A big congrats!

So, I'm home alone for these next few days as SO & Co. are on a trip and I'm going on my own trip to visit family soon. I can NOT sleep! :(
But I finished Splintered, so that's good...
Maybe I should stop reading before bed. It usually keeps me up instead of relaxing me, especially if I'm at a good part ;)
What's everyone working on?

Since you don't have to worry about keeping anyone else up, or someone else waking you early, I'd say read! I'm the same way. If I'm reading something really good, I'll stay up ALL NIGHT to finish it. It's so bad, especially if I have to work the next day. Seeing as daylight savings is about to hit, I should probably log off to try to sleep earlier...hate losing that 1 hour!
Come close, my friends, let me tell you why I am so bedraggled and worn...
I have slain the Great Novel Dragon! that fearsome beast is mince
I set out, my pets still hopped up on the pets plus potion, striving to give me 200% Dobbin and Jasper were fierce, ready to attack twice in our quest, whilst Rocky was even more stolid than normal, taking just that little extra power from the dragon's teeth. Couldn't have done it without them.
And Ysmay, however much she wanted to get out of it, is still under contract with me, to boost me up every now and again. To be fair to her, she might have been cowering behind trees, but she never failed to pep me up when I needed it. She's a good lass & I praise her to the hills.
My staff, too, was blinged up to the max. It's normal level 11 power beefed up by the damage enhance potion, the orb of power and the growth bauble. Monsters barely know what's hit them!
Being sneaky, I left out some meat from the Jabberwocky, poisoned, so that the Dragon would be weaker. It worked a treat: a torrent of vomit every round drained the dragon. Lucky that Jill's training is so good - I dread to think what would've happened if Jasper wasn't so obedient and had eaten some of the tainted meat...
Round one, I and my menagerie struck fiercely, causing (with the poison too) 28 damage. I ducked and weaved, trying to avoid being hit, but to no avail, took damage from the dragon. A slurp of major heal potion, Ysmay's help & I shook it off, ready to thwack him again.
Round two, the bauble taking further effect, I swiped for 29 damage - he was favouring his left side now. I rejoiced too soon, got side-swiped by his tail. I admit, I was stunned, but again, Ysmay did her thing, got me to choke down some more major heal (doesn't taste any nice, the more you have it - can we get Dr Cottage to work on that?) and I was back to work.
Round three started slow - I was trying psychological tactics, insulting and intimidating the dragon, with Yo' Mama tales. He didn't care much for that (Mamma's boy that he was) and attacked. I got a sturdy hit in first, Jasper chomping on his foot whilst Dobbin reared and kicked with his hooves at his head. All told, we got him down to 63HP at the end of this tussle. But that bravado caused my some damage - just 2HP before Ysmay and those vile potions did their work. Lesson learnt: don't insult his Mama!
The end was in sight now, so I dug down, hit with pin-point accuracy, and the next two rounds saw me reduce that 63HP to zero!
The dragon is slain!

Kelly, now I've got some of the gems of power, I wanted to double check how they work.
In order for the shield to work you need all five gems, but the gems don't need to be activated.
Shield plus 5 inactive gems = 1 defence point
Gems can be activated for additional powers.
Can gems be activated and used without having all 5 gems)
If they can, can they be activated without having the shield?
I've four of the five, no shield (yet), and am wondering what the best use of my efforts should be now....
Thanks!

BTW Kelly, still waiting on the PURPLE GEM activation formula,
Hint, hint. ;-)

1 Green Gem (activated in the shield - adds 1 Max HP)
1 Blue Gem (activated in the shield - halves damage of one turn per week (Sun to Sat)
1 White Gem (activated in the shield -purifies your hero once each calendar month.)
1 Red Gem (activated in the shield -either slingshot or sword or staff may be doubled 1 strike, 1/month)
0 Purple Gem TBD
Reva wrote: "No shield, no gems. It's only a few books so no hardship there. I had to get all the gems before Kelly even came up with the activation formulas."
I know you did, but there is a bit of ambiguity in the activation quests, I was hoping that could be exploited ;-)

For the stress relief quests,
Are they a one time only for each pet, or can they be repeated?

Catherine, I loved your battle play by play. It was wonderful. :)

What a valiant effort, Lady Catherine! ;-) Great job!
thanks all! I am now completely wiped out of money, tokens and most monsters. A few quiet months now, building up weapons and stores I think!

lol.

Or the horse? Maybe pretty armour for the baroque horse to give extra strength and lightweight equipment / winged shoes for the speed-up horse (does anyone have a speed-up horse? pretty but pointless in my mind!)

I bought the blending in hat instead after Zuzana pointed out that over the course of a year it would be worth it and I believe it has.
8 extra attack weeks x 6 exp = 48 extra exp. and 64 health points and 8 gold.

haha. Yeah as soon as I copy/pasted the other part of the rock into my new ROCK comment I was like.....derp. Silly me.

For the stress relief quests,
Are they a one time only for each pet, or can they be repeated?"
I'm under the impression that those are NOT repeatable. I think if they were it would be marked as such like herb/salt/etc.

I suspect that you're correct, however, I had to ask, just in case she forgot to mention it. :-)

But yes, unless it's labeled as repeatable then it's just once.

Is anyone planning to sell any Bat Wings in the caravan next month?"
I always have bats wings for sale. Also goblin's bones , bear meat, mouse meat and acorns. Sorry, no rats tails. ;-)
Let me know if you are interested when the market opens.
Not sure if it's March 24 or 25. Kelly, would you please confirm the date?

I try to keep the top of the caravan post updated.
The open market runs the last week of each month.
Next Open Market: March 25th

I suggested this last year and someone brought it up again recently but adding an armory to the house -- or for that matter, either another room, or something else that the kitchen can cook up to make having the kitchen more relevant.

BTW can you explain what The Magic Book is good for? Do you plan a quest featuring that?

The activated green gem in the shield does that.
GEMS:
1 Health Gem (grants +1 Max HP and Current HP)

I can't rate Ysmay highly enough - she got me through ALL the major battles (bar maybe two Hydra heads) last week, with low spend on heal potions - I still need some, but not half as many. Utterly invaluable :)

You're totally right about Ysmay. She's as valuable as Growth Weapon BAUBLE and Growth weapon Potion. Too bad none of these were around when I took down Novel Dragon. Just had a horse and cat. :-(

Up your sheets to level 3. Use The Twins to get tails faster. You might even consider Hat Hat although I think it's an egregious waste of gold.
On the attack side you should consider boosting your puppy to Intermediate Combat. +2 coupled with Pet plus potion gives you +4 EACH ROUND. Gets your monsters dead that much faster.
