Petar Mihajlović I feel like the 4th book was slower than the trilogy in terms of action and plot twists. It had a bit of a different atmosphere. What did you think about it?

Emma I thought it was very good ones you got 200 pages into it, but i agree it was a bit slow but i still liked it, it had this very interesting as you said atmosphere, and i enjoyed reading it as soon as i came around the 200 pages into it:)

Adedoyinn It was a bit slow but i new i going to finish it either way because I love the hunger games lol. Great book though.

Sakari- M-Griffiths yeah, the book was really good.

not slow but too long, could've used better editing. And a lot of "this better be going somewhere" thoughts.

selene I liked the book, but I think there were some parts that could have been left out. I think it felt slow due to the lack of action.

Armanis Ar-Feinial It's a different kind of novel. I personally enjoyed it, but I want a story about lucy gray as she was just so charming.

Alyssa This book was slightly slow, but in order for this book to work, it needed to be. The point of the book was to build the character of Snow and explain the point of the Hunger Games, which Collins did magnificently. It did have some action, and it was great to see Panem from a Capital citizen POV and an earlier time period when the Hunger Games were new. In the original Hunger Games trilogy, Katniss is focused on her physical survival and bringing down Snow, but in this novel, Snow is fighting for social survival and political power, which forces the need for a slow-paced book.

Tytti I thought it was so boring I never finished it. It just kept dragging on with nothing happening or any clues as to what MIGHT happen that I just couldn't bother reading.

Well, I think the appreciation comes from this story is not the result of action of massive plot twists. We kind of already know what's going to happen at the end before we pick up the first page.
This is the rare Person vs self novel that we rarely see these days, especially in the fantasy or science fiction genre. It is slow because it needs to be. This story isn't about the hunger games, it's about how Snow regains his estate or becomes the next President, or fixes the Hunger games ect.

I agree 100%. I actually liked it, sure there were some parts that could have been cut up a bit. I appreciate a good person vs self conflict novel every now and again. We don't get that in fantasy of science fiction very often.

The Book Bear I feel like the atmosphere of the book, was a bit different, but then again, I may have just been thrown off by the third person (after getting used to the first person tense!). I suppose the third person tense was used to represent the past, but I think it is a major difference between the trilogy and the...prequel? I enjoyed the names for the characters, and I thought that the 10th Hunger Games was an interesting premise. However, I felt like there were some scenes that overdid the 'pre- future,' such as the katniss roots. I wished I knew what happened to Lucy, though! That part felt kind of sudden to me.
One of the better parts of the book for me was the last page or so, I felt like the rat poison fit beautifully (although I didn't realize he hated Highbottom THAT MUCH).

xoxo.mackenzie No, it was beautiful.

Madelon I didn't think it was slow at all. I think the ending of every chapter was so good or unexpecting that I wanted to keep on reading. I never finished a (for me) longer book so fast. I'm gonna reread the whole series now. I love the Hunger Games.

FerPerezz I don't think this. I think the book was planned to the cinematography, and it will awesome.

Preach

Daisy Rae I honestly thought that this book developed the country of Panem a lot more than the original trilogy ever did. I think it set out to make me sympathize with Snow, so it failed in that aspect. Definitely worth a read, though.

Cayman I think it started out great but when Coriolanus got sent to be a peacekeeper it got EXTREMELY slow. I kind of brought the book from 5 stars to 4 stars for me. The beginning was to action packed and full of exciting characters, but I felt the peace keeper life was extremely drawn out and kind of just got boring..Maybe its a given since he is literally sent there as a punishment or "lesson"

Matt Pfarr It was very slow, especially in the story after the story. I hope they figured out a better way to structure it in the movie.

It was definitely slower than the first three books, but i think it really got to the point. Opened my eyes, i guess.

Betsy I didn't think it was slow because to me it was about world-building, character study and some sociology themes.

Loureirinho Yes totally. Until almost the end of the games, the story is interesting and progresses with situations that really contribute to the story. When the games are over, it gets boring and events develop in a very weak way.

libby grace Not gonna lie, it was a pretty slow book for me to read. It's still one of my favorite books and it's so plot-filled. The chapters are really long though.

Tej Storyline wise, yeah it felt slow. Character “development” & influence wise the book was great

Yeah, I totally agree.

Leila Ivory The fourth book was perfect. Yes is was a little slow in the middle but it NEEDED to be. It didn't drag on, it was the perfect pace for the flow of the book.

Melanie At first I do admit I found it to be a bit slow I was even frustrated that it took 200 pages to finally get to the Games. However, I devoured Parts 2 & 3 so maybe the exposition felt a bit tedious but it certainly picks up quickly! Like others mentioned it does have less action in comparison to the original trilogy but the action scenes it does have are hard hitting. Overall I enjoyed being able to get in depth in the psyche of young Snow even if there were lulls in the narrative.

Sawyer I think it was a bit slower than all of the ones before (Excluding Mockingjay because I thought Mockingjay was very slow.) But I still thought this book was very well written and I enjoyed reading it.

Trix Riley I loved the book, cried over it around two times. I thought the pace was fine.

message 30: by Noor (new) - rated it 4 stars

Noor Nieuwboer i def had a harder time finishing the book than with the others, but i think that was because it took some getting into. The book itself was pretty nice and gave some good bakstory. But overall i think that because the book was so different from the rest the pacing was different too which did also make it more "boring" than the others in the sense of how much action there was

message 31: by Lauren (new) - added it

Lauren For me, it wasn't really memorable. Maybe because I'm used to the fast pace of the original triology, but it just felt slow, and boring at times.

message 32: by Molly (new) - rated it 1 star

Molly I couldn’t finish it. I was expecting so much after the first 3 books but this one was sooo slow and like really boring. I was actually so disappointed, I couldn’t get past halfway

message 33: by Liv (new) - rated it 5 stars

Liv It was slower than the first three. To finish it I had to listen to it as an audiobook.
