this short sci fi novel is about a physicist who lived on an arid planet where there is a sort of communist system. He makes a huge discover about how to travel fast in space but he have to go to a near consumistic planet to eleborate his theory. I read this book 3 years ago but it was published much earlier between 60's and 70's. the author is a woman.

This sounds very much like The Dispossessed, by Ursula K Le Guin. If it isn’t, you should read it anyway, a wonderful book.
