishabisen) | 2389 comments This thread is to discuss Children of Dune, the third book in the Dune Series by Frank Herbert.

Pages: 609 pages

Length: 2 Months (December & January)

Participants: Ruthie, Sinisa, Luisa, Vivek.

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

Happy Buddy Reading!

Sinisa | 385 comments I have started this and I am at 10%.
To early to tell but so far it is good, setting up the plot works fine.
There was some mini TV series done by this and previous book I will be checking that out after I finish reading this.

Vivek Singh (wanderingsoul16) | 34 comments I have started reading this as well.

Sinisa | 385 comments I am around 60 %

There is a few things up to like 30% I didn't like (all that mysticism in particular), but later It was getting more interesting and good. In a part of book where I really like the plot.
(view spoiler)

Sinisa | 385 comments I finished and having mixed feelings about this one. Problem is it was good at times and really bad at other parts. It comes down to that that the list of things i didn't like is just too long to be anything more then 3 stars for me and even that might be generous. Definitely it is worst book from all 3 for me.

That TV show I was mentioning is called "Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune" and is basically a mini series of 3 episodes but every ep is like 80 min long. First ep is done entirely by book 2 "Dune Messiah" so if anyone want to watch that one it has no spoilers for this book. Ep 2 and 3 are by "Children of Dune" and I haven't finished those yet but so far it is interesting and has some interesting cast.

Vivek Singh (wanderingsoul16) | 34 comments I am at around the 70% mark and I am inclined to agree with you. The book is a drag to read. I think character development is the weakest link in an ambiguous plot.

Sinisa | 385 comments That part was like a low point for me but pass that 70 it gets a little bit better and ending was not complete disaster. Characters especially old ones are mascaraed. Everyone from previous books in this one is just more stupid. And when there is a potential for great new one (like that girl that helped Letto or freeman that helped Jessica or even Farad'n) story just kind of leads to dead end for no reason at all

Ruthie (ruthieram_reads) | 985 comments I started it and was bored. The library took it back before I could finish but I'll try to get it back.

This book is a mix, it has both worse and better moments from the beginning

Vivek Singh (wanderingsoul16) | 34 comments Agreed... the twins monologues are pretty tedious!!
