Hello everyone! My name is W. K. Valentine and I have recently completed the manuscript for The Whiskey Thief. It will be published at the end of November 2020 on Amazon. I am currently looking to supplement my list of reviewers and would love to have you on board.
Logline: When the rascally crew of the Whiskey Thief inadvertently recovers an encrypted drive, the ruthless CEO of the Carmichael Group will stop at nothing to get it back as they try to survive long enough to release its society shattering implications.
Synopsis: Hen and her rascally crew of serial screwups make up the hard-luck crew of the Whiskey Thief. Likely the most ridiculous bunch of bounty hunting Crows on Ganymede, they only need a few more bounties and the ship will finally be spaceworthy. Their golden ticket off ‘Mede and all its corporate-sponsored insanity. Problem is, jobs don’t always go the way they’re supposed to. Sometimes they land you in possession of something the most powerful corporation in the system will stop at nothing to get back.
As the hunters become the hunted, Hen and the crew of the Whiskey Thief must run. Run from the crazy bands of Crows and corporate soldiers on their tails. Run from the pasts that rear up to confront them. And run straight into the high-stakes conflict between the rebel Regulators and the corporatocracy.
In terms of the novel, I’d love to give you comparable titles, however, I specifically wrote it because I feel it is something missing from the current offerings. A gritty, yet FUN character-driven dystopian satire on modern society that will have you laughing one moment, and in tears the next. The story explores the nature of largescale greed, the disparity of wealth and power, and the soul-crushing dehumanizing effects of social control through hyper-consumerism and perceptual management. However, at its core, this character-driven struggle is about the destructive ways we try to cope with past traumas and the distinctly human ability to overcome impossible odds in order to grasp that speck of light at the end of the tunnel and strangle the hell out of it for all we’re worth.
The genre is mashed. Personally, I think the best way to describe it would be “Cowboy Bebop” met “Archer” then had an ugly “Brave New World” love child. It is in the sci-fi category, although this is mainly due to setting (In the far future. Earth has been destroyed. Humans reside on Mars and the moons of Jupiter). While it certainly could be labeled as speculative, this doesn’t give much of an idea of what is within its cover. I like to think of it as a dystopian-punk-opera. It borrows aspects from these subgenres as opposed to being a combination of them. A distinction I feel is important.
