Jordan (likearollingstone) I also chose to read The Vanishing Half for this prompt. Wow! I was wary of it before starting, to be honest, because it's received so much hype on social media and I seem to not get along very well with popular Bookstagram titles, but I couldn't put this down. I'd definitely recommend this book.

I'd also recommend My Sister, the Serial Killer, if anyone's still looking for an option for this prompt.

Marie (marie123) | 93 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
Lila and Hadley by Kody Keplinger
2. Do you typically enjoy books about siblings?
Yes, I am an only child so siblings are fascinating to me.
3. What would you recommend to someone wanting to read a book about an interesting sibling relationship?
Middlegame by Seanan McGuire
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

message 53: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 484 comments I read The Sanatorium

I don't specifically look for books about siblings.

I would recommend Pride and Prejudice, I hated Little Women far too saccharine for my liking.

message 54: by Dubhease (new)

Dubhease | 1176 comments 1. What are you reading for this category? I read A Swiftly Tilting Planet

2. Do you typically enjoy books about siblings? I find the sibling bond fascinating as I'm not particularly close to mine. I enjoy when there is a family with more than two kids and the siblings turn out so different.

3. What would you recommend to someone wanting to read a book about an interesting sibling relationship? The Hobbit, some of the Narnia books. I never read the Wrinkle in Time books as a teen, so I'm enjoying them now. Pride and Prejudice is another classic.

JessicaMHR | 311 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
I read The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett which I got off the listopia. It has gotten so much press/hype I really was expecting more from it, which might be why I didn't like it as much as I thought I might.

2. Do you typically enjoy books about siblings?
I don't really look for a book based on that. But, I'm assuming I have read some before.

3. What would you recommend to someone wanting to read a book about an interesting sibling relationship?
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah is well written and the sibling relationship is more believable than what you typically might find.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 3583 comments Many of my siblings books also fit other categories.

These are my possibilites:
Atonement - done
The Night Tiger done
Home by Marilynne Robinson, currently reading
When We Believed in Mermaids
maybe
Girl A
Far from the Tree

I highly recommend
Silver Sparrow
The Lager Queen of Minnesota

Joanne | 477 comments For this prompt I picked one that was very obviously about siblings from the description: Me & Emma by Elizabeth Flock about sisters growing up in an abusive household. Unfortunately I saw the "twist" coming extremely early in the book and it took away a lot of the enjoyment for me.
Me & Emma by Elizabeth Flock

message 58: by Donna (new)

Donna | 168 comments I read Boy Swallows Universe, and I recommend it. What a great book!

message 59: by Leah (new)

Leah Still | 69 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?

I read And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini. I loved this book. It has one central sibling story, but also a few quasi-sibling relationships. It would also be a good book for the ensemble cast prompt.

2. Do you typically enjoy books about siblings?

I like books about family relationships, not necessarily siblings.

3. What would you recommend to someone wanting to read a book about an interesting sibling relationship?

We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves. Also: The Mill on the Floss; I Capture the Castle; Silver Sparrow; Sisterland.

message 60: by Jill (new)

Jill (dogbotsmum) | 1356 comments What are you reading for this category?

Do you typically enjoy books about siblings?
I don't particularly seek them out.

On Dublin Street

2. Do you typically enjoy books about siblings?
I don't seek them out but I don't avoide them either.

3. What would you recommend to someone wanting to read a book about an interesting sibling relationship?
My Sister, the Serial Killer is about a very interesting sibling relationship.

message 62: by Severina (new)

Severina | 395 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
I read The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

2. Do you typically enjoy books about siblings?
No, I don't.

3. What would you recommend to someone wanting to read a book about an interesting sibling relationship?
I would definitely recommend We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. It's interesting, fantastically written, and thought-provoking.

message 63: by Marie (new)

Marie | 1064 comments I read Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak.

I like books where the relationships aren't romantic, so siblings are on my preferred list.

For recommendations, I love Rob Thurman's Leandros brothers series, starting with Nightlife, loads of standalones: We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, When God Was a Rabbit, My Sister's Keeper, The Last Child, My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece, and for non-fiction Extra Virgin made me want to drag my sister to live in Italy!

message 64: by Aimee (last edited Jun 04, 2021 11:14AM) (new)

Aimee (pebbles320) I read The Dutch House by Ann Patchett and it was okay. The story kept me guessing, but it took me a while to warm to the narrator as he was pretty bland (I think maybe intentionally, but I just wasn't expecting it).

The story is about a brother and sister who grow up in an unusual house and there's lots of family drama, involving step-parents and family estrangement. It might appeal to someone who likes slow-paced, 20th century historical fiction.

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments 1. What are you reading for this category? My Sister's Keeper
2. Do you typically enjoy books about siblings? I would say half of the books I read probably have a strong sibling character in them.
3. What would you recommend to someone wanting to read a book about an interesting sibling relationship?
Pride and Prejudice

message 66: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Peterson | 700 comments 1. What are you reading for this category?
Like many, I took this opportunity to read The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett.

2. Do you typically enjoy books about siblings?
Interesting question! I wouldn't say that I seek them out, especially as an adult. I do seek out books about strong friendships and sometimes those friendships are between siblings. I definitely prefer strong sibling relationships to contentious ones.

3. What would you recommend to someone wanting to read a book about an interesting sibling relationship?
So many of my beloved middle grade books are about siblings - it hadn't really occurred to me before how prevalent that is in children's books (though it makes sense!) This prompt kind of made me want to reread books like From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler or Half Magic or The Boxcar Children or Dancing Shoes or Striped Ice Cream. For adult books, though, I'd have to recommend My Sister, the Serial Killer (which I think works much better if you go into it thinking of it as a family drama rather than the thriller that it's been advertised as) or The Blind Assassin which is also about an interesting and intense sister relationship.

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) I used a nostalgic childhood reread for this prompt, Five Little Peppers and How They Grew.

A lot of books I read focus on romantic relationships, but I do love a good sibling relationship story, whether it's in the background or foreground of the story, and especially if it involves an awesome big brother taking care of younger siblings.

Recommendations:
(middle grade)
The Two Princesses of Bamarre
Laddie: A True Blue Story
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

(young adult)
The Journey
The Mermaid's Sister
The City Beyond the Glass
Molly and Anna
The Thirteenth Princess

(adult fiction)
The Thirteenth Tale
Clouds of Witness
Wives and Daughters

The Two Princesses of Bamarre! I loved that book as a kid and it's perfect for this prompt. It's surprisingly dark and emotionally nuanced for a children's book.

Pearl | 500 comments I read The Vanishing Half and Dutch House

I recommend both of these books.

I did read The Sweeney Sisters. Loved it.

message 72: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Paige (shpaige19) | 71 comments For this one, I read The Ones We're Meant to Find

I really enjoyed it, and I was surprised how many prompts from the 2021 list it could fit under (siblings, future, made-up place, new BIPOC author, cross-genre, and plenty of others). I only used it for the one prompt, but if others are still looking for a book to fit this prompt or any others, it's worth checking out!

message 73: by Tiffany (last edited Aug 19, 2021 11:00AM) (new)

Tiffany Anderson (miss5elements) | 331 comments I read Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese.

I do like reading novels that are focused on siblings; they let me see how other siblings relate.

I would recommend:
Homegoing
The Color Purple
Children of Blood and Bone
Little Fires Everywhere
My Sister, the Serial Killer
The God of Small Things
A Wrinkle in Time
The Vanishing Half

The Lager Queen of Minnesota
The Nightingale
The Lost Man
Cutting for Stone
Silver Sparrow
We are Completely Beside Ourselves
Sense and Sensibility

Elizabeth (elizabeth1234561) | 224 comments 1. The Austere Academy by Lemony Snicket
2. Not usually, or I don't specifically read books about siblings. A lot of the books I read (usually contemporaries) feature siblings with the main focus on one versus the other.

Jenni (jennyftb) | 38 comments What are you reading for this category?
I read The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. The book tells the story of brother and sister Danny and Maeve Conroy. I listened to the audiobook version, narrated by Tom Hanks, which was fabulous.

Do you typically enjoy books about siblings?
I do enjoy reading books about siblings. The first one I can recall reading was the very twisted Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews.

What would you recommend to someone wanting to read a book about an interesting sibling relationship?
Searching for Sylvie Lee by Jean Kwok
