I've just been getting in the Vlad Taltos series. There are 14 books in audio, and they are all between 6:30-9:30hours. It's a cool mash up of fantasy, witchcraft, little dragon familiar, and mafia crime/mystery. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but I picked it up specifically to level up my staff, and it's on its way to becoming one of my favorite series.

I also think the audio is done really well, and there is lots of humor in it.

Here is a link to the first book Jhereg

Oh mine has the first Dresden on audio--but that's Howard County for you. I use the Overdrive app so not through ILL. I've just gone through where I read originally (only made it through book #3), so starting book #4 soon to get to new content.

West Virginia doesn't have the first *Iron Druid* book -- just all the rest. :P I need to check Maryland though. I usually try WV first just because the hold lists aren't as long in the county I grew up in. But they have an okay collection.

Karsyn (imzadi) Those of you who listen to audiobooks, do you have a certain app you use, specifically for iOS?

I've been a long time Kindle user and my favorite audiobook app is Smart Audiobook Player, but it's not available on my iPad mini, which is still new to me. I've tried both Book Mower and Bookmobile (which are basically the same) but I don't love them. Anyone have any they can recommend?

The main thing I want/need with my audiobook player is the ability to speed it up, preferably by .1 increments like my Smart one does, rather than by .25 increments like Audible does. I never listen at normal speed, and I prefer to just bump it up a bit.

I've still just been listening to audio on my Kindle, since I love the app. I wish it was available for iOS!

message 5457: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphnesm) | 937 comments I couldn't imagine not being able to use smart audio player! Another reason I'll never get an apple lol.

If I had known, I wouldn't have gotten it! I debated getting a bigger Kindle or the Mini. I'd always wanted an iPad, and thought it would be fun to try out something new. The mini was on sale and ran me just $20 more than the bigger Fire I would have gotten, so I went for it.

I like it, I don't love it. If I had realized how much a pain in the butt it was, I probably wouldn't have gotten it. It's the little things that add up that just don't make it as good as the Fire (to me). So, I'm stuck. I went for the upgrade because my Fire (a really old 2nd Gen from 2013 I think) loses it's charge quickly now.

Now I just use both, which I'd rather not do, but it's easier to put audios on to and listen from the Fire. I prefer books on the Fire as well, though the Kobo and Marvin apps are ok for the Mini. When the time comes that I have to upgrade again down the road, I'll stick with the Kindle stuff!

Well of course I spoke too soon. I just checked and now Overdrive DOES have the first book! I know I checked maybe 2 years ago and they didn't have the MP3 version, just a windows media player version which I can't play on any of devices.

Yay! Putting it on hold now :) Glad this discussion reminded me of it.

Morgan - sorry I was skimming on my phone and must have put your comment and the one below (about Dresden Files) together in my eyes. Part of the reason I listen to books more than read! (ha)

I use the Overdrive app on my iphone. I can swap between libraries to search/check out and then they all collect on the same bookshelf for me. I love it.

I also use the audible app -- the kindle unlimited books with narration play through there. As well as my audible books I've gotten over a period of time. (Lord knows I'll end up back again for a subscription. If for no other reason but that they gave me more credits the first time I tried to quit and $20 the second time I tried to quit. lol.)

The mods do 'em about once a year, so it might be a little while. I'm just the new baby mod, so I don't know if/when they even start talking about it.

They are fun. Hopefully you are enjoying the stuff with Leprechaun's though, and there's the Around the World challenge, it has teams if you are interested in that. The upcoming read-a-thon hopefully will be tons of fun too. :)

The pot of gold will be with your forever. :) You don't even have to finish the LRPG quests this month. They can be continued on after March if you aren't finished. You just won't earn Leprechaun coins for them. If you are working on collecting coins too, you won't be able to use any book for the LRPG that was not read in March. All coin books must be read in March.

Same for the Falcon. I tried sampling mouse crisps (sort of like pork rinds with less fat) here in the Tavern. We'll see if there's any interest.

A week always means 7 days from when you use it unless it specifies a specific day that something starts/restarts.

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments Ray,

I took a quick peek at your Rock attack

I think you may need to rework your attacks. The following may help:

Rock - Many people might mock you for attempting to subdue the mighty rock. It's lasted for millions of years, who are you to try to best this foul beast. But you are not cowed by this formidable task. You will persevere! HP 1 +2 per Rock already killed) Attack 5 (+5 per Rock already killed)

Karsyn (imzadi) I know you've been at this a lot longer than Ray or I, Reva, so maybe I have it wrong too?

I have it as this ~

1 (+2 per Rock already killed) Attack 5 (+5 per Rock already killed) Health

Attack is listed 1st, then Health. You have it listed as Health first, then Attack. I think Ray's Health for the Rock is correct, though her Attack is wrong, as every level it goes up by 2, not by one.

Here's what I have for my first 5 attacks. Am I in the wrong?

• Rock (Population: 10 5)
