Thewheelbarrow has gone fully down the Cosmere rabbithole and has read 10 of Brandon Sanderson's books this year. Over two posts he has reviewed the first 6 books of the Mistborn series. The complex world-building and emotional stakes keep him hooked. "The climax of this book caused me to audibly gasp and then explain everything to my wife about why I was so worked up."

my goodness, I suppose I should give this series a shot, as CBR has yet to lead me astray! I haven't read any Sanderson, but I was struck by an offhand comment from Patrick Rothfuss about how much time per day ( SO MUCH TIME!) Sanderson spends writing. It was astonishing.

Ashley (theanswerisbooks) | 43 comments Sanderson books, especially Cosmere books (his shared universe books), are great. They have subseries that stand by themselves, but work as one big universe as well. If you want to start small, I'd recommend Warbreaker or Elantris, since they are standalones. If you want to start with the big epic one, and my favorite series of his, start with The Stormlight Archives. Middle option is Mistborn, a trilogy, and then a second quadrology that takes place 300 years later.

Sanderson makes me laugh because he writes like it's his job *and* his hobby. He takes a break from writing a book by writing another book. Literally.
