Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments I had this in there "Casting the spell will use up the casting materials."

Would modifying it to: "Casting the spell will use up the casting materials. Each spell cast will require it's own set of materials." help to clarify?

Nancy (nancyland) | 387 comments For the garden - how at sea does a book need to be set for it to count? For example if they go on a bunch of scuba diving trips in search of treasure, is that good? Or does it have to be complete set at sea like a story about mermaids, or sailors?

Thanks :)

Don't forget, they could have water on the cover to qualify -- oceans, lakes, rivers, ponds, fountains, waterfalls.

Does a glass or pitcher of water count? -- or would those two count as food?

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments Has anyone been watching Animal Kingdom? It's a edgy TV show about this family of thieves headed by the Grandmother (played by Ellen Barkin).

I'd told my sister Linda about the show and she just caught a glimpse of the scene where two of the brothers are ironing a stash of crumpled up bills in order to prepare a stack to pay off a former cell mate of one of the brothers.

After explaining the reason for the scene, she quipped "I guess that's what you have to do after you launder money."

The water should have some point in the plot of the story.

Zuzana | 2570 comments Great update, Kelly! :D

I have some question about the zombie rampage though.

1/ Does the white gem (after activated) heal zombcrosis?

2/ Does the fact that zombies are marked as "Element Death" have any positive effect on the strength of the Life Magic Spell (Zest)? A modifier (2x or 3x) would be quite nice at least for the higher level zombies.

3/ What is the 1 Record rewarded for killing the Runner Zombie good for? A future quest maybe?

4/ Is the "Book of Magik" for killing the Thriller Zombie the same thing as the "Magic book" obtained after killing the Rare Binding?
You know the same as "Greater Heal Potion"="Major Heal Potion" and/or "Mercenary ticket"="Mercenary token".

Thanks.

FOR: Catch a life wisp.

Set a life wisp trap by reading one of the following books and waiting 2 days.

I have 3 books available today. Can I set ALL 3 traps Aug 1/16 and harvest August 3/16?

OR

Do I set trap 1 today, trap 2 Aug 3 and trap 3 Aug 5/16?

Zuzana | 2570 comments Kelly, could you please explain again how the spells work? (I re-read the spells section and I just don't understand some of the parts.)

I was under impression that I could use any spell I want to attack any creature as long as the creature is not based on the same element as the spell (death magic doesn't work against death element monsters). If the creature is not assigned any element then the spell causes only the basic damage (base attack value). If it is of the variety especially susceptible to the sort of magic used (e.g. Death Magic against Life Element creature) then the damage will be bigger according to the modifier (if stated).

I re-read some of the comments in this thread and it looks like the spells are severely limited. So I can't blast a rat with my Firebolt spell, or can I? And if not, does it mean that all common creatures like rats and bats are immune to magic?!

1) Sure. But it will only heal it once a month and every zombie bite re-infects :P

2) I think I'm going to go add in a 2x bonus to it. Give me a bit to update everything.

3) Heh.. oops. Yes, yes, for a future quest *looks innocent*

4) Yes, I'm going to update the other one to Magik too since that's the spelling I chose to use for it. You'll be using them soon :)

You can use any spell you want to attack any creature. It just does base damage instead of any enhanced abilities. (Plus I'm going to go add a 2x modifier onto the strong magic).

You can blast a rat with your Firebolt spell if you want. It just won't have any special effects and it takes up the same spot that a normal attack would so I doubt anyone would use it on a rat.

Update to spells:

"Note: The base attack will be modified based on strength or weakness of a creature to a particular element. Unless otherwise noted, if weak to a spell the monster will take twice base damage, if strong to a spell the monster will take half base damage."

message 7020: by Zuzana (new)

Zuzana | 2570 comments Great! Thanks, Kelly. Now it's all clear.

I know that blasting rats with spells would be a waste but it might be handy to use one for attacking. e.g. Hydra - Wrath (if it has exactly 10 hp left). :)

P.S. re Question 3: When I read it for the 1st time I thought you meant it to be a MJ Thriller record to use for testing the earmuffs. Am I totally off the mark?

Your pets can still attack. Things that affect weapons wouldn't affect the spells unless specifically noted. It basically replaces your sword/staff.

I set a trap today 02Aug, wisp is trapped 04Aug. I set another 04Aug, wisp is trapped 06Aug. etc.

Or does time of day count? Is there a waiting day in between? Like since I collected one on 04Aug, can't set another trap til 05Aug? I see I need a handful, so trying to plan them out. :)

I'm ok with it being just based on the day. Time gets hard to track. And you may reset as soon as you collect.

What about the Baroque horse? To me it always seemed that the horse aided attacks either by smacking with hooves or because the Hero has higher ground. Not sure how that would translate when casting spells but of course I'm hope it does!

He'll attack in the middle. The spells are instead of a hit not in addition to.

If you can one shot them then there's no Zombcrosis. It's only on each of their attacks.

message 7046: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Lane You have to choose one- Atk with Staff OR Sword OR spell. Only one per turn, then the monsters turn, then you can Atk with one again, the same or different one.

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments I am so sorry but I feel a little confused about how to use the spells. I DO understand you can use that instead of using the staff or sword but are the potions/orbs/pets modifiers added to that? I did see that Kelly mentioned a modifier (2x) for the harder zombies (?) but I can't for the life of me find where that applies! In Reva's example she lists

zest = 2 x 20 = 40 -35 = Shambler Zombie Dead

So that 2 x is the modifier Kelly mentioned?

message 7048: by Zuzana (last edited Aug 03, 2016 01:11AM) (new)

Zuzana | 2570 comments In your scenario, Reva, there should be 3 rounds:

1st round you attack with your staff 75-40= 35
zombie attacks > zombcrosis

2nd round
you can't use heal potions
you attack with Zest: modifier (2) > 10×2=20 + pet attack (ppp: dog 4, horse 2) = 26 (29 if damage potion is allowed), 35-26= 9 (35-29= 6)
zombrosis negated - you can heal with potion next round (or maybe this round - see my question to Kelly bellow)
zombcrosis healed - you can use heal potions now if needed
zombie attacks > zombrosis

3rd round
you can't use heal potions
you attack with zest 26 (or 29) again > zombie is dead
zombcrosis is cured (till next bite)

What is your magic staff level? You used 17 twice and 18 once in your post.
Not sure about damage potion, see my question to Kelly bellow.
Zest's base value is 10, so with the modifier 2 it's 2x10= 20

Kelly, the zest/zombcrosis negation doesn't make sense:

EDIT: Never mind my question I used the only way it makes sense.

Every attack that a zombie does infects with zombcrosis, a disease that causes health potions to fail. Attacking the zombie with Life magik will reverse the zombcrosis and allow healing before the next zombie attack. Zombcrosis heals naturally a week after being infected.

If you use Zest INSTEAD of your weapon, the zombie attacks you in the same round - so you still can't use heal potions because healing takes place at the BEGINNING of the next round, i.e. before your attack.

Maybe you should state in the zombie description that once you use the Life magic spell you can heal via heal potion in the same round.

Zuzana | 2570 comments Kelly, I asked about the potions before but so it's clear:

Combination of spells and potions: YES or NO?

1/ minor poison - definitely YES

Poisons the monster causing 2 amount of additional damage at the beginning of the turn.

2/ enhanced weapon potion - definitely NO

Enhanced Weapon Potion - Increases the damage of a weapon by 3 for the remainder of the week.

3/ damage potion - YES? I'm not sure about this one.

it's worded in a way that IMO allows for a combination with spells

Damage Potion - For the remainder of the week attack and magic power are increased by 3 points each.

4/ weakening potion - NO

Weakening Potion - Reduces your attack power to half of normal for both sword and staff (rounded up).

5/ growing strength potion - NO

Growing Strength Potion - Every turn increases the attack power of both weapons by 1. (First Turn +1, Second Turn +2, Third Turn +3). Lasts for a single battle.

6/ pet plus potion - YES

Pet Plus Potion - Doubles the effects of any pets of the hero for one week.
