Brilliant, thanks a lot Adina. How could I miss the other tabs past 'Settings' (well, I dismissed them as not being relevant, obviously they were!)?

A word of warning too for others who'd like to keep the level of data collected by EOE as low as possible: when you Sign out, it does not always work... worth double-checking when you do (I've found that following the link to re- Sign in - without doing so of course - seems to enforce the Sign out).

Paul | 1 comments Hi everybody! (said in my finest Dr. Nick impression),

One positive of the dry-docking of the TL&S page is to get slightly more in touch with each other. As in names and pictures, it's nice. More social, particularly at this time when I need everyone to stay as far away from me as possible due to contagion and lack of sleep

How do you ask to befriend someone and do you have to have a reply through your email, because I have switched of most email notification settings.

Click on the person's name, which brings up their profile. There, you can click on 'friend' or' follow'. The latter happens automatically; in the former case, it depends on whether that person accepts your request. Also, it looks as though some people don't allow followers, which is of course their prerogative.

Do you mean this?

The Kappillan of Malta by Nicholas Monsarrat

You may have encountered yet another GR quirk: search doesn't handle misspellings very well.

Beverly (inhalelit) | 3 comments Thank you. Goodreads isn’t at all bad if you use it for recording your reads, TBR, owned library, and reading reviews of selected friends, several of whom are on NTB threads. The platform is antiquated though, but it’s what we have. I have discovered oodles of new authors and works in translation on Goodreads.

You can only post avatars up to a certain size, could that have been the problem?

Two methods of uploading photos used; neither works.

1. Go to Account settings; click 'choose file' under the little figure which is to be replaced with an avatar; click 'Photos' on Apple laptop - but no photos appear.

Second method was not for an avatar, but to show a photo in the 'pets' thread:

2. Go to photos and select one; copy; go to comment box; paste. Nothing!

I'm sorry if I'm stating the obvious but only photos downloaded and saved to your laptop will upload as a chosen file ... so if there's a photo you'd like to use as an avatar save it to your pictures on your laptop, and then you should be able to choose it as a file and upload it. If this is like saying "today is Hallowe'en" forget I spoke. I'm sure it doesn't strengthen my case that I am sitting here dressed as a polar bear after a Zoom call with my nieces. Happy Hallowe'en though...

Would pay good money to see that!! Happy Hallowe'en too Reen.

Sorry I had missed your post: yes, exactly what Reen says. You can only upload something that is already physically (the file itself .jpg, .png, or else) on your laptop.

If you have it somewhere else (say on flickr/instagram/FB/etc.), download it first on your Apple laptop, and then you'll be able to see it when you want to change your avatar.

Just let me know if you still struggle!

I have an Apple, with a 'Photos' file... all my Photos are on that (I took them myself), but it won't link with the GR system for some reason.

message 96: by Hushpuppy (new)

Hushpuppy scarletnoir wrote: "I have an Apple, with a 'Photos' file... all my Photos are on that (I took them myself), but it won't link with the GR system for some reason."

Hmmm. Ok, so you go to your Profile, ask to Edit it, Browse for an image for your profile. When you press the button 'Browse' this then prompts the file directory of 'Photos' on your laptop? So far, is this right?

And in that Photos directory, you have files of all your pics, but here it seems empty? Still right?

message 97: by Hushpuppy (new)

Hushpuppy Reen wrote: "What's it worth to you?"

Aha, I think I'll be a bit haunted by that image for the rest of the day! What's your chapka made of? Something the polar bear would have happily eaten itself?

message 98: by Hushpuppy (new)

Hushpuppy Machenbach wrote: "Maybe check the image size too."

Yeah, but scarlet should still be able to see his picture files I would think (if I've understood correctly, he cannot see his usual photos)...

I've just checked and my large files can be seen at least, and it doesn't matter what the format is either (it's set to 'All Files' by default). What you describe would be a subsequent problem: if scarlet had picked a photo, but it would not upload.

Anyway, let's see!
