Whilst I'm happy that Delirium has won the WIT group read for December and have ordered myself a used copy I still plan on reading Breasts and Eggs if anyone wants to join me? Probably early in the new year to fit in with our feminist quarterly:)
Hannah wrote: "Whilst I'm happy that Delirium has won the WIT group read for December and have ordered myself a used copy I still plan on reading Breasts and Eggs if anyone wants to ..."I think I have Breasts and Eggs on hold at the library, they do this awesome thing where I can put it off but keep my place, so I'd love to read it with you next year
Great! Let me know when it would be a good time for you to start, I have my own copy so I can work around you. Hopefully some others might join us if we wait a little while
Hannah wrote: "Great! Let me know when it would be a good time for you to start, I have my own copy so I can work around you. Hopefully some others might join us if we wait a little while"I'm good with January or February, Hannah, because I will be reading as much as possible to try and finish my 2020 reading challenge. I agree that if anyone else decides to read with us we can take their timeline input into consideration.
Our first buddy read ever will be Breasts and Eggs. Come join those discussing it at this thread.https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
alignment on the start date to occur on the discussion thread.
I want to read Louise Erdrich and other Indigenous female authors, mostly Native Americans, so if I can´t put my suggestions into group read nominations here or in other groups, I´d be interested in those.
I have read quite a lot of Louise Erdrich. She is great. I would highly recommend the trilogy The Plague of Doves, The Round House, and LaRose. They are written in that order, but I actually read them in reverse and it didn't matter. There are continuous characters but not a continuous plot line. I also really enjoyed Love Medicine and Future Home of the Living God. This is a bit different for her as it is science fiction/dystopian. I have also read Tales of Burning Love. I think Love Medicine and TOBL are part of a 5-book series, but again, it is the characters that carry over, not the plot. I think any one of her books would be a great buddy read!
Linda Hogan is great. I really loved People of the Whale. And if you're interested in poetry, I recommend the poems of Joy Harjo.
I recommend Klee Wyck by Emily Carr and Birdie by Tracey Lindberg and The Break by Katherena Vermette.
If anyone is up for a buddy read of A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Xiaolu Guo some time between mid-May and the end of July, let me know.
I've read a few of Xiaolu Guo's other books, I particularly liked Village of Stone and Twenty Fragments of a Ravenous Youth
Hey guys, anyone want to join my bookstagram buddy read of Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Blind Assassin’ ? If so I will add you too the chat on instagram!
Is anyone interested in reading, Beasts of a Little Land, Juhea Kim's debut novel as a buddy read? 416 pages. Released by Ecco tomorrow. Here's the beginning of the Publishers Weekly blurb:
Kim’s dreamy, intense debut is both a sure-footed historical account of the Korean struggle for independence from Japan and the emotionally fraught story of several people whose lives are inextricably tied together. ..
I'm probably looking at February or March, but I don't plan my reading year, so if you want to read it later, just name the relative time.
Hi Carol, I will read this with you in February, March or any other time (except January when we will be reading Maryse Conde). It looks really good!
Carol wrote: "Is anyone interested in reading, Beasts of a Little Land, Juhea Kim's debut novel as a buddy read? 416 pages. Released by Ecco tomorrow. Here's the beginning of ..."
This sounds like a great read! I'm #10 in my library queue for one copy that is still on order, so I'm guessing Feb. or March is likely for me too.

I have an arc of this from Edelweiss, so have to get through it before then, but look forward to comparing notes.
I’m so glad y’all are interested. Since the UK release is February, I’ll set up a thread and let’s circle up around Feb 1 and see what start date works for everyone who wants to read and discuss it. @alwynne, you’re my role model for ARC behavior. :)
Carol wrote: "I’m so glad y’all are interested. Still it looks as though we won't be reading it until February anyway
This is actually for January 2022, but I'll put it here: lethe and I plan to read and discuss Angela Carter's Angela Carter's Book of Fairy Tales. Would anyone care to join us?Carol, is it okay for me to start a new thread for this book? Or do you prefer to start it?

I´ve been wanting to read Sounds and Sweet Airs: The Forgotten Women of Classical Music by Anna Beer for quite a while, so if anyone´s interested in reading it with me - I know Liesl is! :) - please say so here. Please also suggest a month. I´m no great planner, but perhaps it would be best to read it in 2023, as at least December is a busy month for me and probably others too. Thanks! :)
Hi Michaela, I also have this book and would like to read it. If December’s too busy, how about sometime in the first part of the year, January-March?
I'm looking for a buddy to read Tender is the Flesh by Latinx-author Agustina Bazterrica. I've heard mixed reviews and looking forward to exchanging thoughts during the reading process. as I work 30 hrs/a week, and my working schedule changes every week, I have to be a bit flexible. I suggest November as a reading month, but also flexible to extend it to December! looking forward to getting in touch :) <3
Kate wrote: "Hi Michaela, I also have this book and would like to read it. If December’s too busy, how about sometime in the first part of the year, January-March?"Thanks, Kate for joining, and good idea! I´m open to any month, so if nobody proposes otherwise perhaps January?
Hey there, so I wanna read Babel, or the Necessity of Violence: an Arcane History of the Oxford Translators' Revolution and I could really use a buddy read with this one!! anyone up?
Michaela wrote: "Kate wrote: "Hi Michaela, I also have this book and would like to read it. If December’s too busy, how about sometime in the first part of the year, January-March?"Thanks, Kate for joining, and g..."
I'd love to join a buddy read for this. January would work well for me.
@Michaela, I'm glad to set up a thread for Sounds and Sweet Airs, if you like, with an anticipated January start. You can set it up on your own timing, as well - it's your call.
Thanks Carol, that would be fine. If it turns out too long for one month, we can extend it over January. Thanks Kate and Liesl for joining, and others are also welcome! :)
Alwynne proposes a buddy read of either Nada by Carmen Laforet (originally published in Spanish) or Medea by Christa Wolf (originally published in German). I’m on board with both. Is anyone else interested in reading and discussing either?
@alwynne, in terms of timing, are you thinking March or sooner? I’m good with mid-Feb or mid-March, would like to offset our read from the scheduled group reads and not inadvertently deplete participation, but that’s just me. What do you think?
NEW: Kate’s in, for Nada.
All are welcome …
Yeah, the dates you suggest are fine. I will let you know when I get ny book, should be in about 2 weeks or so.
Let’s check in then around 15Feb and see if your copy has arrived, Kate, and lock in a start date. I’ll set up a thread. I’m also interested in Medea if we can read it in March or April. I’ve never read any Christa Wolf and it’s an ideal length :)

I'd be interested in Medea, and I am flexible on the start date.
Anita wrote: "Oh wow Nada is actually available at my library as well, so I may jump in on that one too"Yay!

Does mid- March work for you, tentatively?
I’d like to join in with Nada too. I’ve had it on my TBR list and will see if my library can get it.
Carol wrote: "Does mid- March work for you, tentatively?.."Sure does. If anyone else wants to join and has a preference I will happily defer on a timeframe.
Sophie wrote: "I’d like to join in with Nada too. I’ve had it on my TBR list and will see if my library can get it."Fantastic, Sophie.

@Anita - are you still interested in a buddy read of Medea? 208 pages. I'm sure I should re-read the source material first, but I probably won't. I'm thinking mid-March, maybe, and getting past March 1 group reads here and IRL, but later in the year is fine, too.
Carol wrote: "Anita wrote: "Carol wrote: "Let’s check in then around 15Feb and see if your copy has arrived, Kate, and lock in a start date. I’ll set up a thread. I’m also interested in Medea if we can read it..."
Yes, i will also probably be a neglectful reader and not read source material. Mid march sounds fine.

Here's our 2021 "Buddy Reads Nominations" thread!
Post the book you want to read here, and it's likely that there will be someone who will want to read it with you. This will be an ongoing thread of proposals, responses and agreements on timing. All it takes is two members to agree to read and discuss a book, and align on timing of when it starts, and we'll set up a thread for that discussion. Any member is free to join in a buddy read once it's launched.
