80's/90's YA Reading Challenge
My husband just passed away Feb 16th, around 9:30pm. He went into the hospital valentine's day. He's been sick a long time but stubborn, lack of health care etc. and no one thought it was that bad, but he had cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma) in his early 20s. He was 41, so the tests aren't back but they think the cancer came back.I'm not ok. I have the books now for March-June, The Body, The Wrong Girl, Final Exam and The Midnight Club, but no idea if i'll be able to read them or at all. I'm not in a good place right now. My family is helping me. I'm sorry everyone. If I can i'll read them but I know you all will understand if I can't.

My prayers are with you. xoxo
I can't even begin to understand what you're going through Tyler, I know he was such a rock and joy for you. Please look after yourself, our thoughts are with you xxx
Thank you all. There's still a lot to figure out, my mom is helping me (and staying with me) right now. She says i'm doing a lot better than I think I am, and I know that's true but it still hurts so much. He was only 41, I just turned 32 this month, our 7 year marriage anniversary is the 27th. When I saw him in the hospital (he went the 14th, finally, and passed 2 days later) he was hooked up to so much stuff, and was sedated. It's said they can still hear though, and while I was there is looked like he was trying to fight, vitals wise, but it was way too late. I know he was trying. No one realized how serious it was. In the last couple weeks he physically aged decades, he was sick for awhile but went downhill quick.
And death really does seem to bring out the best and worst in people. Glad for the positive, but i've definitely seen the worst lately too but i'm scared to go into it. It's a good thing I have my mom.
He was a wonderful man. I've never cried so much even though i've lost loved ones before and cried.
I was so excited to share our new home with my grandmother, she died Jan 17th (covid) and of course him...and now it's just mine. I'm sorry (I know I shouldn't be sorry but I am).
I'm not really sure how, but i'm still here. So i'll do the best I can. But i'll definitely make sure taking care of myself is the priority.

I'm really sorry that I haven't felt much like reading the challenge books. (and I really like the theme this group is based on, but I can't focus on them!) I was diagnosed with ADHD which might explain partly why I find it so hard to focus, executive dysfunction, and all that. The autistic and ADHD sides of my brain are fighting with each other. lol
What have been your go-to books to help you get back into reading? (I'm not sure this can be called a slump, but it has the same feeling as a slump.)
Hugs and lots of love for everyone!
when i feel like i'm in a slump, i read a Ronald Kelly book. So i'd say pick one of your favorite authors that has never let you down. Read one of their books. Hugs!!
I've never heard about Ronald Kelly before. What book of his do you most recommend? Right now I am reading Paperbacks from Hell (haha a book about books) and I managed to finish a book I started ages ago The Trials of Morrigan Crow
Grady is great! I need to read more of his books! I bought Fear on Kindle for $2.99
Thanks for the recommendation!

your welcome.
Sorry to hear that Leigha. I 2nd anything by Grady Hendrix. I've only recently discovered him but he quickly became one of my favorites.
I've sent a copy to Mel, so will wait til later in the month when hers arrives before I start this. It's my birthday month, I hit level 50 last week!!!! Yay! So excited, every day above ground is a good one.
I'll start The Body next. I really haven't been in a reading mood in the last few months and I've found myself not checking GR as much as I use to. : ( i have no idea what's wrong with me.
I feel ya Tosh. I've been mostly watching CSI/Sherlock reruns and doing some slow stitching. I'll be starting this in the next few days. Mel sent me The Midnight Club and Slumber Party so I've only got Goodnight Kiss and Gallows Hill left to find :)
Except for it missing a body, I really enjoyed reading this month's book. I think it probably helped that I had read Jane Eyre a little over a year ago. (view spoiler)
Page 117- Melanie just can NOT keep her mouth shut huh? I hope her friends don’t trust her with any secrets. Jeez! Take a hint girl!
Well I finished The Body. I figured it out well before motor mouth Melanie. I’m not sure how I felt about the ending. (view spoiler)
I've started reading The Body. I figure i'll try to read a bit everyday, of The Body and Semiosis (the monthly group read for March for "creatures, creatures everywhere!") so I can get them done. I know trying to do too much right now won't work but I think if I set a page goal per day it'll be a good thing for me. I shall see.I'm 3 chapters into The Body and I don't know what to think yet...
Right, I'm finally starting this today, it's been a bit of an intense week. How is everyone doing? Been thinking about you lots Tyler, is your Mum still staying with you?
Yes, she's still with me right now. I'm...taking stuff day by day I guess. I feel bad I can't do more and feel like I should be able to but i'm sure that's my brain being a butthead and at least i'm still here. I've been playing Sims 2 again. It's been years and I missed it. Also listening to music.
I just finished!! I enjoyed the book a lot but that Melanie!!! Tosh, got the motormouth right on the head! I want to smack some sense into her 🙄
My copy was lost by the post office. It's been found and is on it's way to me. LOL I hope to get started soon.

Well I just ordered "Hit and Run" and "The Ripper" from Amazon. I got "Goodnight Kiss" via kindle (that includes Goodnight Kiss #2 and The Vampire Club). I ordered "Slumber Party" and "Trick or Treat" via thriftbooks. And Gallows Hill is on kindle unlimited. So that'd be the rest of the year worked out once those 4 books arrive.
Awesome, Tyler!! I think I have them all and one will be from library if I’m not mistaken. No, I think there is one I don’t have 🤔
Yeah, it’s Goodnight Kiss. I was hoping my used bookstore would get it but they haven’t. I’m not paying to buy them any other way when I ended up finding some for a few cents at my used bookstore. So, I’ll probably sit that one out. 🤷🏻♀️
I really liked this one. I was pretty sure what was going on but it was still a good read. Good point about the brother, I hadn't thought of that actually.
