Question re Essential Oils: For spell-it-out do we have to spell the "oil" part as well, example: "tea tree oil" or is "tea tree" enough? Reva asked the same question about "find in text" so it makes sense that the same applies for spell-it-out. I just want to be sure.

I've just updates the nuts quest to be a find items potion eligible one. I also updated the rat tails one, however each delivery is separate and would require a new potion.
You don't need to spell out oil but you may if you wanted the exp for the additional books.
The bed requires 4 500 pg books and 4 books with trees on the cover. Does the orb of air reduce these to 3 each?

No, I'm keeping that one at 4 each. Your orb will reduce rat tails and acorn quest though. (I know the rat tails doesn't help much, but it will give you 3 off total).

Random question - Does a new game start each year? with new quests and rewards and stuff?
I know original idea was to reset game at the start of next year. Players, especially slower readers, weren't very keen on the idea. So it was discussed to just continue with the game and maybe reopen older quests for those that joined later.In the end I'm not really sure what's going to happen. Probably second, but don't hold me on it. Thinks tend to change here until last minute before posting. :)
You are welcome to join now no matter what happens. As far as I know, you can still use books you've read this year so you could solve few quests quickly :)

I'll probably cut off using books from previous years just to keep it reasonable to jump into the game.
Some of the newer quests offer higher xp per book. Or there may be something where low level players get more xp than higher level ones for a few quests to help people get going.
There will still be new quests and rewards all the time so don't worry about that :)

Okay that works great. I feel like I'm super behind and I wasn't sure if it was going to just all start over for 2016 or not.
I think it would be a great idea to open all previously expired quests to newcomers and for the mods to troll the other challenges for new players. Like all other club memberships...join now and play for free. -- the free being the expired quests and access to all their previous reads since January 1/15It's been kinda quiet around here. Maybe an invite to lapsed members who think its too hopeless to catch up might also bring back some people.

Or I might do what they did in World of Warcraft and Everquest and make a "Newbie" area for easy quests for new people to work on.
For the top 10 name list, If the name Jennifer is on the list, does the shortened Jenn count?
I was going a bit by Gladiator Games rules so Jenn would be ok if it was a nickname but not a separate name on the list and the same gender.

Those hydras require such crazy advanced planning that I don't know if I can veer off course....unless it were to give help for that!

I'm not sure I could participate. I suffer from "lack-of-reading-in-the-summer-and-autumn-month-ITIS". Last month I finished only 7 books. Yeah! Right now I can't imagine being an asset to any of the teams. It will get better in November and after Christmas.
My goals till the end of this year are:
get a house (almost there, only 1 book left) and (possibly) a bed and a lvl 1 blanket
get a puppy and train it to attack (+ 1 AP)
unlock pet plus potion
level up my magic staff to lvl 11
I'll leave attacking all of the big baddies for next year.

To make it clear, if I have a LVL 10 staff, a LVL 5 sword, both orbs, a horse and a damage potion, what would be my AP against Hydra-Pride?
a/ (10-5) + 2 (modifier for both weapons) + 3 (orb) + 1 (horse) + 3 (damage potion) = 14
or
b/ (10-5) + 3 (orb) + 1 (horse) + 3 (damage potion) = 12?

I agree. I think it will take me until next year to have everything in place just to START thinking about attacking the baddies. I definitely need a house, a TRAINED puppy, and a higher weapon first.
Is the "Greater Heal Potion" the same as a major healing potion? (i think I saw that in the Essential Oils Quest).

I felt so behind and the quests take so many books it was like, well this seems really fun but I can't complete much now, and by the time I did it would be expired and I hate to feel like I'm 'cheating'.

It's this game folder.
Each player has her/his own folder so you can set it up as you like. No rules about that (except, be nice ☺)
Do you need help starting up your game folder? I can open one for you if you don't know how. Just tell me what title you want since you won't be able to edit it then.

• The Hydra - Pride - This head reacts to a strong presence unfettered by weaker things close to it. Your attack power for this head will be based on highest weapon minus lowest weapon (e.g. staff at 9, sword at 5, attack power is 4).
I was thinking attack power of highest minus attack power of lowest. So it would be choice b where the modifier gets canceled. The point of this monster was people with the greater weapon differences would have the easier time.

They have some useful orbs that may help you get to where you want to be sooner.

"Don't worry! The quests you can jump into anytime. Not many quests require anything going into them. Plus we'll probably come out with some gift cards soon so you'll be able to use those to re-open any quests you want as well.
I'll look into something special for the new year but you won't lose anything by starting now :)

Kelly, can we use two enhance weapon potions in one battle, one for the staff and one for the sword? If not can we use 1 in 1 battle and second in another battle within the week (1 for sword, 1 for staff). How does the enhanced weapon potion work in hydra's battles. Can we count the +3 modifier against sloth, envy and pride?
I see all the chatter about the goals and I can't even remember the last time I've updated mine. Oh wait I think it was in July when my computer was acting up and started deleting some of my stuff so I gave up and by the time I started thinking it the GG came up and then I lost my way. I'm thinking tonight should be a good night to do some updating if the kiddies will leave me alone for a bit LOL Yeah that might be wishful thinking on my part. :)

For Jaberwocky sword & staff are zero so your attack comes from the add-ons.
1. complete alchemy for pet potion which doubles your animals
2. Have horse, puppy(Combat), cat, orbs, minor poison potion, damage potion, and now slingshot ( if it makes a difference).

You can check out message 167 on my thread for the attacks I made on dragons and Jabberwocky. All the hydra attacks are on page 1.
I also tried to plan at least 2 attacks to get the most out of the pet and damage/enhanced weapon potions.
Weekends are good because you can eat eggs on the Saturday at 1159 pm and then at 1201 am Sunday to speed up the recovery of HP.
