Thank you, that's what I was thinking too. Like it is now a "fresh book" if that makes sense. Just wanting to make sure that my brain isn't making up too wild of ideas hehe.

Tell No Tales**AHEM**
Queen Skye was the deadliest Queen in the entire world. She dividedeveryone in Novel Kingdom. But the sunshine she cared for the most was Moreau. Ser Rebecca wanted to be her night. It went never!
Hahaha that didn't quite work out as well as I had hoped.

I think it's pretty neat. :)

Yay!!!!
Also did I miss something, I can't find the Silkie? Is that the same as a kelpie?
Rebecca wrote: "Also did I miss something, I can't find the Silkie? Is that the same as a kelpie?"Oops! Thanks for catching that. Gonna edit it to Kelpie.
EDIT: Done! Thanks again. Confused it in my mind with Selkie and botched the spelling to boot.
It’s amusing how the last two big baddies, The Great Sapphire Dragon and Wendigo, are complete opposites. Against the dragon, pets are useless—you have to rely solely on weapons and spells, without the usual bonuses pets provide. On the other hand, when facing Wendigo, the hero is utterly powerless, depending entirely on pets and companions to defeat the monster and save the day.If you're looking for tips on beating Wendigo, focus on maximizing your pets' power and consider hiring Radagast for his invaluable bonus!
I can't believe I missed an entire Halloween event! Is this something that is closed, or can the monsters still be attacked?"Halloween 2017 - "And so it begins...""
Alsooooo is book glue a "consumable?" (I'm thinking re: the magic pumpkin drops). I need to make some 1000 page books hahaha
- halloween event is open til you complete it, rebecca- book glue is a quest item - not-consumable, so don't eat it ;-)
Zuzana wrote: "- halloween event is open til you complete it, rebecca- book glue is a quest item - not-consumable, so don't eat it ;-)"
Soooo I work in a lab and to me "consumable" means supplies hahahahaha so edible did not even enter my brain WHOOPS.
Also I've been searching, but what is the damage of the Greater Poison Potion and does it happen at the start of monster's every attack turn? Or is it just once in the battle?
it works the same as the minor poison potion, but it's more powerful -10 AP.it was introduced in the haloween event and is very rare. can't be bought, only won in some battles or in quests.
So I'm doing a test of a magic attack to make sure I understand all the nuances, can you see if this make sense with the info I included:(view spoiler)
It's been a very long while since playing, but I'm updating my topic. I had HP 20/20 and have now completed a healing quest where the reward is 5XP. Does that make my HP 25/20 or 25/25? Sorry in advance if it's a 'stupid' question ;)
I'm prepping for a lot of attacks tomorrow! Did I miss the explanation about the Magic Book from the Rare Binding?
Saar, HP is health, you can't exceed the maximum. When you level up by reaching the next experience threshold you heal up to the new max that is +2 health points to the previous max. Sadly you need to reach 30 xp to level up next.No questions are stupid, Saar. :-)
These are the numbers
Total experience needed - maximum health.
LVL 1 - 0 XP - max HP 10
LVL 2 - 5 XP - max HP 12
LVL 3 - 15 XP - max HP 14
LVL 4 - 30 XP - max HP 16
LVL 5 - 45 XP - max HP 18
LVL 6 - 90 XP - max HP 20
LVL 7 - 135 XP - max HP 22
Thanks, Zuzana. I ment XP. I've got it wrong. So, if I understand correctly:I've received 5 XP as a reward and I'm lvl 6 currently. Adding that, it would be lvl 6 and 95 XP?
Rebecca wrote: "I'm prepping for a lot of attacks tomorrow! Did I miss the explanation about the Magic Book from the Rare Binding?"There are 3 Magik books in the game. They have no purpose, but there are plans to use them in a future quest , Rebecca.
You haven't killed the Rare Binding yet, Rebecca? It's been around for ages and ages. If you let it terrorize the kingdom for so long, you should remedy that mistake asap. *winks*

Right?! I don't know how I've been evading it, but I am ready to tackle it tomorrow!

Depends on how many experience points you had before. You haven't said.
If you started at 90, then it should be 95 XP. That doesn't affect your health at all. To level up to lvl 7 (HP 22) you need to reach 135 XP.
Saar, there's a wider gap between levels the higher you climb. It gives you time to focus more on completing quests and plotting how to kill the big baddies. :-)
Also it is just occurring to me that "weak to fire" means that a firebolt would double it's attack? Somehow my brain missed that.
Rebecca wrote: "Also it is just occurring to me that "weak to fire" means that a firebolt would double it's attack? Somehow my brain missed that."Yes, its base attack power doubles.
Rebecca wrote: "Right?! I don't know how I've been evading it, but I am ready to tackle it tomorrow!"Good luck, Rebecca! :)
Back to the "weak to X magik, strong to X magik". These bonuses/maluses are important when battling magical monsters like kelpies as you can't use sword and staff, only spells (and pets).
Saar The Book owl wrote: "Thanks, Zuzana, it makes sense now :)"You're welcome, Saar. There's so many reading quests, if you're looking for specific rewards, just ask here. Might be way faster than going through the quest thread.
Just a reminder.Today is 21st December and the Abominable Snowmen have descended upon the Kingdom! You have 3 months to defeat them - before they melt under the first rays of spring sunshine.
Good luck!
Question re: “fresh” books— Would using a book cover or book glue to combine 2 books make the resulting book “fresh”?
Ray (user2637) wrote: "Question re: “fresh” books— Would using a book cover or book glue to combine 2 books make the resulting book “fresh”?"Yup, Ray. The day you glue them together or magicaly combine them by using the Book Cover is the new "read" day.
Just a reminder: Book Cover magic works only on the series number, if you need to boost page number you need the Book Glue.
Ray, The Orb of Air and the Find Item Potion work exclusively on items, unless explicitly stated otherwise in the quest description. They cannot be used for books! For instance, if a quest requires 4 Goblin Bones, the Orb reduces the requirement to 3. However, these tools won’t substitute a book in a quest—that’s what Duplication Potions and Santa Coupons are for.
Exceptions to these rules are specified in the quest description.
Ye Olde FAQ covered it in 2021.
EDIT: I stand corrected. The post in Ye Olde FAQ does address only the Find Item Potion.
However, from the very beginning, the rules for the Orb of Air and the Find Item Potion have been the same: they apply to the same types of quests. As per Kelly's ruling, both these tools were always intended to be used exclusively for items (like Bones, Rat Tails, etc.) unless explicitly stated otherwise, such as in the bug quest.
I don’t blame anyone for getting confused about the Orb of Air and Find Item Potions—these items have been controversial since day one. Personally, I find them pretty useless, with so many uncertainties and variables that I avoid using them entirely.
It might be a good idea to re-codify the rules for their use to clear up the confusion.

Sweeeeeeet
Hi, Ray! Hi, fellow adventurers!I'm busy with Christmas eve preparations, so it's back to kitchen for me. :)
Happy Holidays, everyone!
A sneak peek of the January update is now available on the Notice Board! All changes will officially go live on January 1st.The goblins have finally gotten clever and are now keeping a safe distance from seasoned heroes. They’ll no longer attack anyone at level 11 or higher. But fear not! If you’re still in need of Goblin Bones for your quests, you can now obtain them by defeating a new common monster that has taken up residence in the Kingdom: the Goblin Guard. Tougher and craftier than its dim-witted cousins, these foes might just inspire you to consider upgrading your trusty weapons to take them down with greater ease.
Magical creatures continue their relentless invasion of the realm, and this time we’re dealing with an air-based menace: the Splintercat. This elusive creature appears every two weeks, but you’ll need to lure it out by carefully placing Drop Bear Meat at strategic spots in the northern woods beyond the castle. Additionally, the rules for battling Magical Monsters have been revised for better clarity—so brush up before you take on this soaring threat!
!!! Rule Clarification !!!
Magical Monsters are completely immune to attacks from all physical weapons. This was always the intention, but the previous wording mistakenly suggested that only swords and magical staves were off-limits. To clarify, this immunity extends to all physical weapons, including Spock’s Plasma Weapon, Arrows, Slingshots, and any other non-magical tools of attack.
There are more updates ready: 3 new quests, a thrilling addition to Jack and Jill's Caravan Hill and a new spell for our heroes to learn. These will be published January 1st.
Rebecca wrote: "So I'm doing a test of a magic attack to make sure I understand all the nuances, can you see if this make sense with the info I included:ATTACK – Kelpie
Hero: 4 HP, Whirlwind- Base Attack 10 + 1 Magik Shard +2 Horse (PPP) +4 Puppy (PPP) = 17 AP
Pain Giant: 10-3=7 Attack, 30 Health
Shield and Pet Rock
Activated: 1 Pet plus potion
Take 1 minor heal potion ==>Hero 14HP
Cat + Lucky 13 collar ==> Kelpie 24 HP
Hero attacks Kelpie (17 attack) ==> Kelpie 7 HP left
Kelpie attacks Hero (7 attack) ==> Hero 7 HP left
Hero attacks Kelpie (17 attack) ==> Kelpie DEAD
Hero: 7 HP + 2 pet rock + 1 orb of air = 10 HP
Used: 2 Carrot + 2 Snap Pea for Air spell, 1 minor heal potion"
Rebecca, I'm so sorry I missed an error in your battle. Your attack power is HIGHER, because you used air spells and Kelpies are weak to air magik.
So your attack should be:
Whirlwind - 10 AP + 1 (shard) = 11 AP - weak to Air doubles the base value --> 2x11= 22 AP
22 + 2 Horse (PPP) +4 Puppy (PPP)= 28 AP
1st round of battle: 28 + 6 Cat (Lucky collar + PPP)= 34 AP
So with Pet Plus Potion you should have one-shot the Kelpie. I'm really sorry I missed that.
Without PPP, your 1st hit will be 22 + 1 Horse + 2 Puppy + 3 Cat = 28 AP. So you'll still need two shots to kill it.
Wow, these quests for books with 4.5+ rating and a bunch of reviews are HARD! I’m not gonna read LotR or Harry Potter, so this is definitely a challenge.
Ray (user2637) wrote: "Wow, these quests for books with 4.5+ rating and a bunch of reviews are HARD! I’m not gonna read LotR or Harry Potter, so this is definitely a challenge."Yup, Lyssa made it really hard.
Hi everyone! I hope you all had a really lovely holiday seasons. Fairly quiet for me, but still busy enough that I'm behind on my reading.
Quest question! For Teach a Knight to Fish Part 2: Fish!
“Find 3 of the following words in one or more books. (Multiple words may be found per book, books may not be used for anything else. Word must be exact, plurals are accepted but no other versions.)
Fish, Reel, Rod, Bait, Bite, Lure, Tackle, Cast”
Do we need to find 3 different words?
Megs wrote: "Hi everyone! I hope you all had a really lovely holiday seasons. Fairly quiet for me, but still busy enough that I'm behind on my reading."Hi, Megs! Happy New Year and happy reading!
Here are my questions and suggestions for the Should I Know This? quest: 1. It would be incredibly helpful to have clear, written rules regarding the use of the Orb of Air and the Find Item Potion. These items have caused quite a bit of confusion, and while it’s been stated that they work only on items and not books, it would be great to have this officially documented somewhere for everyone to reference.
2. A detailed breakdown of how your hero’s attack power is calculated—factoring in bonuses, pets, gems, and gadgets—would be invaluable. Additionally, an explanation of the differences between attacks with physical weapons (like the staff and sword) versus spells (since some bonuses don’t apply to magik) would provide much-needed clarity.
3. Many rare monsters, as well as some magical and uncommon ones, involve modified battle mechanics. Having an example "template" battle to illustrate these mechanics would be a fantastic resource to help adventurers better understand and prepare for these encounters.
I'm claiming my reward of 3 XP and 3 Gold. I can repeat the quest no sooner than April, 1st.
