80's/90's YA Reading Challenge
I haven't been getting the notifications for this thread, stupid GR! Anyway, I'm about 2/3 of the way through and it's such a hot mess, pardon the pun. Only about 50 pages to go so I'll finish it just out of curiosity. It's a good thing you skipped it Tyler, there are lots of fire references.
I just finished both Goodnight Kiss and Slumber Party.I liked both. Goodnight Kiss was kind of a surprise because (if I'm remembering correctly) most Fear Street books don't have a supernatural element. So I enjoyed that. I liked the twist at the end.
As for Slumber Party, I have a lot of nostalgia for this one, as it was one of the first Point horrors I read. I'll admit that these people are all atrocious Haha but I still liked it.
I've read 8 chapters of Trick or Treat so far and i'm enjoying it and trying to figure out what's what.
I finished Trick or Treat and I really enjoyed it. Creepy fun mystery and I enjoyed the characters. Didn't see the end coming. I gave it 4 stars.
Latasha wrote: "Started Trick or Treat tonight. The house sounds great so far! Martha.. I’m not so sure about."I wasn't sure about her at first either but she grew on me.
Picking Trick or Treat back up. I’m on chapter 15. It would exhaust me to be around Martha. I still don’t like her. She needs to chill TF out.
I had a really good time with Trick or Treat. I thought Martha and the stepbrother were both a little annoying, but I think that spreading the annoyance around made it bother me less. I liked the descriptions of the house. It had some pretty good foreshadowing, too.
Quick question: I'm behind and reading Goodnight Kiss, but the book is in with Goodnight Kiss 2. Can I still count as reading it or should I put it up as just the one book for now?
I just finished Trick or Treat. I really liked this one! The house was creepy and Martha grew on me after a while. It was great for Halloween month!
Latasha wrote: "If your only reading the first one right now Kellie, I’d just count it as that one."Ok thanks Latasha!
I've started The Ripper. I've only read 2 chapters so far. I'm focused on another read that's really personal to me and emotional, a nonfiction book about a disability I was born with, and I needed something lighter. So I might be slow reading it but i've started.
I read 5 chapters. I DNF'd. So bored, confused, so many pov's, didn't like the writing and I don't care about any of the characters. I'm sorry but the end of that 5th chapter, still not caring about any of it, it was time for me to just give up.
Finished The Ripper. Terrible characters. Could’ve been a decent story if they were better. There was too many and I really didn’t care what happened to them.

Just finished The Ripper. Ugh, not my favorite. It could have been so much better but it felt like there were two many characters (and they were all awful) and the plot felt convoluted.
Sorry y'all didn't like it either. I have borrowed Gallows Hill from Hoopla so i'll be starting that next.
I have now read 15 chapters of Gallows Hill and i'm really enjoying this! There are some characters to hate but you're not supposed to like them (where as in The Ripper it seemed like I was supposed to like them when I really did not) and I like the main character and another character, Charlie. It involves fortune telling (both fake and unexpectedly real) and a relation to the Salem witch trials.
Latasha wrote: "It’s ok Kellie. As long as your having fun, that’s all that matters."Thanks Latasha I am!!
Any word on if we're continuing this group in the new year? I'd like to keep going with it if everyone else is still interested.
I’ve been reading Gallow’s Hill and I like it so far. The characters feel a little more real and not just bitchy teens.
Jen wrote: "Any word on if we're continuing this group in the new year? I'd like to keep going with it if everyone else is still interested."I still have loads of unread YA horror, so I would keep going if anyone else was.
I am going to start Gallows Hill tomorrow. I'm hoping it will be the first Lois Duncan book that I start and actually finish. I have not been good at picking her books.

Mindy is an impressively bad character. Half her personality is that she chews gum all the time. Even after going back and rereading that scene, I am still not sure that I believe that she really spit her gum onto the snow on the ground and then put it back into her mouth.
(view spoiler)[I also had completely forgotten that she was still in the house and needed to be rescued. (hide spoiler)]
Cal is probably the worst part of the book, though. (view spoiler)[I hate that he got to be a hero at the end with Dana and Mindy fighting over him. Dana was easily the best character and deserved better. (hide spoiler)]
