The book is a spy thriller revolving around a British army / MI6 operative (I forget which) infiltrates the IRA, searching for a target who is wanted for some murder / blasts.

The book ends in a very interesting way where both of them die in a climax showdown.

I'd read the book some 20 years back, and have been searching for the book since a couple of years now. I have forgotten the book title, author, and other plot details in addition to what I've typed above.

I'm not aware of the time period, but the location would be in Ireland, as the protagonist infiltrates undercover deep into IRA.
