A Question regarding the Orb of Air. 1. Like the Baroque Horse, does it affect all quests of 4 items or more?
2. For example Death's Request, where would it work?
3. Does it affect quests not yet completed before the orb was obtained?
Teresa wrote: "I thought it worked like the find items potion and I. The same type of quests..."^^^That.^^^ I agree with Teresa.
It would be useful for obtaining salt and herbs for cooking but not for much else.
I just killed my first dragon. YAY!Lady Zuzana Attacks Great Green Dragon - 18 AP, 40 HP (sword has half effect, staff has + 2 AP bonus)
Lady Zuzana's pre-combat stats: LVL 7 || HP: 23/23 || Sword: LVL 0 || Magic Staff: LVL 9 (AP= 14 = 9 + 2 + 1 (horse) + 2 (staff bonus) || XP: 135

•Hero Attacks Dragon with Magic Staff (14 AP) => Dragon: 40-14= 26 HP
•Dragon Attacks Hero (18 AP) => Hero: 23-18= 5 HP
•Hero Drinks 1 Major Heal Potion => Hero: 5+15= 20 HP
•Hero Attacks Dragon with Magic Staff (14 AP) => Dragon: 26-14= 12 HP
•Dragon Attacks Hero (18 AP) => Hero: 20-18= 2 HP
•Hero Attacks Dragon with Magic Staff (14 AP) => Dragon: 12-14= Dead
•Hero: - 1 Major Heal Potion, + 30 XP + Orb of Earth (adds permanently 3 AP to hero's sword)
Lady Zuzana's post-combat stats: LVL 7 || HP: 2/23 || Sword: 0 (AP: 6) || Magic: 9 (AP: 12) || XP: 165
And now I have to do some healing. I'm just happy that I have all the books needed for Everybody lies quest ready in my tote. :D
Reva wrote: "I meant is the Orb a permanent -- not a One Time feature?"I think it's permanent like the other orbs. It would be nice to have more quests where we could use it though.
I'd like a verdict on the following needing one less book with the Orb of Air:✯. The Academy - History. Reward: 10 Experience and 1 Major Heal Potion
✯. Death's Requests
✓. Acquire 3 items to gain 3 experience. Done 6/5/2015
✓. Acquire 3 more items to gain an additional 4 experience. Done 6/5/2015
✓. Acquire 4 more items to gain an additional 5 experience. Done 1/6/2015
Acquire all items to recover Deaths Gratitude.
Death has offered you one wish to lower the starting hitpoints of a creature by 10.
✯. New Gang in TownReward 0 / 12 experience and 1 Heal potion
✯. The Academy - Literature Reward 0 / 10 Experience and 1 Major Heal Potion
✓. Spice Exchange - Repeatable QuestReward: 3 servings of salt for use in cooking.DONE 1/5/2015. 3 books vs 4?
✓. Picking Herbs - Repeatable Quest Reward 3 servings of herbs for use in cooking. 3 books vs 4?
MIDAS QUESTS: 3 books vs 4?
✯. Lady Teresa in Tights Reward 10 GOLD
✯. Sir Nancy of the Helen's Game of Choice REWARD 10 GOLD
✯. Lady Cait's Streak REWARD 10 GOLD
✯. Spring Cleaning Reward 0 / 5 EXP.

✯. Art Extravaganza Reward:(+2 exp for 2 books, +1 more experience for 3 books, +2 more experience for 4 books, +3 more experience for 5 books)
.
Well, Reva, like always you'll have to wait for Kelly. She has the final word. But I think (like Teresa) that you can use the Orb only for Find-item applicable quests. Because like Find Item Potion the Orb's description talks about "items". That would mean that from the list above you can use it only for:
Spice Exchange and Picking Herb but NOT retroactively - Only for the quests you finish after you obtained the Orb.
As for the Midas quests, I really don't know.
P.S. I asked Kelly about the June quests and you can use Find Item Potion for none of them.
Reva wrote: "That makes the orb rather useless, then."Yeah, I agree, but so is the Find Items Potion. Unfortunately.
EDIT: Unless like me you use the Potion for The Time of the Dead quest - it saves you 6 books which I think is pretty awesome. :)
Too bad. Kelly said there will be more (some new) quests where we can apply the Potion, so maybe next month.
I'm not holding my breath. LOLI think the Mods' biggest challenge is that the ultimate goal is going to get reached with a further 6 months to go.
Their task will be to come up with more challenging quests.
LOL! Talk about yourself, Reva! For me the Big Bad Dragon is enough of a challenge. It took me 5 and a half months to collect 135 XP (LVL 7). Now when I kill all the lesser dragons I'll reach LVL 8. If I continue to read books at the same pace (and I seriously doubt it, in summer and early autumn I usually read about only 8 books a month) then I'll end the year on LVL 9 (27 HP). I'll have to collect Heal Potions like crazy if I want to kill the big baddie in time.
P.S. Also look around, other people are way way behind you regarding weapons levels and XPs. I for one would be disapponted if the difficulty level rose to the level that the game ceased to be fun for people who read less.
I think that rather than making the quests more difficult it would be better if Kelly and Tea come up with some more challenging monster(s) to make sure the game is not boring for you once you kill the Novel Dragon.
Zuzana wrote: "LOL! Talk about yourself, Reva! For me the Big Bad Dragon is enough of a challenge. It took me 5 and a half months to collect 135 XP (LVL 7). Now when I kill all the lesser dragons I'll reach LVL..."
I have no doubts whatsoever that you could do it easily. It's exponential now. Killing the 4 lesser dragons nets you 120 exp pts and 3 very USEFUL ORBS. You'll level up faster and the boost to your attack and healing will really help.
That's not the case because the gaps between levels rise exponentially too. So even with all the gadgets I seriously doubt that I'll reach LVL 10 before Christmas (LVL 9 is much more realistic).EDIT: We agreed that the Orb of air is pretty much useless (for now), the other Orbs are great for fighting monsters - BUT there is a very limited number (only 7 altogether) of uncommon monsters and only a limited number of weekly appearing creatures. Because I don't do bribing (I decided quite early on that I wouldn't do that unless it's absolutely necessary) I won't be getting any significant XP boost from that.
Just to make sure I'm not whining about it. It's just that I believe that the game is still quite challenging for me even if it continues as it is. :)
LOL! And I totally trust Kelly and Tea that they will continue to keep this game fun for everybody involved. They have done such an excellent job so far. I've joined Goodreads 4 years ago and this game is by far the most detailed, most fun reading challenge I've ever participated in.
I agree. It has totally eclipsed my other reading challenges for 2015. If what I read here fits so be it but I'm not rushing out to read the other challenge books that quickly.
Thanks guys!I know when this started Kelly didn't plan to go further from Novel Dragon. But then we didn't expect someone like Reva :) We were already discussing where to go from there. We even got some great ideas from other heroes.
I agree it wouldn't be fair for slower readers to make quests more difficult, but at the same time we need those for higher level heroes.
If you have ideas or suggestions, feel free to share them. :)
Tea, I think that you had the right idea with all those companion creatures quests and even with the kitchen (which I so much whined about in the past). Those are the quests for fast readers, they bring them satisfaction of obtaining the companions or part of the house, they can brag about getting them in the tavern ;-) but in the end they don't bring them any significant advantage. They're more about the prestige. ;-) And slower readers don't lose much if they skip them in order to focus on more XP beneficial quests.
I'm back. Finally! Unlike Kelly, mine was business trip. She's the one having all the fun. With all time differences, I think she's also back home. Probably still sleeping :)
I'm not a massively prolific reader, but I kind of want to build the house and kitchen to have the future recipes available to pick and choose from. For someone who reads 1-2 books a week, there's HUGE gaps between levels once you get to level 5 and beyond, and one of the problems then is how to heal from battles a bit quicker than one book per hp. I really like the idea of being able to cook up some mouse meatballs.
Zee wrote: "I'm not a massively prolific reader, but I kind of want to build the house and kitchen to have the future recipes available to pick and choose from. For someone who reads 1-2 books a week, there's ..."Zee, kitchen is a great thing to have for fun but it's not profitable by any means. Not even the Meatballs.
Even if you ignore the initial cost (10 books for building the kitchen + 10 books for the baby falcon) and count only the production costs of making the meatballs here's what it comes down to:
Your falcon brings you 1 mouse meat a week. To cook the meatball you need salt --> To get it you need to finish the Spice Exchange quest - you get 3 Salts for 4 books (1 Salt = 1.33 books)
In a month (4 weeks) you can cook 4 meatballs for 5.33 books. Those 4 meatballs equal 12 health points.
In a caravan you can buy 2 Heal Potions for 10 gold (10 gold equals 4 books). Those 2 Heal Potions equal 20 health points.
So here you have meatballs: 12 health points for 5.33 books as opposed to the Heal Potions: 20 health points for 4 books.
Don't get me wrong I'll probably build the kitchen too, but only because it's a fun thing to have not because I think it's useful. because it's not.
Wow! So much math for this! You know, when we make quests, we (or at least me) don't even think about those things. Just trying to come up with something fun and maybe challenging.
And you're doing a great job with the quests, Tea, too. It's just that some quests are for fun and some are for profit. I'm fine with that. :)
❀Tea❀ wrote: "Wow! So much math for this! You know, when we make quests, we (or at least me) don't even think about those things. Just trying to come up with something fun and maybe challenging."Ha :P They think we plan things more than a few days in advance. Thus the whole find items potion issue. Although you never know when I'll go nuts and make them super useful.
Let's have the orb only work for find items eligible things.
Tea and I do have a few long term things in the works and I do have a plan for a future after the great novel dragon that shouldn't affect those who aren't there yet.
❀Tea❀ wrote: "Welcome back Kelly! Did you have fun? How was it?"It was fun. Crazy, but fun. We stayed in all different types of places so there were cabins with bugs out in the middle of a reserve but where you had a private beach and really nice resorts with towels made into animals and chocolates and a private hot springs tub. It was very interesting.
I never did get a response to this question:For the art extravaganza quest, after we choose the primary book, are all five othe books based on the alternate cover?
Or
Do we treat it like Rescuing Kitty? The alternate cover for book 1 becomes the primary for book two which then has an alternate cover to mate with book 3 etc
Reva wrote: "I never did get a response to this question:For the art extravaganza quest, after we choose the primary book, are all five othe books based on the alternate cover?

It's going to be a chain of books. So the first book's cover will match the second books cover. Then the second books alternative cover will match the third books cover. The third books alternative cover will match the forth books cover and so on.
Zuzana wrote: "Welcome back, Kelly! Sounds like you had fun. :D"Thanks :) Let me know if I missed any other questions. They're hard to catch when skimming on a phone.
Kelly, can you explain how the Minor Poison Potion works, please? I and Teresa think that it takes effect at the beginning of monster's every turn. Reva isn't so sure.
Minor Poison Potion - Poisons the monster causing 2 amount of additional damage at the beginning of the turn.Since the hero attacks first. I'd call a turn a hero attack plus a monster attack. So I'd do -2 hp for the hero attack. (essentially +2 attack damage for the hero, though it wouldn't be affected by weapon damage multipliers or reducers)
What I'm asking is whether the poison takes effect at the beginning of every turn or if it's a one time thing (like the cat's attack)?
