Simms | 20 comments I predicted that most of The Vanishing Half, Leave the World Behind, Transcendent Kingdom, Luster, Deacon King Kong, and Hamnet would get in, and look at that! Too bad it was Hamnet that got left out, I wanted to read that one.

Amy (asawatzky) | 1743 comments interestingly enough, none of the unique prediction picks made it into the shortlist, so groupthink was on point this round!

all 4 of these folks (plus Lark Benobi) correctly picked 12 books (wow!) Simms' correct play-in round pick put him over the top.

Congratulations on your win! And yes, it really is too bad that Hamnet didn't make it; it was one of my favorite books from this year. I highly recommend you read it anyway.

Heidi (heidikatherine) | 92 comments Congratulations, Simms!

Is this not almost the same play-in theme we had last year?

C | 793 comments Congrats Simms! I guess I kept overthinking things and removed quite a few of the shortlist from my guesses. Darn ToB! haha. It's interesting that of the shortlist, seven books are writers that have been included in a previous tournament and six of the books are first novels (by my count) from very new writers. And yeah, I don't think anyone guessed the play-in round because it does seem a little similar to last year. Also, so many of the play-in guesses are amazing.

I second all of this - nice work on your guessing, Simms!

Bretnie | 717 comments Woop woop, well done Simms, quite impressive guessing!

message 61: by Neale (new)

Neale | 122 comments I am extremely surprised that Hamnet and Apeirogon did not make the shortlist.

Bretnie | 717 comments Simms, if you'd like a prize for your big victory, I'd be happy to pass along my copy of either A Children's Bible or Transcendent Kingdom after the holidays when it feels less crazy to go to the post office!
