Static character: does not change during the story, stays the same
Dynamic character: partakes in an internal change, change through the story
Character foils: a character who contrasts with another character. Important because they help the reader recognize qualities of various characters, and why they do what they do
Main idea: the idea of being good, or how the characters feel the need to portray themselves for god

Parris throws shade towards Abigail by accusing her of using witchcraft against Betty.
“Abigail, I have fought here three long years to bend those stiff-necked people to me, and now, just now when some good respect is rising for me in the parish, you compromise my very character.”
Parris feels abigail messed with his reputation
Mercy read marry warren, mary wanted to confess to parris of the witchcraft they did, and that if they didn't, and someone found out they would be hanged.
“Mercy, pointing and looking at Mary warren: she means to tell I know it.
Mary warren: abby, we've got to tell. Witchery’s a hangin’ error, a hangin’ like they done in boston two year ago! We must tell the truth abby!”

The drawbacks of this text is racial inequality, women are inferior. If you were not religious you were seen as an outcast to society.
