If you have any ideas for fun events I could host next year let me know here!
Check out what's already planned to be going down in 2021: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

More info and sign ups for the reader recommends monthly event will start soon. Basically it's just an event where each month a random member of the group who has signed up will recommend around 7 books they like and would recommend to others, some MG (we are an MG group) but they can also recommend YA/Adult/NA/etc

Come vote for what our next series readathon in 2021 should be: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...

Best books of 2020 readathon will be a readathon where everyone picks the best book they read in 2020 and we make a list, then I'll do my random picker thing!

Next year's TBR challenge will be celebrating/honouring important events that happened in 2020. So far I have tasks relating to corona, the BLM movement, the US presidential election and the Australian wildfires. If you guys can think of any other prominent events that occurred this year that you think I should honour/celebrate let me know!

Update on 2021 events ideas:
I’m going to pushing back the first Reader Recommends so it’ll start in Feb instead of Jan (which means only 11 people will be picked and not 12) and the Best Books of 2020 Readathon can end in Jan instead of in Feb.

Also thought it’d be fun to have a whole month dedicated to graphic novels seeing as not enough people read them but there are MG graphic novels out there. Haven’t decided yet but maybe April? Or July?

May is the month of middle grade so there should be some kind of middle grade centred event in that month, not sure what, I’d welcome any ideas!

September will be Steampunk September as I know Dee asked for it this year but I didn’t manage to fit it in.

Still seem to be missing the big event of the year... every year there’s a big group event like in 2019 it was the august challenge, in 2020 the CYOA Challenge so I need something equally spectacular for 2021... going to need to brainstorm for this one!

Ilsen | 516 comments We could always bring back the big Middle Grade challenge! That would be fun to do again, with maybe some changes. Also we could have more themed readathons as I really like those!

Domitylle (can only update books rn. sorry) (dom_brlw) | 55 comments You could do a "Believathon" type challenge :) or inspire yourself from it :)
It's really cool and would be absolutely spectacular!

- here's the link to all the info of Believathon: https://believathon.co.uk/believathon...
It's just an idea though and I don't know if we would be allowed to reuse the challenge...

Spens (Sphynx Reads) (sphynxreads) | 152 comments Just a heads up, KotLC book 9 isn't set to release until November of next year so we might not have a series readathon for that month.

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4291 comments Mod
@Spencer thanks for letting me know! I’ll take it off the 2021 schedule and we can read it another time not in November because I don’t want people to feel like they have to rush to buy a new book just for the group!

@Ilsen I like that idea actually. And because this’ll be my second time hosting the middle grade team challenge then I’ll be able to iron out all the wrinkles and problems we had last time. And come up with like a fun mini task thing that I really wanna do in it! Was august a good time to host it? Or is it ok to pull it forward to May?

As for themed readathons that’s a good idea! I wanted to do more in different themes but I didn’t want people to get tired of the format. Already there are 2 readathons planned for next year in that format: the best books of 2020 readathon and the October readathon.

@Domi the believathon looks fantastic! I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it before. I feel like it’s pretty much like the CYOA challenge, right? I might be wrong but that’s what it looks like except way more professional!

message 9: by A Robin Reads (new)

A Robin Reads (arobinreads) I really like Themed readathons as well. Maybe also Nonfiction November with MGs?

message 10: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4291 comments Mod
@Robin that’s an interesting idea! I really don’t have any interest in nonfiction so I wouldn’t take part and I’m wondering how many others would be the same... maybe I should do a poll and if enough people are interested then we’ll do it!

I'm not real big on nonfiction either. There are some really good MG nonfiction books out there, but for me they are few and far between. When I was teaching, I always found it tough when we had to find a nonfiction book interesting enough to read with students.
I do like the idea of monthly themes, however.

message 12: by Kristie (new)

Kristie Yeah I like monthly themes too!

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4291 comments Mod
@Kristie @Lynn I like them too! They're a lot of fun to host and it's always fun to see what books people come up with for it. I'm also not a big fan of nonfiction, Lynn. I didn't even know middle grade nonfiction books existed!

message 14: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 516 comments I have some nonfiction to get to but I’m not a humongous fan. Having the monthly theme is good though! Maybe with the readathon that we do or not.

They exist, but there aren't many that are both interesting and entertaining.

Hmmm... I'll see closer to the time. November is so very very far away! In other news: I've already started planning for the Middle Grade Reading Challenge which I've moved back to August because that's a better time for me to host because it's the summer holidays and it'll hopefully be a better time for people to take part too. Going to hopefully have some fun and different tasks in it this time and I remember how I floundered last time with not creating enough tasks beforehand so this time I plan to create lots more and have more teams if enough people sign up!

That sounds like fun. All of these ideas for next year sound great. Looking forward to them all.

@Deaflower that’s a fantastic idea! December is free and it’s quite a whimsical and magical month so it’s kind of fitting. Were you thinking just fairies or all fantasy?

message 19: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4291 comments Mod
@Dee aah ok, I’ll get into doing some work to make that fairy themed readathon happen in December!

Our first themed readathon of the year was the Best Books of 2020 readathon but that’s finished. Our next one is the Graphic Novel readathon in July and then we’ll have the fairy tale one in December! The steampunk September event is a challenge not a readathon so that one doesn’t count. Good to have a bit of variety!

@Deaflower yeah there are a lot of great mg and YA graphic novels out there and ever since I've gotten into graphic novels I've come across so many that I never knew existed before. It's going to be fun to share that with the group as it's a medium not everyone has ventured into.

message 21: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 516 comments Will we not be doing the March Women’s History themed or the October themed Readathon again this year?

message 22: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4291 comments Mod
@Ilsen oh yeah definitely the October readathon is happening. Did I not mention that? I was supposed to🤦🏻‍♀️
As for the March Women’s History Month... idk, do the people want it? We already will have 2 series readathons and Spencer’s Reader Recommends so I thought any more events would be too much. I don’t know, what do you think?

message 23: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 516 comments @Kadi We don’t have to do it if we have a lot of other events. I was just asking because I did like it, as I like all the other themed readathons!

@Ilsen yeah I don't want to overwhelm everyone with too many events. We can always do it again next year!
Also, I've been planning for the October readathon and I'm happy I've managed to come up with an interesting twist for it. Can't wait for October to come around again! It feels like it just left and now I want it to come back😂

message 25: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 516 comments @Dee I’m pretty sure the TBR Challenge 2021 is the replacement to that. It’s just not called TBR Purge

message 26: by Kadi, Creator (new)

Kadi P (kadi_p) | 4291 comments Mod
@Deaflower oh yeah Ilsen is right. They’re both the TBR challenges of their separate years, it’s just in 2020 I decided to give it a fancy name and then this year I’ve gone back to the good old classic name. Sorry, I would’ve responded quicker but I was reading Wundersmith (for one of the buddy reads) and it’s a whirlwind of a time!

Lynn (ftbooklover) | 615 comments I discovered an interesting video blogger on Youtube who is very down to earth and likes to discuss YA and some MG books. Her videos might make a good basis for group discussion. The vlog is called Aviva's Library and here is the link for her channel.

Just a thought.
