Chelsea quickly learns how to manage her abductor and ultimately escapes. Your thoughts about the scenes describing her escape? Did you think she’d make it or were you convinced she’d be recaptured?

Robin (robinmy) | 2478 comments First off, I'm not sure how you pick a lock with a nail. That couldn't be easy. I thought Chelsea would get out of the building she was in, but would be caught by her abductor and his dog. I was very surprised when she was eventually rescued along the road.

I’ve seen a demonstration before of how you use a nail to pick a lock but doubt I could remember it today!

I was sure he’d recapture her and my heart was racing. It wasn’t until later that I remembered she was a runner. She was on an adrenaline high, too.

This was one of the more exciting scenes in the story.

Robin (robinmy) | 2478 comments It was very exciting. I forgot all about Chelsea being a runner. I was sure the abductor was going to send his dog after her.

I was ready to go to bed, but couldn't stop reading until she was caught or rescued.

I did the same thing! I refused to pause until I determined she was safe.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1812 comments Chelsea was smart. I really liked her resourcefulness and was willing to suspend my disbelief that she could use a nail to pick the lock, and maneuver enough despite her injuries to climb out the hole and escape. Desperation gives people strength that they never knew they had.

That said, I was sure that she would be caught and killed. I even thought for a second that the motorist who helped her (not the one filming it) might have been the abductor coming to collect her.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1215 comments My heart was certainly pounding through the entire escape until she was completely safe. I read this book into one very late night.

If you were reading this scene late at night, there was no way you could put it down at this point.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments I was sure the person who found Chelsea was going to be the abductor. I even expected him to kill the photographer.

Clearly we were all allowing our imaginations to run amok!

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments LOL

I think it might be a leftover feeling from Stella and Mac's book when the killer followed the woman through the woods, and took her body out of the road after Mac swerved to avoid hitting her.

Me too!

You’re probably right, Lauren. I was so in the moment, expecting the worst.
