November 15 is National Clean Out Your Fridge Day. In honor of that, you’re going to clean off your To Be Read Pile. Read a book that you’ve been meaning to read for a while, but have been putting off.

Let me know what you’re reading and when you’ve finished.

Good luck!

Carolyn | 181 comments I shouldn't have any problem finding options to fit that. The problem will be narrowing it down!

I have a similar problem. I had someone pick a number between one and the number of books on my list. Now I have a book to read.

message 4: by Deborah (new)

Deborah | 184 comments After asking my mother to pick a number between 1 and 249 (the number of books on my To Read list...I really do need to "clean out" my to read list.) I will be reading book 172 on the list. The Book Thief byMarkus Zusak. I will let you know when I finish it.

I have soooooooo many books that would fit this challenge.

It really should be The Sand Pebbles by Richard McKenna but I'm likely to finish this one today.

Lisa | 57 comments I decided I am going to read Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink
I've never read this book and it is the book that's been on my bookcase the longest. I am 33 years old and I never read it . I've had the book since I was in elementary school. I guess its time I read the book. my mom said it was one of her favorite books when she was a little girl.

I think I was in high school when I read it and I loved it. One of my friends' little sister told me about it!

message 11: by Lisa (new)

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I checked. my Goodreads to read shelf alone is over 2500 books....plus books I have pinned, in pictures on my phone, or unread on my actual bookshelves. *facepalm*

I decided this year that I have to deliberately keep my Goodreads to-read shelf below 6000! Haha!

message 15: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (bethsmash) | 1224 comments Mod
I stopped using the To-Read on Goodreads, because I realized it would dwarf everything.

message 16: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 181 comments After eliminating some of the extra long ones I want to read (like "Team of Rivals", :"Three Musketeers", etc.,) and some of the most recent additions to my TBR, right now my pick is The Body: A Guide for Occupants. I started it once and intended to go back to it at some point. It has been on my brain lately because of a mention on a podcast I follow.

Plenty more where that came from, though, if I decide to use something else for my challenge book.

message 17: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 255 comments My TBR is 1200+. I'm reading Blanche on the Lam. The series has been on my list for about 2 years.

This is such a perfect reading challenge and ohmygoodness I have so many books that I bought over the library closure that have added to a physical TBR list..... but I think I can make this happen! I've been wanting to catch up on the comic series The Woods and have collected most of the available volumes thanks to the library... so that might be this weekend's project!

I am awed by the lists you guys make. When mine started to get unwieldy, I abandoned it. I'm proud of you Audrey for getting it under a thousand! And Teresa, for having one 1200+, that's amazing.

As much as I want you guys to finish your lists, I really hope you keep finding interesting things to add to it. ♥

message 21: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments Marcia wrote: "Finished!"

I'm sticking my tongue out at you. (Said in teasing.) I just wanted you to know that. Grinnnnnnn!

Actually I suddenly don't want to read at all at all at all. I think its the stress of all the politics and the election and COVID now running rampant and virtually unchecked. But maybe I'll get back in the swing before the month is over. On the other hand, I could switch to one of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. I've had a couple in my book case for a long time that I haven't read and they are a quick read.

message 22: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 57 comments I finished the book I choose for this challenge I choose to read caddie Woodlawn . and it was a really good book.

message 23: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (danielleprime) I like the idea of this challenge! Thank you!! Like everyone, my TBR list is absolutely enormous. I checked out How Not to Die Alone and renewed it once already and have not yet opened the book. So, that will be my pick. Challenge accepted! 😉

message 24: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 255 comments I finished my book. The murder occurred over halfway through the book, which was unusual, in my experience. It's good world building for the rest of the series, though. I liked reading from a different point of view, as Blanche is a black woman from the south who is proud of her housecleaner job. The ending was very satisfying. The book won a handful of awards the year it was published.

message 25: by Becky (new)

Becky | 280 comments So far I've read The Witch Elm, Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone, and When We Were the Kennedys: A Memoir from Mexico, Maine. I also am having a hard time sitting and reading right now, so I have really increased in my audiobook listening. I have a somewhat lengthy commute (40 min) and can get in a lot of listening, especially at 1.5x speed.

message 26: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 181 comments I went a different direction than I originally said. Salt to the Sea was on my radar but much more recently "officially" added to my TBR list. Finished it Saturday. Worth a try but save for when you are okay reading something sad. I still plan to finish my original pick some time as it is interesting and something I still want to read.

message 27: by Linda (new)

Linda Nielson | 279 comments I read Power of the Matchmaker. It is the prequel to the series and so was a short quick read. I will hopefully get something else before the end of the month.

Wow, you guys are doing great.

Becky, I loved doing audiobooks when I had a commute. Luckily, now I have a short commute, which means I don't listen to a ton of audio, but it is nice when I can get it in.

Carolyn, sometimes you just want to read something sad. One time I went to B&N (pre-COVID) and they had an Angsty teen book display. I thought it was great, but you do definitely have to be in the mood.

I used to have a similar daily commute and was speeding through books too. Audiobooks are the best for that!! ❤️📚

Great job Stephanie! I'd love to say that I've made good progress on my challenge read, but I have not. I need to get going on that!

Awesome Debbie!! ❤️📚

I’m pleased to say I hunkered down and finished How Not to Die Alone today!!

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I've been going through old series and catching up. So I've read Off the Grid, Nothing Stays Buried, The Guilty Dead, and The Sixth Idea (all by PJ Tracy) to catch up with the MonkeeWrench gang.
(The 10th book is Ice Cold Heart and I think I'm about halfway through)

Carolyn | 181 comments Bonus read for me. I had Grumpy Monkey Up All Night on my TBR and finally got around to getting to reading it. Worth checking out if you like "Grumpy Monkey", but I prefer the plots of the first two a bit better.

Nice! I’ve wanted to go back and read series I enjoyed when I was younger, but worry they’ll lose their magic.

I just finished watching the Netflix adaptation of that book. I actually liked it more than the book, which is rare. 😉❤️📚

Greg (danceyeah) | 289 comments I've been playing catch-up with my backlog list all month, so this was a great challenge for me. One of the books I read was Teachings of Presidents of the Church - Joseph F. Smith.

9/9 challenges complete for the year, so far. Bring on December!
