Gah - now I'm just curious as to what the May quests are going to be! What do I need the salt and nuts for?! =p

If anyone has any books they'd like to pre-order for me to read, let me know! I think I'm going to need another 8 gold in order to have enough gold to buy everything I want/need.
What is everyone thinking of getting? I'm likely going to get the kitten familiar and the hat unless the nuts and salt are super useful.
I'm poor. I'm just window shopping this time lol I want that kitten....some day I will have that kitten...I have yet to find a good balance between doing Midas quests and trying to keep up with regular ones :/

same here :)
Reva wrote: "Good. It will help to know how much salt to have on hand and how soon the squirrel will be needed."It's great to take these quotes out of context :)
Alex wrote: "Can we use the salt when we cook our rabbit and squirrel?"Sure you can. Add little horse in it too. It'll be tastier :)
Tia wrote: "If anyone has any books they'd like to pre-order for me to read, let me know! I think I'm going to need another 8 gold in order to have enough gold to buy everything I want/need."You can read and sell the books listed in the classifieds.
With 1/3 of the year gone, not sure if the hat is worth it
I'll probably have to sell some books to get some gold as well. I was so busy and forgot to work more on the midas quests.

I think it depends on if we'll be able to rollover our characters into next year. If that's the case, then the hat would be awesome! But I understand where you're coming from - as is, I'd be getting an extra +3 XP every month for eight months with the hat, which is only +24 XP for the year. Although, that's at least 2-3 large quests worth of XP (assuming most large quests offer about 10 XP) and will save me 15-20 books, so maybe it's worth it. I'll have to think on it.

We have plans for what happens after the Great Novel dragon and a few other world changing events :)
Lord Alex the Great shall live on!! Though it seems as if everyone has left me in the dust. *In frustration Lord Alex kicks a rat then walks back to his tankard*

Alex wrote: "Lord Alex the Great shall live on!! Though it seems as if everyone has left me in the dust. *In frustration Lord Alex kicks a rat then walks back to his tankard*"So read a bunch of books under 200 pages. You could do 2 Midas quests for the equivalent of your 900 page book -- probably faster. Do enough Midas quests and you could buy your horse or rabbit. I'll have one of each available for the next 2 or 3 Market Caravans at least.
It's alright to be in the dust, Alex. Better to be in the dust and reading books you WANT to read, then be ahead of the game because you sacrificed enjoying yourself to win a game that doesn't actually...you know, win you anything.
Besides, real life always beats challenges :) These will always be here when you come back to pick them up again.
I understand where Reva is coming from, however I enjoy completing the full quests. Lord Alex the Great may be a little irritated that his sword has grown a bit rusty, but unbeknownst to him I am reading more smaller books along with my fantasy giants so he should progress at a faster rate from here on out.
I hear ya. I'm the same. I'm still back on like March quests because I go for books I would want to read anyway as opposed to faster/shorter books. No complaints though, it's fun seeing where I can wiggle things around to fit them in.I haven't added on to my weapons in so long. It's a serious problem :/
Everyone can play the way they want to. That's the joy of single player :) They'll be plenty of things for people to do however they play.
Cait wrote: "I hear ya. I'm the same. I'm still back on like March quests because I go for books I would want to read anyway as opposed to faster/shorter books. No complaints though, it's fun seeing where I can..."There's some long series of books that are quite good. I've been slowly working my way through a lot of them and leveling up my staff that way.
I figure if a series makes it to 20 books it must be pretty decent :)
Oh and if it makes you all feel better I don't have my horse, rabbit or house yet :P So you can tell I'm not writing quests based on what I read.
I'm up to level 3 on my staff now but have been so busy trying to catch up on quests that I haven't messed with it at all since January. I've found cozy mysteries seem to be pretty good for it? They're usually relatively short and are long running.I'm down to my last few horse books! If I wasn't trying to do 18 other challenges at once that might be going faster lol
Ouch Cait. Thing is, I like and read everything big and small. But since I don't sleep much, I can hoover 3 or 4 romances in a night. But if a juicy Patterson or Woods, or Cornwell comes along I read those too.
They'll be some stuff coming in a few months that caters to both types of readers. I think it's neat that the challenge works for people who read a lot and those who don't.
Reva wrote: "Quick question Kelly:For Rabbit in the title, can it also be Hare or Bunny?"
Has to be rabbit. But it can also be in the series name (e.g. Alice in Zombieland)
When I wrote the quest I checked and there looked to be a decent mix of books with rabbit in title or series.

I get that. I wasn't implying you were doing it wrong.. I just think if you were to purposely skip reading something you actually really wanted to read just because it was longer or whatever, that the challenge kind of becomes... I don't know the word I'm looking for. Sad? More like a job than a hobby. ((....she says as she has 4 tabs open with excel spreadsheets tracking all of her challenges............))
I like that you can adjust how you play to fit your tastes, too, and that there are quests that match all the different playing styles. Even though I read quite a bit and tend to plow through quests rather quickly, I never feel like I'm reading something I don't want to just to fit a challenge. There are some books I likely wouldn't have picked out if it weren't for the quests (The Year of the Hare, The Summer of My German Soldier, etc.), but they were still ones that interested me when I read the synopsis. I would never pick up a whole slew of cozy mysteries, for example, just to level my staff because I don't like that genre. So it's not a matter of reading books you don't like just to fill a quest requirement, I don't think.

I have to admit, I'm holding on to some of the huge books I have in the hopes that they'll fit a challenge that requires a big book, haha. But with almost 400 books on my TBR list, I have plenty to choose from and won't feel too bad about letting those sit for a while longer. ;)
Again, wasn't accusing anybody of anything. My point was that it's okay to not be at the front of the pack as long as you're enjoying yourself. That was literally all I was attempting to say.
Cait wrote: "Again, wasn't accusing anybody of anything. My point was that it's okay to not be at the front of the pack as long as you're enjoying yourself. That was literally all I was attempting to say."Agreed. =)

So I wait until I can definitely absolutely put Book XYZ in Spot 123 before I read it.
My whole "enjoy yourself first" rule really gets in the way of my "finish ALL THE QUESTS" desperation lol
Cait wrote: "Again, wasn't accusing anybody of anything. My point was that it's okay to not be at the front of the pack as long as you're enjoying yourself. I've got my next 20 books planned out, and loads of them are books I've been wanting to clear off my list for a while, which feels like a massive bonus.

I get a huge sense of accomplishment just finishing ANY quest lol I imagine when I collect any of that big stuff I shall have to take myself out for dinner or something to celebrate.
Alex wrote: "Don't forget you can read the big book now and hold onto it to be used at a later date."Like Cait said, I like to make sure that book XYZ fits into 123 before I start reading, haha. Otherwise I end up forgetting to check my tote to see what books I have and end up reading another book for the quest requirement that the one I've already read would have fit. If I have them all lined up, I can just bulk order them from the library and fire down the list - much easier for me to keep track of, personally.

I'm with Tia on this. I never would have sought out The Year of the Hare intentionally. But it was a humourous and enjoyable read. I came across it only because of the quest. it reminded me of Bryson's A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail -- only Finnish.
I've read some doozies, too, haha. I know most people enjoy it, but I disliked Like Water for Chocolate, which I read to get my bunny. I don't see what the buzz was all about - it just seemed like another "girl meets boy, girl can't have boy, drama" book trying to disguise itself in the format of a cookbook and I really don't like cliche plot lines like that.
I love reading how people are tackling all these quests and have found some really good books just by looking to see what others have found to fit. I'm such a list oriented person that I love being able to plan out my next 10 books and know they will let me "cross off quests". If I don't have a plan I sit there staring at my TBR forever without being able to make a decision. However, if there's a book I remember I really wanted to read, or find something interesting at the library, I TOTALLY disregard my list and jump in. I have a twinge of guilt (totally irrational), but then remember that this is a GAME for FUN haha!
I haven't read a single book so far that doesn't fit in SOMEWHERE, which is the awesome thing about the staff/sword because books will also fit in there at some point.
