One thing I've learned is always to be leery when a book is described as being funny, because, quite often, it's not.

Well, this book is legitimately funny, both in premise and in prose. The way characters do things is funny and is worth the read.

The premise is also quite funny at times, though I also got lost at some points and felt like I was drifting in and out of understanding what was going on at points.

The basic premise, that a tourist from a rich part of the world was coming to see the sites and to inadvertantly cause chaos seems like a pretty ripe field for satire or for making a statement, though I'm not sure that's what was really going on here.

Seeing as Pracheet seems to have been pretty beloved and had a long run of writing novels, I'm assuming that the reading gets even better as he progressed as a writer and therefore would be interested in checking out more of the Discworld series.
