Being the third movie (and book) of the series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (directed by Alfonso Cuarón) is one of my favorite movies of the series. Many movies sometimes make me feel as if there is just wasted time, where a lot of what's happening does not relate to the story at all. With this movie, I feel like everything that I watch is important to what's going to happen, so I really appreciate that about it.
The Sorcerer's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets (first and second of the series) seemed to be a bit more aimed towards children, however The Prisoner of Azkaban seems to be more "grown." We see Harry fighting dementors for the first time, which can be scary for children to watch. In my perspective, I viewed the dementors as the depression that Harry went through, from having a terrible childhood and not having a loving life. With his patronus, I saw that as the good things that he eventually got in his life: his friends. Ron and Hermione stick with him like glue and are his best friends. This gave Harry a better life and helped him fight off his sadness.
I enjoyed watching this movie and the introduction of the new characters were also really fun to watch.
I definately agree with what you said about the darkness of the film. Honestly, Harry's humanity is what separates him from Voldemort and is cricual for him throughout the series. Overall, good review and I would be interested to know what you thought of the book
