Thanks! I was hoping that was the answer.
Please note Kate's sample post for Name of the Game. It is different than how I posted in the Reading Plans folder. We need to help Kate keep track of squares used and this will be easiest for her.https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
I would like to lock in the following MPGs:Historical fiction - The Remains of the Day
Romance - The Last Anniversary
Mystery - My Sister, the Serial Killer
Dystopia and Science fiction - The Water Cure
I would like to lock in MPG Adventure for Winter Brothers: A Season at the Edge of America by Ivan Doig
Kathleen (itpdx) wrote: "Help. I forget how to look up member’s five star books."To find ratings by other group members, search on the Bookshelf for your book title. Click on "View Group Reviews" on the results page. Only group members will be displayed there. Members do not have to be active members of the group.
Looking the other direction, to find a new title, would require a visit to specific member's bookshelves.

And LOL - I made my first post for this and I couldn't have made it harder on myself. But I think I finally got it right and hope Kate can see her way this season.
For the “title word” tasks, is it limited to the listed words or can it be found on the title...like 4D, Title word: Dead, deadly, death, detective, would Deathless work since “death” is in the title?
Anika wrote: "For the “title word” tasks, is it limited to the listed words or can it be found on the title...like 4D, Title word: Dead, deadly, death, detective, would Deathless work since “death..."We'll limit to the stated words. Have you used 4E yet? It works for that square.

One more question: would Prometheus Unbound count for a retelling? In the synopsis it says that it picks up where Aeschylus’s Prometheus Bound leaves off, but from the description it sounds like it is a retelling of the Roman myth...
For cell E4 Double Trouble: Title or author name has consecutive letters that are the same? Can the double letter cross two words? The Medusa and the Snail: More Notes of a Biology Watcher by Lewis Thomas
For example: MedusA And

What an eye! I would not have seen this, but yes, those are consecutive and would count for this square.

Thanks! I am trying to figure out my options between Name of the Game and the RWS tasks.
Locking in Thriller and also Mystery for Murder in an Irish Churchyard by Carlene O'Connor. Thank you.
Owlette wrote: "For square 12E (MPG Science fiction), is MPG "Science Fiction Fantasy" acceptable?Stardust
Thanks."
yes.
Does Australia count as an island? (A very large one, I guess!)Also locking in MPG of adventure for The Enigma Game
Katy wrote: "Does Australia count as an island? (A very large one, I guess!)Also locking in MPG of adventure for The Enigma Game"
No, sorry. Australia is a continent.

Ha ha, yes, I guess under that definition pretty much ever continent/continental mass would count :)
For "Author born in Europe," if the GR author page does not give the birthplace, do we need to provide a link to a source?

The 2020 Goodreads Choice Awards have been announced. These titles are now eligible for Square E8.https://www.goodreads.com/choiceaward...
Here are the rules, Jayme:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
And there you can see the scoring.
Scoring:
15.1-15.4: 15 points
15.5-15.7: 20 points
15.8-15.9: 30 points
15.10: 45 points
This is my first time doing this, could you explain what it means when people ask to lock in MPGx? Thanks!
MPG means main page genre. If you look on a book's page, on the right hand side it will list what genres it is like historical fiction, contemporary, fiction. So some tasks require that you read a specific genre. People lock it in because the number of people who classify that genre will change. Hope this helps.
Yes, we have some abbreviations that might not be obvious.MPG = Main Page Genre
We have found that display on the book page is often fluid, especially for titles that don't have a lot of shelvings. We believe members should be able to rely on their plans when they make them, so they "lock in" the display because by the time they get to the book that section on the book page may have changed.
The other important abbreviation that you did not ask about is
MPE, which is Most Popular Edition
Here at RwS we use the MPE to determine page counts and titles, so it's really important. For our purposes, the MPE is the most shelved English language print edition (not large print). If no print edition exists, we will use the most-shelved digital edition, not audio.
You've been a GR member for awhile, so you may already know you can see this on the All Editions page, sorted by "num ratings" (which is the default). You will want to "expand details" to see language.
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "Yes, we have some abbreviations that might not be obvious.Thank you both. Does the different scoring:
15.1-15.4: 15 points
15.5-15.7: 20 points
15.8-15.9: 30 points
15.10: 45 points
refer to the number of times you post a book, or is there someplace where I can see what 15.1 means?
You read 10 books for the mini challenge so your first book you read is 15.1 and it is worth 15 points. The second book you read for the subchallenge is 15.2 and is worth 15 points. Same for 15.3 and 15.4. Your 5th to 7th books you read for the sub challenge are worth 20 points each. 8th and 9th books are worth 30 points each and the 10th book is worth 45 points.

The group numbered in the 15s we call a sub-challenge. It is a mini-challenge that functions somewhat differently than the 10- and 20-pointers. If you choose to read for this group, you must complete all 10 books without repeating any. This season that is probably obvious, but other seasons it wouldn't be so obvious to a new member. I'm glad you're asking about this. If you choose to, most seasons you can repeat the group again once you have done it the first time.
Just checking - for Literature Map square, can we use a book written by the author who is mapped (e.g., Agatha Christie)?
Owlette wrote: "Just checking - for Literature Map square, can we use a book written by the author who is mapped (e.g., Agatha Christie)?"Yes!
Now I see why I suddenly found that the book I read did then didn't fit square 16D-no "e" in title. It has two listings-one with "other stories" and one without.A Good Man is Hard to Find and Other Stories
and
A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Can I use 16D?
Oh I see now, the second is just the one story. The one I read is a collection and does contain other stories. So to re-organize!

Yes, if you're claiming the linked title with only the one story and not the collection. Although there is considerable added material for the MPE, it has been combined with those editions that are just the story where the page count would be insufficient. I've looked at the librarian log and those who did the combining are very experienced, so we'll go with that.
Was this more answer than you really wanted? ;-)
