Howdy!

Thanks Flinty. I am not being falsely humble, for me it does really look shit (I am usually borderline obsessive about aligning everything when I make scientific figures), but that's in keeping with the look here, eh? (When you said 'Ca mange pas de pain' I thought 'de campagne'😉.)

Great to see you :)

Howdy!"

Ah, needless to say, nothing else will work ;-)

Hey Rascal, long time no see - the geek factor of this page has just increased substantially!..."
Thanks everyone for the welcome messages, it looks like I really have some catching up to do. Shame about the Grauniad page, I never quite managed to get comfortable with the Goodreads interface and the mobile app is horrendous.

I have just found out on an article about books about books that the 'What are you reading?' feature was cancelled. Why? I used to be active on the BBC message boards for The Archers and they took away all those options, too. Such a nice community feeling and I met a lot of members in real life - got some work off the daughter of one of them just two months ago.
And now this blow. On top of this bloody virus and Brexit. It's another thing to make me spit feathers.
I think I am nina_glyndwr here. I was nina1414. Nina_glyndwr is what I call my 'Internet name', so I can keep private things and business things apart.

Hi Nina! So glad to see you. Yes, the eradication of participant-friendly community-ish sites that people really value is a sad comment on what the powers-that-be consider unimportant. But with luck we can make something positive of this substitute for the Guardian TL&S.

Shwmai, Nina?
Your nom-de-plume made me think that you must have a connection to Machynlleth (whose spelling I 'kindly' corrected in a Guardian comment thread yesterday)... but Dusseldorf? What do I know!
Croeso, anyway...

Nina = a childhood name when the boy next door couldn't say my actual first name.
Glyndwr = the last Welsh rebel against the English. My parents struggled with me as a teenager because they saw me as rebellious. They even bought me the perfume called 'Rebel' (advertised on TV with the David Bowie song).

Mae'n ddiddorol i fyw mewn gwlad wahanol, ond ydy hi? Bum yn byw yn Ffrainc o 1981-86. Mae fy ngwraig yn Ffrangeg.
(Lest anyone think we are up to some dirty deeds with our comments in Welsh, this translates as: "It's interesting to live abroad, isn't it? I lived in France between 1981-86, and my wife is French.)

So good to be able to get together again and discuss the things that really matter i.e. books.

Cod or haddock?

Hi BB - in case you find this before you find the books: we have three active* main folders on the group page, with separate threads in them:
- one with general questions about the Ersatz TLS group itself (and this Who's who directory is one of the threads in it),
- one on Special Topics where you've found in particular the cats,
- and the last folder is 'Weekly TLS', which opens each Monday morning with a recap from interwar/Justine, the way Sam was doing it, but with her own twist to it! The previous TLS thread then gets closed (locked with that little symbol next to it: you can still read it, just not comment anymore). That's where you'll find most of the books.
*There is also a folder with the closed Special Topics.

Hi Bridget. Delighted that you made it across the choppy waters between TLS and GR. As Glad says, most book discussion is to be found in the WeeklyTL&S folder. We look forward to your own literary comments.

Haddock please (not smoked), lots of salt on the chips but hold the vinegar.

Haddock, chips, salt, no vinegar. Mushy peas, in a separare pot in case you don't like them, and a cold bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.

That's the kind of man I like ... the kind who knows to put peas (I don't like mushy ones) in a separate pot. I'll bring the rug.

Of course! Rock salmon, smoked salmon, Scottish salmon, English salmon, Delia's red salmon fishcakes, we've got it all.
Although, I actually prefer sea trout myself.

Good idea! There are still a few people I'm not sure about, and there will be late arrivals.

Ha, I started my own word document with everyone's old and new names!
And just trying the add emoji on my laptop.😀

Wow! Impressive!

Thanks for joining us, Storm! Looking forward to your contributions to our chat. GR's 'nightmares' probably affect me less, because I was pretty rubbish at doing anything beyond the very basics at the Guardian, either. Thank goodness we have the competent, resourceful and ever-willing Ms Jones at the helm!

Are we supposed to introduce ourselves? I joined the group here a few days ago but haven't posted anything yet. I was BMacLean or BMcLean on the Guardian TLS, can't remember how I spelled it there. Nice to see everyone again, I've enjoyed browsing through the posts the last couple days.

Great work, Glad. That's extremely useful; maybe it's just me but I was already starting to lose track of Who's Who...
