Any volunteers for hosting one of our quarterly reads? Volunteers are appreciated.

Gail (gailifer) | 2174 comments Tentatively, I will take Woman in White as that was my number one pick. Of course, we will have to confirm when it gets closer to the 4th quarter as who knows what can happen between now and then.

Amanda Dawn | 1679 comments ...And I've read them all except Buddenbrooks lol. I can volunteer to host The Children's Book, I read it for my TBR this year.

I've read two of them. I haven't read The Children's book so thanks for volunteering.

Well, 2 out of 4 unread isn't bad. That's better than I faired this year. I will NOT be reading The Goldfinch, lol.

Diane | 2044 comments Haven't we already read The Woman in White for a seasonal read on two previous occasions? This will make the 3rd time...

books are still open to be voted in unless within the past 2 years because group membership changes over time.

Maybe the seasonal reads should have a longer gap, since there are so few of them each year. It will take us forever to read all the books in that page range.

Gail (gailifer) | 2174 comments OR could we do a buddy read for a Quarterly within the same page range if we have already read the book that was picked?

The Woman in White has never been a seasonal read but it has been BOTM twice, 2011 and 2015. It is not a longer book and I guess we will be reading it at a slower pace. The past discussions on whether books should be held out of contention has always resulted in "no" because it is unfair to newer members. It won the vote. If people had read it, it would not have won.

A buddy read would be awesome. That would make it fair to "older" readers who find fewer and fewer books to read.

I am a "newer" person and it has never been an expectation of mine for the group to reread books I have missed. There are people who have been here far longer and who have read more books than I who have to reread the samebooks over and over. I wasn't even here when that was a BOTM before. I don't want the book revoked. Just something to consider in the future.

Tracy (tstan) | 559 comments Well, phooey. I've read all the quarterly reads this time. I'll maybe get some other chunksters out of the way instead.

Kristel, have you announced the yearly read yet?

yes, I have. It is in the Planning 2021 thread. The yearly read is A Man Without Qualities. Robert Musil

Sorry, I had a poorly controlled "Karen" moment yesterday when I wrote this. *Must* suppress those at all costs. Stress is making me bi@+chy lately.

Diane, I am trying to think of something we can do. I would like it to be different than the buddy read. I am thinking though. So hang in there.

George P. | 725 comments I look forward to Mann's Buddenbrooks, in fact I will be starting Mann's The Magic Mountain in the next few days. Perhaps I could host that one.

I didn't like Tartt's The Secret History all that much, so will be passing on The Goldfinch,

I read The Woman in White in 2017. Unsure whether I'll read The Children's Book as yet.

are you volunteering for Buddenbrooks? I've read both Tartt books and The Goldfinch isn't anything like The Secret History.
