We get Peter McMahon’s point of view early on, detailing the events of the night of his sister’s abduction. Did you ever get the sense that he ever would have been connected to the murder of Rosemary Weber, which was one of the early theories? How important was his point of view to the story as a whole?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments I wondered at first, but this kid was so scared that I doubted he had anything to do with it. He just wanted to be left alone and and to stay anonymous. I loved having his story revealed throughout the book.

The more I got to know Peter, the less I believed he could be involved. He just didn’t have enough passion to focus on killing anyone. His point of view was critical because it was objective and gave us insight about what was going on at the time of the abduction through the present.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I had a theory through nearly 2/3 of the book that Rosemary's research assistant, Kip Todd, was the killer and that he was really Peter McMahon. But as we got more and more of Peter's story through the years, I hoped I was wrong. I felt really bad for Peter and he didn't seem like the type that would take out his grief/rage on the police who investigated. The people he blamed was his parents.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments You got half of it right!

I was thinking the same thing😏

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I thought Peter was involved for a minute or two, then switched to not knowing. For some reason, Kip didn't come to mind until closer to his reveal.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments Robin, I think my thought process was very much like yours.

Melissa (melissasd) | 676 comments I did suspect him at first, especially with Rosemary Weber being the 1st. She wrote the book that tainted his life. The more chapters I read from his point-of-view changed that because he never came across as holding a grudge. I think his chapters made the story a bit more interesting.
It never crossed my mind that Kip Todd may have been Peter. I was actually wondering if one of Lucy's classmates was him.
