amanda ✨ (its_amandaa) | 101 comments i’m gonna try and find some spooky stuff without giving myself any nightmares! lol

message 154: by Greg, Slime Knight (new)

Greg | 1117 comments Mod
I want the nightmares. September and October are mostly horror reads for me. Along with a ton of horror movies. Recently finished The Book of Accidents which was a crazy sci-fi-ish horror novel and went and saw the new Candyman film last night which I thought was really good as well.

message 155: by amanda ✨ (new)

amanda ✨ (its_amandaa) | 101 comments i can’t do horror by myself. i end up overthinking and scaring myself even more 😭

Do u prefer reading digitally or reading your copy?

message 162: by Jenny, The Odd Otaku (new)

Jenny Clark | 927 comments Mod
I'm not too picky either way, though I do have a lot of physical books and get a lot of physical books from the libary, I also have plenty of kindle books and borrow digital books from the libary alot and use shonen jump as well. My only rule is that when I buy series I like to have it either all physical or all digital, no mixing and I like to have it all softcover or all hardcover, or at least once I have one in hardcover all the ones after that be in hardcover too.

message 163: by Jenny, The Odd Otaku (new)

Jenny Clark | 927 comments Mod
Actually, soeaking of the digital vs physical, with AOT, since I am not buying it, I actually read 4 volumes digital, since kindle's Comixology had them to borrow and my libary only had once copy of those volumes and they were still checked out when I got to them.

message 164: by Roger (new)

Roger | 137 comments I've been really enjoying Tokyo Revengers. I also just finished the 2nd volume of Land of the Lustrous.

message 165: by RENE (new)

RENE | 27 comments I reading The witch and the Beast. Wandering Witch the journey of Elaina. I just gotta say, I feel Eleina need a disclaimer for super out left field subversion. Witch and Beast, is darker than I was thinking it was going to be.

Greg | 1117 comments Mod
Interesting I’ll have to look into those. I’ve never hear of 2 of them.

message 167: by RENE (new)

RENE | 27 comments Greg do not let the first pages or the cover of Elaina fool you. It very deceiving.

RENE wrote: "Greg do not let the first pages or the cover of Elaina fool you. It very deceiving."

Are you doing the Manga or the original Light Novel Series? It does seam like an intriguing series.

I've started reading Fairy Tail. I watched the first 51 episodes way back in the day when it was airing but figured I'd try to give the series another go. I just finished volume 4. I'm enjoying it so far though I've never actually finished a shonen series except Kenshin so we shall see how this plays out.

message 169: by RENE (new)

RENE | 27 comments greg I doing the manga and maybe the light novel later. I focusing on some manga ans light novel series first. I watch most of fairy tail. I say it good barring Erza or Natzu power scale issues, and friendship power up sort of. I was mainly anime wathcher until recently. I could make recomendations on that but My reading battle Shonen experience is tiny in comparison. I put the names of what I reading that is Battle shonen. Maybe you find something to your liking. DEAD MAN WONDERLAN. Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Walts Glory of the Losers. BATTLE ANGEL ALITA DELUXE EDITION. I like these except for Mobile gundam. I not sure what is happening lol.

Deadman Wonderland and Battle Angel Alita are great! I've never been able to get into Gundam either LOL! I look forward to seeing what else you read RENE!

message 171: by RENE (new)

RENE | 27 comments thanks. I think the issue maybe the quick pace and jumping from one character to another. It weird for me.

YALL IM PLANNING TO READ VAGABOND WHO ELSE HAVE READ IT? was it good? Should I commit to it?

message 173: by Grace (new)

Grace | 143 comments I read it earlier this year and absolutely loved it but in case u don't know it's unfinished and the author's not working on it anymore. :( I only found that out once I'd finished.

message 174: by Maeve (new)

Maeve (faeriexoxo) | 3 comments For manga, I am reading Owari no Seraph

For novels, currently ruin and rising

I was pretty disappointed by the Shadow and Bone Trilogy. How are you liking it?

For manga I’ve been reading a bunch of Fairy Tail. Currently on volume 20. Also read the first volume for Kiruru Kill Me and Me & Roboco.

For novels I’m currently reading The Nameless Ones by John Connolly which is the 19th novel in a series of Dark horror/thrillers about detective Charlie Parker. It’s an excellent Horror/Mystery cross over.

I’m also putting the finishing touches on a Richard Laymon novel Allhollow’s Eve and recently finished the fourth book in a LitRPG series by Andrew Seiple called Threadbare. Which I highly recommend for anyone who likes isekai anime. It is about a sentient teddy bear that builds stats and party members in an epic fantasy quest.

I don't like the main character in shadow and bone, she's better in the show tho

I didn't know vagabond was incomplete :((

message 178: by Greg, Slime Knight (new)

Greg | 1117 comments Mod
The Shadow and Bone is on of those rare instances where the show/movie is better. Though I have read that the Six of Crows Duology is much better and honestly they were the better characters in the show too.

message 179: by fish, The Danmei Reader (new)

fish (haitangs) | 391 comments Mod
I agree, the six of crows duology is much better than s&b trilogy. I don't know if it's because of thw writing style but I heard the latest book in the grishaverse is also the same as s&b so I don't have a plan on picking it up ksndksks

Finished Attack On Titan!!!!!!
Also reading Iron Widow which is inspired by lots of otaku culture, ancient china and its really good so far. Also reading a romance, Vendetta Road, which is so so. Wriring is good but characters are wayyy over the top

message 181: by Shagun (last edited Nov 25, 2021 01:17PM) (new)

Shagun (shagunmaybe) I read chapter 314 from Black Clover yesterday. And now I'm reading Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba chapter 65.

I would like to give both of those a try at some point.

I finished an excellent Fantasy Trilogy by RJ Barker called the Tide Child. If you like pirates or high seas adventure definitely check it out.

I’m still going through Fairy Tail albeit slowly. I also started a fantasy stand alone novel Under the Whispering Door which so far is pretty good to.

I'm back to Fairy Tail after about a month break. I've also read a couple first volumes. Including: No Matter What You Say, Furi-San is Scary, Frieren, and Cheeky Brat.

Frieren was excellent. Cheeky Brat was a fun shojou. Not sure if I'm sold on Furi-San but it was a cute book albeit short.

message 184: by RENE (new)

RENE | 27 comments I bought Pleasure and corruption. Read the whole thing in 2 days. Surprise me, since I am a slow reader. I also bought other manga like My dress-up darling and it was wrapped in plastic. It also has a parental advisory. I don't get it. Pleasure and Corruption content and subject is way more extreme. I bought The Witch and the Beast volume 2. I bought Fire Force Volume 1 and I started to read it. Then I read they are making an omnibus for it. Dunno what to do.

I see you're reading Lady Mechinica, Monstress and Deadman Wonderland RENE! Good choices! What are you thinking of them so far?

message 190: by RENE (new)

RENE | 27 comments Lady is pretty lore heavy and I like it. I'm still not sure if I like the MC. The slapping scene annoys me, but the art I love it. Monstress is my favorite right now. I dread the live action version. I do not like the cat slashing scene. Maybe that changes later. The art reminds me of  bible graphic novel I

used to own when I was a kid. I watch the anime and heard that the manga is different. I like the action. I really like the relationship between Ganta and Shiro too. I finding myself picking mostly Image comics.

message 191: by Jenny, The Odd Otaku (new)

Jenny Clark | 927 comments Mod
Image tends to be a really good publisher and I didn't know Monstress was getting live action! What network?
Yes, Deadman Wonderland is sooooo good!!!!

message 192: by RENE (new)

RENE | 27 comments I should been more clear. I meant I am afraid for the live action if it happens. it pure speculation on my part. sorry.

I have not been up to snuff with my manga and anime so far this year. I've been reading a few mystery thrillers after finishing a couple of "dungeon core" novels.

I read the first 2 Hap and Leonard novels by Joe R. Lansdale which were both solid and fun. Now I am currently reading. Razorblade Tears by S.A. Cosby which is excellent so far.

message 194: by Roger (new)

Roger | 137 comments I've been all over the place. I finally finished Nausicaa (amazing read), started Gintama, started JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (Golden Wind), finally started Berserk, and really got into Tokyo Ghoul. I've had a few other new ones here and there but those are the main ones.

I'm actually having a lot of fun reading JoJo. I'm on Part 5 (Golden Wind). Part 4 was my least favorite so far.

Gintama is just wild. Good comedy but knows how to get serious and it's just a treat to read.
